The voice was youthful and melodious, like the sound of silver bells. It was clear and powerful, yet the person could not be seen.
Lingfeng found it strange and thought to himself that he had never heard of a child guarding an orchard. He looked around but saw no one, so he shouted, "Since you've caught me, do as you wish, but I fear you lack the courage!"
Suddenly, he heard a giggling sound, seemingly mocking him.
Lingfeng became somewhat angry and shouted in frustration, "Who are you? Are you afraid to show yourself because of my reputation? Hiding like this is not how someone from the Demon Suppression Sect behaves."
A gentle breeze swept by, carrying the scent of blooming flowers and spiritual energy.
Lingfeng was puzzled; it was a clear day, so why would a sudden breeze blow in?
Then he heard the voice say, "Of course, I am not one of your Demon Suppression Sect members, but I doubt any of them could match me!"
Lingfeng sneered but was not afraid; he retorted, "If you're so powerful, why don't you dare to show yourself? Are you just a turtle who talks big?" He then secretly used Follow the Wind Field to sense the other person's location. However, apart from some animals, there were no signs of any humans around.
After a moment of silence, the youthful voice spoke again, sounding somewhat dejected. "Although my powers are profound, I am restricted and cannot reveal myself." In an instant, the voice appeared behind Lingfeng. "I see that you possess righteous spiritual energy, which is why I am speaking with you."
Hearing this, Lingfeng relaxed his guard and asked, "Why do you want to talk to me?"
"Because I want to eat some celestial fruits and ask you to help me pick a few so I can taste them."
Lingfeng was even more puzzled. "That's easy enough, but if you don't show yourself, how can I give you the fruits?" He then picked two Dragon Fruits and held them in his hand.
The person hurriedly said, "Just throw the fruits far away, and I will get them!"
"Oh!" Lingfeng was baffled and chuckled. "Are you some kind of dog spirit? Why do you need someone else to throw things for you?" Without further ado, he tossed the two celestial fruits far away but still within his line of sight.
Waiting for the person to appear, Lingfeng suddenly saw a radiant light emerge from the location of the two Dragon Fruits, forming a halo of spiritual light that surrounded the fruits, much like the halo above his head. However, that spiritual light shone even brighter than the halo, and in an instant, the two celestial fruits had vanished.
Lingfeng couldn't help but click his tongue in admiration, thinking that this person's magical power was indeed impressive, capable of using a spell to retrieve items from afar, and he felt a sense of respect.
After a moment of silence, Lingfeng thought the person had left and muttered a few words, complaining about the lack of thanks. He then picked some Dragon Fruits for himself and was about to leave when he heard, "I was busy eating the fruit just now and didn't have time to thank you. Now, if you have any requests, feel free to ask."
Lingfeng initially wanted to mock him for being a reincarnated glutton but decided against it upon hearing his words. After thinking for a moment, he said, "If you really want to thank me, then teach me some spells!"
The person pondered for a moment and replied, "That's not difficult at all. What kind of spell do you want to learn?"
Lingfeng wasn't sure what to learn but recalled the mysterious person's earlier spell that retrieved items from afar. It was indeed a magical spell, so he said, "Just teach me that spell you used to take the Dragon Fruits!"
The person didn't respond immediately but started laughing lightly.
Lingfeng felt a bit annoyed and shouted, "If you're going to teach me, then teach! Why are you laughing?"
The person stopped laughing and explained, "That wasn't really a spell; I just released a halo to hide my body from your view." After a pause, he continued, "My nature is earth-based. If you want to learn spells, I can teach you the Earth Escape Technique!"
"Earth Escape Technique!" Lingfeng's eyes lit up. Although he had learned Earth Wind spells, he knew that Earth Wind was merely a basic earth manipulation spell. The ultimate spell was indeed the Earth Escape Technique. However, he had heard that in order to learn the Earth Escape Technique proficiently, one needed to master it thoroughly. Though Lingfeng had learned spells from Five Peaks, they were only half-baked; he never had the chance to learn the Earth Escape Technique. Hearing that it could be learned so easily made him very happy. He hurriedly asked, "Great! When do we start learning?"
The person replied, "We can start right now!"
Lingfeng shook his head, thinking that he still needed to pick some fruits for Monkey Head and others to eat and probably wouldn't have time now. He said, "I can't right now; I have things to take care of!"
But the person smiled and said, "It won't take much time. You just need to eat what I give you and memorize the earth escape incantation; then you'll reach an advanced level!"
Lingfeng was taken aback for a moment, suspecting that the person was trying to trick him into eating something so he would have control over him. He thought to himself, "What if that thing is poison or something? I won't fall for it!" So he refused and said, "My mom taught me not to eat things given by strangers!"
