The entire Underground Cave fell into silence, the air gradually solidifying, as if it had suddenly transitioned from summer to winter.
The Land Elder stared at Lingfeng as if he were a monster, and after a long pause, he awkwardly smiled and said, "What does the Great Sage refer to?"
It turned out that the true purpose of the Soul Capturing Pill was not to capture the opponent's soul, but rather to convey their thoughts about oneself. It was akin to eavesdropping, but not as sophisticated.
Naturally, the Land Elder did not know that Lingfeng was already aware of his thoughts; he merely assumed that Lingfeng was trying to intimidate him.
"Do you know what I made you eat earlier?" Lingfeng said with an evil grin.
The hairs on the Land Elder's body stood on end. Looking at Lingfeng's smile, he felt utterly uncomfortable.
"In fact, what I gave you was a kind of elixir that can convey your consciousness to me without reservation!" Lingfeng exaggerated intentionally, ensuring that the Land Elder would be honest.
The Land Elder seemed somewhat skeptical, staring blankly at Lingfeng like a fool.
Lingfeng exhaled, seemingly feeling that the world was quite beautiful. He then gently lifted the Connecting Rod and placed it against the Land Elder's neck, speaking softly, "Do you think reporting me will be useful? You might not only fail to do anything to me but instead harm yourself!"
"Ah!" The Land Elder wished he could spit blood at that moment and perform a show of suffering. However, being a deity himself, he wasn't injured and had no blood to spit; he could only kneel down again and plead for mercy, "Great Sage, please spare me! Great Sage, please spare me! I did not know your powers and harbored evil thoughts in my heart. Please forgive me!"
Lingfeng snorted coldly, lightly brushing off his sleeves without even glancing at the Land Elder. "I will know your thoughts no matter where you are. My purpose for descending this time is not just for a secret visit but also to investigate the situation in the Mandala Demon Realm. I have heard that the Demon Realm is already stirring, and the Demon Lord Reincarnation has been found. So I changed my appearance to take a look. However, although I possess great powers, I cannot easily reveal them; therefore, I need two spies. Since you have encountered me, I might as well use you!" His expression suggested reluctance towards using them when in fact he was quite pleased.
Regardless, the Land Elder was still a deity who could at least conceal his form and help gather information for him. As for Ke Yu, being a disciple of the Spirit Sect made it easy for him to move in and out of there, which would also assist Lingfeng in entering the Spirit Sect.
Both the Land Elder and Ke Yu knelt down together, finally showing some sincerity and no longer daring to think of anything else. They didn't even dare think about private matters for fear of being seen through by Lingfeng.
"Ke Yu, soon I will go with you to the Spirit Sect. You will help me join the Spirit Sect, and I will handle everything else myself. In the future, if anything comes up, I will call on you secretly!" Lingfeng said.
Ke Yu made a sound and then stood to one side.
"As for you..." Lingfeng glanced at the land still kneeling on the ground, pondering for a moment before saying, "You can stay here and continue being your land. When the people from Spirit Sect come, you will receive them as usual. If you can extract any information from them, that would be best!"
The land breathed a sigh of relief, panting like a lapdog and wiping the sweat from its forehead as if released from a heavy burden.
Lingfeng did not expect it to be resolved so easily; he felt proud and admired his own courage.
Then Lingfeng did not linger, instructing the land on some trivial matters and giving it a significant threat, making the land tremble in fear, obedient from top to bottom, inside and out, before he finally left.
Upon exiting the Land Temple, Ke Yu pointed to a strange forest ahead and said, "That forest is the barrier of Spirit Sect. Spirit Sect is hidden within that forest."
Lingfeng gazed into the distance but felt that the forest was eerie; apart from the strange black mist, he could hardly see any trees.
"This barrier was personally set up by the Spirit Priest. Anyone who trespasses into the forest will immediately lose their way until they are bitten to death by the poisonous creatures within!" Ke Yu continued.
Lingfeng frowned and looked at Ke Yu, asking, "Then how do you usually get in and out?"
Ke Yu smiled, taking out a skull-shaped necklace from his chest and said, "This is the key to breaking through the forest. As long as you carry this Skeleton Key, you won't get lost in the woods. Moreover, the poisonous snakes and insects in the forest won't come near you!"
Lingfeng nodded, relaxing his brow. He pretended to be nonchalant as he swaggered toward the forest.
In truth, he knew that Ke Yu would definitely stay by his side because out of fear of Sun Wukong's abilities and reputation, they naturally wouldn't dare let Sun Wukong suffer even a little harm.
"By the way, once we go in, don't call me Sun Wukong. Just call me whatever!" Lingfeng instructed while walking into the forest.
