The remaining Yin Soldiers no longer dared to look at Lingfeng, their faces filled with terror.
At this moment, Lingfeng was also filled with killing intent as he stepped toward the Yin Soldiers.
Although they feared Lingfeng, it seemed they had no intention of giving up. They exchanged glances and shouted in unison, charging at Lingfeng once more.
Lingfeng grinned, casually holding the Connecting Rod in his hand. He recited an incantation to lengthen it and waved it, causing the long spears in the hands of the Yin Soldiers to split into two.
Before they could react, Lingfeng seized the opportunity to strike one of the Yin Soldiers with a blow that left him bloodied and unconscious on the ground, transforming into a cloud of black smoke and vanishing without a trace.
"You... who are you?" The leader of the Yin Soldiers stammered, seeing Lingfeng's power.
"Hmph! You aren't worthy to know my name!" With that, he prepared to move forward to finish him off.
However, just as he raised the Connecting Rod, he suddenly heard two barks. Lingfeng turned around to see that the Cerberus had finished its meal and was bounding toward him.
Now Lingfeng dared not linger; he quickly tucked the Connecting Rod behind him and hurriedly ran through the main gate. He activated the Earth Escape Technique to conceal his aura and shook off the Cerberus!
After running underground for a while, Lingfeng felt somewhat safe and finally emerged above ground.
To his surprise, Yama's Hall resembled a desolate town. However, this desolate town was devoid of sunlight, as if it were placed inside a room, with smoke rising from underground all around. The scene was even less appealing than outside Yama's Hall.
"Is this the office of the King of Hell?" Lingfeng wondered as he continued forward. Suddenly, he heard a heart-wrenching scream.
Startled, Lingfeng followed the sound and discovered a dimly lit hall ahead. The hall was not particularly grand but commanded respect; that scream had come from within.
As soon as Lingfeng entered, he suddenly heard a booming voice, "Chen, do you admit to your sins in life?"
The ghost referred to as Chen knelt on the ground, trembling. Her hands were already covered in blood, with an iron instrument of torture hanging above them.
Lingfeng watched in fear from the shadows, not daring to make a sound.
Chen trembled, looking at the person conducting the interrogation above, and no longer dared to lie. She hurriedly said, "This humble woman admits to her sins in life. Please have mercy, Lord Yan Wang!"
"Is that the King of Hell?" Lingfeng thought as he looked at the person on the throne. With thick eyebrows and big eyes, he had a solemn expression, but his beard made him look somewhat like a bandit leader.
Many people believe that in the Underworld, Yan Wang is the highest authority; however, above Yan Wang are the Ten Yama Kings. And above the Ten Yama Kings is Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. Therefore, this Yan Wang is merely a judge and would not dare to be biased or corrupt.
"Mercy?" Yan Wang sneered coldly and said sternly, "If all beings in the Three Realms were to plead for my mercy, then what use would there be for this underworld!" He then turned to Ox-Head and Horse-Face on either side and commanded, "Throw her into the Eighteen Layers of Hell to suffer all its tortures, then cast her into the Beast Path!"
Ox-Head and Horse-Face responded and dragged Chen away as if disposing of garbage.
Once Chen was taken away, Yan Wang finally sighed in relief and reclined in his chair to rest for a moment.
The Judge beside him flipped through the Book of Life and Death, checking the names listed within. After a while, he said, "Lord Yan Wang, all the sinners have been judged today!"
Hearing this, Yan Wang let out a sigh of relief and suddenly said slowly, "Let the person outside come in!"
Lingfeng was taken aback and panicked, thinking that he had released all his Spiritual Energy; how could Yan Wang still sense him?
Just as he hesitated whether to enter or not, he saw Yan Wang wave his hand impatiently. A gust of cold wind suddenly pushed Lingfeng inside!
Yan Wang paid no attention to Lingfeng and appeared confident.
The Judge saw Lingfeng and nodded with a smile, looking very amiable. Then he slightly bowed to Yan Wang and said, "Sir, I will take my leave now!"
"Mm!" Yan Wang replied lightly. The Judge then took the Book of Life and Death and slowly exited.
Lingfeng stood there, looking at the weary King of Hell, unsure whether to leave or stay. After a while, his legs began to ache. However, even after waiting for some time, the King of Hell still did not say a word.
"Hey, since you've discovered me, why are you silent? Why act so aloof?" Lingfeng finally couldn't hold back and asked with a raised eyebrow.
The King of Hell not only did not get angry but instead revealed a rare smile. "I was waiting for you to speak. Since you can come to the Underworld, you must have some skills! So, what brings you here?"
Lingfeng raised an eyebrow, thinking that he came here because of the souls that had escaped from the Underworld. He wanted to see the King of Hell and question him about his negligence in managing his subordinates who were committing wrongdoings. "Since you can sense my presence, can't you also be aware of what happens outside Yama's Hall?"
"Outside Yama's Hall?" The King of Hell seemed curious as he sensed that Lingfeng's words held deeper meaning.
