The woman could not believe Yasha's words and pulled Lingfeng's hand, wanting to go find Yama.
Lingfeng thought to himself that since he had come to the Underworld, it was better to avoid trouble. Although Yasha fed on both humans and ghosts, that was simply the food chain in the Underworld, something no one could change. He smiled at the woman and said, "I did come here on my own, but I also need to find Yama for some matters."
The woman was taken aback and looked at Lingfeng with suspicion. However, after considering that Yasha seemed to fear Lingfeng yet allowed him to ride on his back, she guessed that Lingfeng was not an ordinary person and asked, "What do you need to see Yama for?"
Lingfeng did not want to elaborate; these matters were of no use to ordinary ghosts. He replied, "It's a long story, but I need some Dog Buns!"
"That's easy! Take as many as you want," the woman said cheerfully upon realizing Lingfeng came from the Underworld, which reminded her of her family.
Lingfeng casually took a few Dog Buns and turned back to Yasha, saying, "I don't have any Underworld currency on me; you'll have to cover for me!"
Yasha was a bully in the Underworld. Although he was a subordinate of Yama, he did not receive any salary and rarely had any use for money. He looked at Lingfeng with some difficulty.
"What money? Just take it!" the woman said readily. Then she changed her tone and added, "But I would like to ask you for a favor!"
Lingfeng understood the principle of not accepting something for nothing. Moreover, since he was receiving a ghost's favor at this moment, he naturally wanted to help her with something. He nodded happily.
The woman's eyes showed some hesitation as she sighed before saying, "I have an illegitimate child in the Underworld. Years ago, I fell seriously ill and knew my time was short, so I left my child in Qingshui Village. By now, he should be in his twenties."
"Qingshui Village!" Lingfeng did not expect such a coincidence and said, "I come from Qingshui Village! If Aunt has anything you need me to help with, just let me know!"
The woman was naturally very pleased and quickly said, "In that case, I need you to help me even more. My illegitimate child has a black birthmark on his chest; it's very recognizable. As his biological mother, I feel guilty for not raising him and only wish for you to convey my apologies to him!"
Feeling pity for her parental heart, it seemed she had no choice but to abandon her son.
Lingfeng nodded with emotion and thought of his own situation of having no parents and wondering where they might be now. Perhaps they too felt guilty for abandoning him.
Lingfeng accepted this task, took the buns, and prepared to head towards Yama's Hall.
Just as he was about to set off, the woman grabbed him again and took out some Hell Coins from her waist. She placed them in Lingfeng's hand and said, "To enter Yama's Hall, you not only need to deal with Cerberus but also have to bribe the Yin Soldiers!"
Lingfeng looked down on the situation, not expecting that the Underworld was also a place of such power. He declined, saying, "Aunt, you can rest assured. Since I am here, I will naturally put an end to such bribery!" With that, he mounted Yasha's neck and headed towards Yama's Hall.
Yama's Hall was not just the residence of the King of Hell; it served as a gateway to the Eighteen Layers of Hell, the Bridge of Hel, and other locations. Yama's Hall was merely an intersection. However, it appeared grand and imposing, evoking a sense of reverence. Inside Yama's Hall, there were numerous Vengeful Spirits, and the atmosphere was filled with a chilling aura, making it somewhat eerie.
Upon reaching the entrance of Yama's Hall, Lingfeng indeed saw several listless Yin Soldiers. Nearby lay a sleeping Cerberus.
The Cerberus was massive; if it remained still, one might mistake it for a monumental statue. Its three enormous heads each occupied a side, squinting as if in a light slumber.
Lingfeng jumped down from Yasha's neck and said, "You can leave me here; you may go!"
Yasha seemed to have developed some feelings for Lingfeng. Throughout their journey, he sensed Lingfeng's righteousness and felt somewhat reluctant to part ways.
Seeing Yasha hesitate, Lingfeng smiled and said, "You are a Yin Officer of the Underworld, and I am a mortal from the Underworld. Even if you want to follow me, I fear I cannot take you with me! I may come back to the Underworld in the future; let’s meet again then!"
Yasha was even more moved by Lingfeng's words. Although he had been bound by Lingfeng during their journey, Lingfeng had not relied on his power but had instead treated him kindly. However, since humans and spirits were destined to part ways, Yasha decided not to linger and left.
Watching Yasha depart, Lingfeng sighed in relief. He then approached the grand doors of Yama's Hall and took out a Dog Bun, tossing it near Cerberus's nose.
Cerberus had not truly been asleep; it had merely been resting. Now awakened by the aroma of the bun, all six eyes opened wide as its three heads instinctively began to compete for it.
Lingfeng observed in surprise, thinking that although Cerberus had only one body, the scene of it fighting for food resembled that of three dogs. In reality, each head was not just seeking to be full but was drawn by the bun's enticing scent.