The person was taken aback for a moment, then burst into hearty laughter, producing a series of booming sounds, probably rolling with laughter. He mockingly said, "You are really something. Well then, if you don't believe me and don't want to learn, that's fine. However, once you miss this opportunity, there won't be another one. If you want to find me to learn Spell in the future, I'm afraid there won't be a chance!"
The person's intentions were sincere, and there was no malice in his words. Soon after, silence fell.
Lingfeng pondered for a while, unsure whether to trust him. After much consideration, he thought, "What am I afraid of? After all, Golden Peak is proficient in concocting antidotes and pills. Moreover, with the Sect Master being a divine healer, even if I were poisoned, they could help me detoxify! If he doesn't teach me Spell, I'll just suffer alone for a bit; I won't lose anything else!" With that thought, he softly called out, "Alright, I'll learn from you!"
"Have you thought it through? Are you not afraid I might harm you?" The person sounded lazy, as if he had just woken up from a nap.
Lingfeng nodded heavily, resembling a hero who was about to embark on a one-way journey.
"Alright! You take this!" With that, Lingfeng produced a Whisker. The Whisker was wrinkled and dirty, still covered in some soil, as if it were from the roots of some tree. However, it faintly contained some Spiritual Energy, clearly not a Common Item.
Lingfeng frowned and wiped off the dirt before placing the Whisker in his mouth and chewing it until it was crushed. Gradually, Lingfeng felt as if the crushed Whisker was releasing some sweet essence—delicious and tender with a delightful crunch that lingered on the palate.
After swallowing the Whisker, he felt warmth in his Dantian, and he could vaguely see a glimmer of spiritual light in that area. He couldn't help but feel overjoyed, thinking, "What is this thing? It has such an effect!"
"Don't ask questions now; I'll teach you the incantation shortly. Just remember it and then leave!" The person seemed somewhat fatigued.
Lingfeng didn't think much of it and assumed the person was just tired. He memorized the incantation taught to him. Then he practiced it; indeed, it felt as if he was walking freely on solid ground.
Afterward, Lingfeng climbed back up to the surface and brushed off the dust from his clothes. He clasped his fists toward a grove of fruit trees and said, "Thank you for your teachings, Senior. Lingfeng has no way to repay you, but I often come to this orchard. If you want to eat some fruit, just call out to Lingfeng!" This statement was easy for Lingfeng, as those celestial fruits weren't grown by him; he considered it borrowing flowers to offer Buddha.
However, the person did not respond. After waiting for a while without hearing any sound, Lingfeng thought that perhaps the person had already left.
Lingfeng chuckled and said, "What a strange person! Could it be that he has mastered some kind of rejuvenation technique? His voice sounds like that of a seven or eight-year-old child!" With that thought in mind, he turned back.
Upon returning to Water Peak, he arrived at the edge of Red Water Lake. Monkey Head, Enchanting, and Lili were anxiously waiting by the shore. When they saw Lingfeng return, Monkey Head laughed and said, "Was the orchard so hard to enter? You were gone for such a long time!"
Lingfeng shook his head and said, "It's not difficult, not difficult at all. I just encountered a mysterious expert while picking fruits and learned some spells from him!"
Everyone took this as a joke and didn't pay much attention. They watched as Lingfeng took out the fruits, shared some with everyone, and left a few for Monkey Head's family before they started eating.
The fruits from the Demon Suppression Sect were very precious; ordinary disciples rarely even had the chance to see them. Only during the grand celebration of the Demon Suppression Sect's anniversary could some disciples be fortunate enough to taste them.
As everyone picked up the Dragon Fruit, they couldn't help but marvel. The fruit shimmered with a green light and exuded a fragrant aroma. It felt smooth and flawless to the touch, resembling a jade pearl.
Lingfeng, Enchanting, and Lili all savored the fruit delicately without saying much, while Monkey Head took a big bite of the Dragon Fruit, chewing it laboriously. Juice flowed out as he nodded in praise, saying, "This is indeed an exquisite fruit! It feels cool in my mouth and warm in my stomach after swallowing. The juice is sweet and delicious; I don't even feel thirsty anymore!"
The others laughed heartily, and Lingfeng teased, "Fruits are fruits; naturally, they contain a lot of water. If you still feel thirsty after eating fruit, then I’m afraid the water from Red Water Lake wouldn’t be enough for you!"
Enchanting covered her mouth and chuckled lightly as she swallowed her piece of fruit. She advised, "Eat slowly; if you don't have enough and end up eating what was meant for your family, it wouldn't be good to leave only the pits for them!"
Everyone was laughing when they noticed Lili silently holding her fruit with a worried expression on her face.
Enchanting exchanged glances with Lingfeng, indicating that Lili already knew everything.
Lingfeng sighed, wanting to comfort her but thinking better of it. He felt he was not good with words; he could joke around with others but might offend someone if he tried to console them. He discreetly tugged at Enchanting's sleeve, and the two of them walked away together.
