The Hundred Venom Bees were nothing more than a bunch of dim-witted creatures, completely unaware that Lingfeng had such a trick up his sleeve. The leading Hundred Venom Bee saw Lingfeng make a sudden turn and slowed down to give chase. The other Hundred Venom Bees behind it did not expect the front one to come to an abrupt stop, resulting in a collision as one crashed into another, causing chaos among the swarm.
As Lingfeng reached the corner and was about to chant the Earth Escape Technique, he couldn't help but chuckle at the sight of the disarray among the Hundred Venom Bees. He then cast the Earth Control Technique, transforming it into a giant python.
The giant python was as thick as a barrel, its mouth wide open, roaring menacingly.
Lingfeng sneered and said, "You bunch of bullies relying on your numbers, today I’ll send you all to your doom!" With that, he pointed at the swarm of Hundred Venom Bees. The giant python, under Lingfeng's command, let out a roar like a black divine dragon and opened its massive mouth to swallow the Hundred Venom Bees.
The Hundred Venom Bees sensed danger and rushed towards it in a frenzy. However, the giant python was lifeless; no matter how much the Hundred Venom Bees bit it, it felt no pain and was immune to poison. Instead, several of the Hundred Venom Bees were swallowed whole by the giant python.
Lingfeng was thoroughly entertained watching the giant python devour so many Hundred Venom Bees. He quickly recited the incantation for retraction, and the giant python transformed back into a mound of dirt, with those that had been consumed buried beneath it, becoming specimens.
Although the giant python had swallowed many, there were still countless Hundred Venom Bees remaining alive. Lingfeng did not dare to linger and used the Earth Escape Technique to vanish from sight.
By now, Lingfeng had used the Earth Escape Technique multiple times that night, and his stamina was beginning to wane. After struggling underground for a while longer, he could no longer hold on and emerged above ground, only to find himself at the entrance of Bai Family Town. With nothing pursuing him from behind, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Having reached this point, Lingfeng dared not use True Qi again and decided to take one Mystic Liao Golden Pill given to him by his master. He then began to circulate his energy slowly and felt his strength recovering somewhat before setting off towards Wisteria Mountain.
Although Wisteria Mountain was winding and complex, Bear Brute's lair was even more hidden. Despite its vastness, Ziren was incredibly powerful; moreover, with so many Hundred Venom Bees from the White Jade Escort Agency around, he had to remain cautious.
Lingfeng felt anxious in his heart and had no mount available, so he secretly summoned all his strength.
In the pitch-black night, an ordinary person would likely struggle to find their way. However, Lingfeng had some cultivation; although the path ahead was unclear, he could barely make out where to go.
After an unknown amount of time running, Lingfeng finally arrived at Wisteria Mountain.
Following the path in his memory, he was about to reach the Gorge where Bear Brute was located, but suddenly felt that something had changed around him.
Lingfeng found it strange; the last time he came here, there was only one road ahead, but now there were four winding paths. Aside from their different directions, the flowers and trees along these paths seemed to be exact replicas of each other, almost indistinguishable.
"Oh no! Have I fallen into Brother Man's formation?" Although he knew that this place was set up with a formation, Lingfeng had no idea how to get out. Moreover, Man Pillar's cultivation level was much higher than his, making him feel even more anxious.
Though there were paths ahead, Lingfeng did not dare to act recklessly.
"Right, there are Loyal Minions patrolling the mountain. Why not shout for them to rescue me?" With this thought in mind, Lingfeng raised his voice and shouted several times.
Just then, a group of Loyal Minions happened to be nearby and were startled by the sudden shout. They thought some animal had entered the formation and did not dare to investigate further. Instead, they hurriedly turned back to report.
Before long, Bear Brute and Man Pillar arrived with laughter.
"Let's see what kind of prey is making such a terrifying noise; it must be something like a tiger or wolf!" Bear Brute said as he led the way, addressing Man Pillar.
Man Pillar merely smiled in response because he knew that many animals have keen senses of smell and could find their way out of the formation based on the scents left behind when they entered. However, those with less sensitive noses would become trapped here, including some individuals with lower cultivation levels.
As they chatted and laughed, another shout echoed through the air. This cry was urgent and fierce, sounding seven parts like a child and three parts like a tiger or wolf.
Bear Brute shivered slightly; after so many years in this mountain, he had never heard such a chilling cry before.
Man Pillar also showed a look of suspicion and suddenly recalled something. "The formation slightly altered the spatial structure; any sound made by animals will be distorted."
Bear Brute let out a sigh of relief and asked, "So it might just be some animals over there?"
"No!" The Man Pillar shook his head and said, "If it were an animal, how could it possibly know it was trapped? It couldn't be screaming like that. I suspect the one trapped is likely a human!"
"Human!" Everyone was taken aback. All the brothers of Wisteria Mountain knew which paths could be taken and which could not. Therefore, the one trapped in the formation must be an outsider.