Lingfeng hid at a distance and waited until Cerberus finished eating the bun before casually pulling out another one.
Cerberus had a large appetite; one bun was certainly not enough to satisfy its hunger. Upon seeing the bun in Lingfeng's hand, its eyes sparkled with excitement as it hurriedly stood up and ran towards him.
Seizing the opportunity, Lingfeng threw all the buns far away. The buns scattered just right to give him time to enter Yama's Hall.
There were ten Yin Soldiers guarding the entrance, each with a gloomy expression and looking quite bored. However, upon seeing how Lingfeng managed to distract Cerberus so far away with his trick, they became intrigued by him and quietly blocked the entrance.
Lingfeng stepped forward, pretending not to notice those Yin Soldiers while contemplating how they would make things difficult for him.
Indeed, all ten Yin Soldiers stood at the entrance, leaving no gaps.
"Brothers, could you please make an exception?" Lingfeng asked with a smile while releasing all his Spiritual Energy.
The dazed Yin Soldier, wearing a skull helmet and holding a white bone spear, raised an eyebrow at Lingfeng, smirked at the other Yin Soldiers, but ignored Lingfeng.
Lingfeng frowned, thinking he had no time to waste with them, and repeated his earlier words.
The leading Yin Soldier finally glanced at Lingfeng and sneered, "Look at all that Spiritual Energy on you. There's no ghostly aura or mortal scent; you must be one of the Historians from above. However, I know that in the prosperous upper world, you must have brought some valuable items. Hand them over as a toll, and we'll let you pass. Otherwise, you can stay here comfortably!"
Lingfeng grew increasingly disgusted with this Yin Soldier and was surprised by the audacity of the Underworld. Even the Historians from above were being extorted; it seemed no one had disciplined them for a long time.
Lingfeng spread his hands and said disdainfully, "What valuable items do you think I have? How about Sun Root? Want to taste it right here?"
The other Yin Soldiers couldn't help but stifle their laughter at Lingfeng's words.
The leading Yin Soldier felt embarrassed but maintained his composure. He drew a dagger from his waist and pointed it at Lingfeng's groin, saying, "As long as you cut off your Sun Root, I'll take it back to enjoy with my drink!"
"Grandson, do you have a hearing problem? I meant for you to taste it right here!" Lingfeng didn't want to continue the back-and-forth and deliberately provoked the leading Yin Soldier with an insult.
That Yin Soldier had long been in charge of managing the entry and exit of ghosts and was heavily regulated by his superiors. Over time, he had developed an arrogant disposition. Moreover, those ghosts often bowed to these Yin Soldiers and bribed them with wealth, further boosting their morale.
Unexpectedly encountering someone who didn't understand the situation ignited his anger, and he wanted to teach Lingfeng a lesson.
After hearing Lingfeng's words, the leading Yin Soldier's face was filled with Killing Intent. He signaled to the other Yin Soldiers, and they surrounded Lingfeng together.
Lingfeng showed no fear and looked disdainfully at the Yin Soldiers.
"Listen up! Outside Yama's Hall is nothing like the Eighteen Layers of Hell; there one can be reborn after death, but here death means your soul will scatter! If you're smart, kneel down and give us a few respectful bows while handing over your wealth. I'll spare you this time!" the leading Yin Soldier warned again.
Lingfeng snorted coldly, pointed at the ground beneath him, and said, "Let me remind you: if you don't want your soul to scatter, you'd better kneel down and bow three times respectfully before licking my shoes clean!"
The Yin Soldiers were finally provoked by Lingfeng and could no longer hold back. They brandished their long spears and lunged at Lingfeng.
Lingfeng did not defend himself; he simply tapped his feet lightly and soared into the air.
The Yin Soldiers thought Lingfeng was just an ordinary Historian with no real skills, but they did not expect him to be so agile.
"We haven't had a chance to wield our weapons since we got here. Who would have thought you could actually put up a fight? This is just what we need to relive the old days!" With that, the Yin Soldiers raised their long spears again, twirling them in the air with a whooshing sound.
Lingfeng naturally did not take them seriously. These Yin Soldiers were merely selected from among many ghosts; those with real abilities would not be guarding this place.
Lingfeng whistled and made a face at the Yin Soldiers, swiftly twisting his body so that they couldn't even touch a hair on him.
"Is this all you've got, you punks?" Lingfeng taunted gleefully.
The Yin Soldiers were furious, shouting wildly as they glanced at Cerberus in the distance, still fighting over the food. They spat in frustration and charged at Lingfeng again.
Lingfeng's body flickered lightly, causing the long spears to stab into thin air. He then caught one of the spears in his hand. With a gentle twist of his wrist, there was a cracking sound, and the spear broke into two pieces.
The Yin Soldier was momentarily stunned, a hint of fear flashing across his face. Before he could escape, Lingfeng had already stabbed him to death with the spearhead.