Lingfeng glanced at the King of Hell. Although he felt some trepidation inside, he pretended to be calm and took a seat on a chair, crossing his legs. "Let me ask you, how long has it been since you last left Yama's Hall?"
The King of Hell noticed that Lingfeng did not observe proper etiquette; all souls in the Underworld were supposed to kneel before him and even refer to him as 'Grandfather King.' However, this soul not only intruded into the Underworld but also seemed to disregard him. Surprised and somewhat displeased, the King of Hell darkened his expression and said, "Do you really think I fear your abilities? How can you be so disrespectful?"
"Respect?" Lingfeng found it amusing. "The Underworld should not only manage the Cultivation Realm but also oversee the souls of the mortal world, right?"
The King of Hell was speechless and looked at Lingfeng with confusion.
Lingfeng glanced at him and lightly flicked off some dust from his pants, casually saying, "The mortal world now values openness; there's no need to bow before superiors. Even ordinary mortals understand the principle of equality among Daoists. Does the renowned King of Hell really not know this?"
Lingfeng's rambling left the King of Hell baffled and unsure about what Lingfeng truly wanted.
After setting up many mysteries, Lingfeng continued, "When I just entered Yama's Hall, I happened to encounter your Yin Soldiers. To my surprise, those Yin Soldiers even demanded a toll. Is this what you call respect?"
Lingfeng skipped over the part about Yasha and went straight to the gatekeeping Yin Soldiers.
Yasha consuming souls was part of the food chain; Lingfeng couldn't intervene in that. However, the Yin Soldiers collecting tolls was not a legitimate rule. They were granted positions in the Underworld and freed from the suffering of reincarnation; that alone was already a great blessing. Yet unexpectedly, they still extorted money from those souls.
Yama listened to Lingfeng's words and finally understood the purpose of Lingfeng's arrival. He then shouted towards the door, "Come in!"
"Yes!" A Ox-Head and a Horse Face entered from outside, looking fierce and strong.
"Bring the Yin Soldiers from Yama's Hall inside!" Yama commanded.
Ox-Head and Horse Face complied and turned to leave.
After hearing a bunch of nonsensical words, Yama slightly rose and walked past Lingfeng, glancing at him as he said, "How did you enter the Underworld? Don't you know that mortals are not allowed in the Underworld?"
Lingfeng was at a loss for how to respond, but since Yama had given him a chance to explain himself, he couldn't let it slip away. He sighed and said, "I didn't want to come to this dark place either, but I had no choice!"
"What do you mean by that?" Yama asked.
Lingfeng then truthfully recounted how he ended up in the Underworld, embellishing the situation in Qingshui Village to make it sound far worse than it actually was.
However, it seemed he had gone a bit too far, as Yama frowned with a look of skepticism.
"I will remember your words and send someone to verify them. But if there is even a hint of falsehood in what you say, I will take away fifty years of your lifespan!" Yama threatened.
Naturally, there were lies in Lingfeng's words, and he certainly didn't want his lifespan reduced. He exclaimed, pointing at Yama, "Look at you! Bullying others with your power again. As the saying goes, if the upper beam is not straight, the lower beam will be crooked. If even the King of Hell behaves like this, how can the Yin Soldiers below be any better?" With that, he simply sat down on the ground and turned his face away, saying, "Since I'm going to die anyway, I might as well not move. I haven't done any evil deeds in life; I'm not afraid of going to hell now!"
Yama was taken aback and silently pondered something.
At that moment, Ox-Head and Horse Face returned with the Yin Soldiers following behind them.
The Yin Soldiers had initially feared Lingfeng, but upon seeing him sitting on the ground acting petulant, they were even more startled. They thought he was trying to charm Yama. A bad premonition surged in their hearts, and they quickly knelt on the ground, pleading with Yama and Lingfeng for mercy.
"It seems that what he said is true!" Yama asked in a deep voice, his face regaining its authority.
"Of course, even a spit from Hero is like a nail!" Lingfeng boldly shouted.
Yama remained silent, only furrowing his brows as he glanced at Lingfeng.
"My lord, how should we deal with these Yin Soldiers?" Ox-Head approached Yama and asked softly.
After pondering for a moment and looking at Lingfeng, Yama finally said, "Remove their positions and send them to the Six Paths of reincarnation!"
"No way, no way! Such a punishment is too lenient!" Upon hearing this decision, Lingfeng felt quite indignant. He stood up without brushing off the dust from his backside and shouted loudly.
"How dare you raise your voice in front of Lord Yama!" Ox-Head scolded as he saw Lingfeng acting defiantly.
Lingfeng glanced at Ox-Head with disdain and retorted, "My lord, he is your lord, but not mine. Besides, my mouth is on my own head; I can say whatever I want. Do you have any right to control me?"
"You~~!" Ox-Head was about to step forward but was stopped by Yama.
"Then how do you think they should be dealt with?" Yama asked gently, his demeanor softening.