With that, Bear Brute gripped his giant axe, waiting for the Man Pillar to break the formation.
The Man Pillar closed his eyes and chanted a few incantations before shouting, "Break!"
Lingfeng, who had been anxiously waiting, suddenly noticed that the scene before him was changing. Some of the winding paths gradually disappeared until only one remained. Focusing his gaze, he saw a group of people standing across from him—none other than Bear Brute and the Man Pillar, accompanied by a group of Loyal Minions.
Lingfeng was overjoyed and hurried over.
Seeing that the person before him was Lingfeng, Bear Brute quickly put down his giant axe and asked in confusion, "Brother, how did you come back?"
Lingfeng replied hastily, "It's bad! The convoy you intercepted belongs to the State Government. We've gotten ourselves into trouble this time; I'm here to warn you!"
"State Government?" Bear Brute pondered for a moment, scratching his head and said, "It's just a pearl. Is it worth causing such a big uproar?"
Lingfeng was already extremely anxious and said, "That pearl is a treasured item of the State Government, known as the Phoenix Pearl. You don't need to say much; those sent by the State Government are quite powerful and will arrive early tomorrow. You should hide for now!"
"Oh, brother, there's no need to worry!" Bear Brute laughed nonchalantly. "Wisteria Mountain is our territory; we naturally have places to hide. They want to find us? They'd have to turn Wisteria Mountain upside down!"
Lingfeng wasn't sure whether they were serious or not, but since the State Government was after the Phoenix Pearl, he took it out from Xuanji and said, "Brother Bear, this matter arose because of the Phoenix Pearl. If it can be resolved peacefully, you should return this item to them!"
The Phoenix Pearl had previously been wrapped in amber by Lingfeng and had not been unwrapped yet, so nothing unusual had occurred.
"How could that be?" Bear Brute said, "Once something is given, it cannot be taken back. Just keep it. Tomorrow, when they can't find us, they'll return on their own. There's no need for us to worry." With that, he intended to let Lingfeng enter the mountains and set up a feast, showing no signs of concern.
Seeing his arrogance, Lingfeng felt uneasy. Moreover, there were matters at the inn that needed his attention; if the others discovered he was missing, they would surely suspect something. It was already dawn, so he couldn't stay any longer.
After thinking for a moment, he said, "Brother Bear, I have matters to attend to and cannot linger here. Also, I would like to ask Brother Bear for a favor!"
Bear Brute sighed impatiently and complained, "We're already brothers; there's no need for such formalities. Just tell me what you want; there's no need to be so polite!"
Lingfeng felt a surge of emotion and replied, "I would like Crane Beast to take me back to Bai Family Town!"
Bear Brute noticed Lingfeng's anxious expression and understood that he had urgent business, so he didn't ask further. He then blew the Horn, and soon a long call echoed as Crane Beast arrived.
Bear Brute explained the situation to Crane Beast, who understood the task and approached Lingfeng.
Lingfeng gratefully nodded to everyone and then leaped onto Crane Beast's back before taking off into the sky.
To avoid alarming the townsfolk below, Lingfeng did not instruct Crane Beast to go directly to the inn. Instead, they stopped at the entrance of Bai Family Town. He patted Crane Beast's head and said, "Thank you; you can head back now!"
Crane Beast had a good impression of Lingfeng and nodded in response. It flapped its wings a few times before soaring away.
Lingfeng let out a sigh of relief just as the first rooster crowed.
He used Earth Escape Technique to arrive at the inn's backyard. The lights in the backyard were already on, and he could hear the sounds of chopping from the kitchen. He climbed through the window into his room and finally lay down on the bed to rest for a while.
Just as he began to feel drowsy, there was a knock at the door. "Guest! Someone has come to bring you water for washing!"
"Wait a moment!" Lingfeng replied listlessly, then got up, messed up the bedding, and pretended to have just woken up.
The door opened, and Er placed a basin of water on the chair, asking, "Guest, did you rest well last night?"
"Yes, it was fine!" Lingfeng answered vaguely.
Er nodded with a smile and was about to turn to leave. Lingfeng hurriedly called him back and slipped a piece of silver into his hand.
Er looked puzzled but did not accept it, thinking he had already received some money; why was he being given more?
Seeing that Er seemed troubled, Lingfeng smiled reassuringly and said, "Don't worry, I have a favor to ask of you!"
"Guest, whatever you need help with, just give the order!" Er replied.
Lingfeng pressed the silver into Er's hand and said, "Please help me prepare a fast horse shortly. I have some matters to attend to. Also, this room needs tidying up; I will reward you handsomely when I return!"
Er nodded repeatedly. Seeing Lingfeng's generosity and good looks, he thought he must be the son of some wealthy family. Noticing that Lingfeng was down-to-earth, his impression of him improved greatly. He solemnly said, "Rest assured, guest; I will take care of it right away!" Then he left the room and brought Lingfeng some breakfast.