"Yes, yes, yes!" Ke Yu replied while taking off the Skeleton Key, placing one part in Lingfeng's hand and keeping the other part in his own hand.
Lingfeng felt impatient, seemingly reluctant to hold the rope, yet secretly tightened his grip.
After walking a few steps, Lingfeng felt completely engulfed in darkness. Aside from being able to see Ke Yu, even the scenery behind him had changed. On the surrounding trees, some poisonous snakes and insects were crawling. Although they were far away, it still made Lingfeng break out in a cold sweat.
Ke Yu stopped and silently chanted a few incantations. Gradually, the surroundings began to change. The thick black mist around them started to thin out, and soon the trees transformed into illusions, ultimately dissipating into mist that vanished with the wind.
After a while, a steep cliff appeared ahead, and below it were three openings.
Lingfeng looked at Ke Yu and asked in confusion, "Does Spirit Sect live in caves?"
Ke Yu smiled and replied, "These three openings are entrances to Spirit Sect, set up by the Spirit Priest. In fact, these three openings are just large doors leading to different places!" He pointed to the opening on the right and said, "This is the entrance to the marshlands, which is a forbidden area of Spirit Sect. Those who enter often face Narrow Escape. The middle opening is the true entrance to Spirit Sect, while the left opening leads to a cliff. Anyone who steps into this opening will lose control of their actions and fall into the abyss, often resulting in Narrow Escape!"
Lingfeng couldn't help but click his tongue, thinking how fortunate he was not to have come here recklessly. He had prepared in advance; otherwise, he would likely have faced Narrow Escape as well.
"Actually, I already noticed; I just wanted to see if you are truly loyal to me!" Lingfeng turned away with a bold face.
However, Ke Yu, misinterpreting this as doubt about his loyalty, knelt down with a thud and fearfully swore, "My loyalty to you, Great Sage, is evident; even Sentient Beings can testify. If I have any insincerity towards you, may I be struck by lightning and bitten by poisonous snakes..."
Ke Yu's earnest demeanor left Lingfeng both amused and exasperated. He hurriedly helped Ke Yu up and whispered, "You don't need to swear. I'm just testing you now to avoid trouble later. Moreover, you absolutely cannot kneel casually in the future. We are in Spirit Sect, and I know that the experts here are formidable; they might discover our actions. If they find out, my death wouldn't matter, but your body’s Soul Capturing Pill would become toxic. At that point, even if an Arhat descended, it wouldn't save you!"
These words from Lingfeng were profound and had a double meaning. He warned Ke Yu to be loyal in the future while also showing concern for him. Although it was feigned sentimentality, it deeply moved Ke Yu.
"Great Sage, I..." Ke Yu, with tears in his eyes, looked at Lingfeng as if he were a great benefactor.
Lingfeng sighed and patted Ke Yu on the shoulder, saying, "Since we have met, it shows we are fated. People often say that after a hundred years of cultivation one shares a boat together; after a thousand years of cultivation one shares a bed! Once I finish my tasks, I will take you westward and give you a proper reward so you can enjoy the pleasures of Western Paradise!"
Hearing this from Lingfeng, Ke Yu felt another wave of confused emotion wash over him. He blinked rapidly and wished he could kiss Lingfeng's feet. After a moment, he said, "Although I don't understand what you mean by your words, I know that you treat me well. Rest assured, I will wholeheartedly accompany you across the waters..."
"Alright, alright..." Before Ke Yu could finish, Lingfeng hurriedly interrupted him, seemingly relieved, "It's better not to understand, it's better not to understand. Let's go in!"
With that, they walked towards the entrance in the center.
"Great Sage, wait a moment!" Just as they were about to enter, Ke Yu called out to Lingfeng again.
"What is it?" Lingfeng turned back and asked.
"The entrance in the middle has a trap. Although this kind of trap won't harm the Great Sage, I would still feel bad if even a hair on the Great Sage was hurt!" With that, he stepped forward and gently touched the skeleton statue beside the entrance, silently reciting a few incantations. Immediately, the entrance emitted a harsh sound, like two pieces of metal scraping against each other.
"What is that?" Lingfeng asked.
"Oh, that's the Iron Skin Formation!" Ke Yu replied. "This formation is set up using high-quality Dark Iron sheets. Anyone who trespasses will be turned into minced meat!"
As soon as Ke Yu said this, Lingfeng nearly stumbled, and beads of sweat suddenly appeared on his forehead.
"Having lived in the West for so long, I've really become a bit unaccustomed to the Mortal Realm's environment; I actually feel a bit hot!" Lingfeng wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and looked at the empty path.
In fact, Lingfeng felt somewhat embarrassed about such a trap setup. If it hadn't been for Ke Yu's timely warning just now, Lingfeng would have likely ended up as minced meat!
