The Demon Spirit Warrior grinned wickedly as it approached Lingfeng step by step.
Seeing that there was no one around, not even the Assassin Hall Master, Lingfeng frowned.
"I have no choice but to use a Spell!" Lingfeng took out a Firecracker from his sleeve. He then made a hand gesture, lightly pointing his left hand towards the flame of the Firecracker, and a burst of fire shot towards the Demon Spirit Warrior.
However, the Demon Spirit Warrior seemed like an illusion, merely shifting slightly as the flames passed right through its body.
"Is this an illusion?" Lingfeng realized that the Demon Spirit Warrior had a dull expression and its movements were sluggish, clearly not like a normal Demon Spirit Warrior. Thus, Lingfeng suspected that this Demon Spirit Warrior was likely an illusion created by the formation.
"It seems there is something very important on the fourth floor; otherwise, they wouldn't use a formation for concealment!" With this thought, Lingfeng's fear gradually dissipated. He drew out the Connecting Rod and shouted loudly as he swung it towards the Demon Spirit Warrior.
Indeed, the Demon Spirit Warrior appeared like a pool of clear water, ethereal and elusive; it merely blurred slightly without sustaining any damage.
Lingfeng was overjoyed and pointed at the Demon Spirit Warrior, laughing, "It really is just a trick to fool children!" With that, he charged towards the Demon Spirit Warrior, intending to pass through its body.
However, to Lingfeng's surprise, the body of the Demon Spirit Warrior turned out to be solid; he could not get through at all.
"W-What is happening?" Lingfeng was knocked to the ground, staring in terror at the Demon Spirit Warrior.
"Wa ha ha ha..." The Demon Spirit Warrior suddenly let out a mocking laugh. After a moment, it bent down and reached out its hand towards Lingfeng, who was sitting on the ground.
Lingfeng did not dare to be careless; enduring the pain in his head, he thrust the Connecting Rod at the Demon Spirit Warrior. But just like before, the Connecting Rod pierced through the chest of the Demon Spirit Warrior without any blood or pain affecting it.
The Demon Spirit Warrior looked at Lingfeng's actions as if watching a cat amusing itself and couldn't help but laugh heartily.
Lingfeng glanced at the tall Demon Spirit Warrior; its legs were like two pillars, and its entire body blocked the corridor like a wall. Yet beneath it, there was a large gap.
"Han Yu was able to endure the humiliation, so I shall follow his example!" With that, Lingfeng lay on the ground and, taking advantage of the Demon Spirit Warrior's laughter, darted straight through his legs.
The Demon Spirit Warrior was too heavy. When he realized Lingfeng had disappeared, he attempted to turn his body, but did not expect Lingfeng to be so agile. In just a few flips, Lingfeng had already reached the end of the wall. However, the Demon Spirit Warrior struggled to turn around several times; the corridor was too narrow, and it took him considerable effort to finally face the right direction.
Although Lingfeng quickly reached the corner of the wall, he did not find the teleportation portal. Just when he thought he could escape from the Demon Spirit Warrior's grasp, he discovered how treacherous the fourth floor was.
The Demon Spirit Warrior no longer wanted to play and swiftly charged toward Lingfeng. Each step he took shook the ground as if an earthquake had struck, causing the entire Scripture Repository to tremble.
Lingfeng covered his ears, feeling utterly helpless as he shrank back against the wall in fear.
He dared not look at the Demon Spirit Warrior, but a vague shadow appeared in his line of sight. The towering figure raised a sharp battle axe and swung it down toward Lingfeng.
Just as the battle axe was about to strike, a loud shout echoed through the empty corridor, followed by a fierce wind sweeping through.
The Demon Spirit Warrior seemed to be nothing more than dust; as the fierce wind blew past, his body began to blur and dissipate, and the battle axe in his hand turned into a shadow before vanishing into thin air.
Lingfeng stared in disbelief at what was happening before him, watching as the once triumphant Demon Spirit Warrior gradually disappeared from view, as if in a dream.
With the Demon Spirit Warrior's disappearance, the space began to change. The outline of a teleportation portal appeared beside Lingfeng, and with a flash of purple light, the fourth floor returned to its original state. At another corner of the corridor stood the Assassin Hall Master.
"Assassin Hall Master!" Lingfeng wiped away his sweat and slowly stood up.
The Assassin Hall Master retracted his finger and hurried over to Lingfeng's side, gently supporting him while asking with concern, "Are you alright?"
Lingfeng shook his head but still asked with lingering fear, "Was that really the Demon Spirit Warrior? I almost lost my life to him!"
"Actually, that was just your illusion!" the Assassin Hall Master said. "Different people have different fears in their hearts, and the Spell on this fourth floor manifests illusions based on those fears. What I don't understand is, how could you feel fear when you saw the Demon Spirit Warrior for the first time?"
Lingfeng remained silent. When he first saw the Demon Spirit Warrior at the entrance, he felt a sense of discomfort. However, Lingfeng was certain that this feeling was definitely not fear.
In the entire Cultivation Realm, there was probably nothing that could instill fear in Lingfeng.
"That's not right. The feeling I had when I saw the Demon Spirit Warrior was the same as when I saw the Tao Tie; it was a sense of déjà vu!" Lingfeng thought to himself, but he did not express this feeling.
Seeing Lingfeng gradually recovering, the Assassin Hall Master then asked, "By the way, how did you get to the fourth floor?"
"Oh," Lingfeng came back to his senses and concealed his inner doubts. "I wanted to see what secret manuals were on the fourth floor."
"The fourth floor contains records related to the Mandala Demon Realm; there aren't any secret manuals. I came here just to pass the time." After that, Lingfeng followed the Assassin Hall Master back to the third floor.
Lingfeng pretended to browse through some books but showed little interest. Seizing the opportunity, he said, "The secret manuals on the third floor are all quite basic Spells. Is there nothing more advanced?"
The Assassin Hall Master was not surprised. "Actually, the secret manuals on the third floor are meant for disciples who are currently cultivating. The truly high-level Spell manuals are actually on the second floor. However, the second floor is not open to disciples who are currently cultivating, so you cannot enter!"
Lingfeng did not hide his disappointment but was still unwilling to give up.
After looking for a while longer, Lingfeng briefly glanced at the two books given to him by the Assassin Hall Master before putting them back and leaving.
As usual, in the afternoon, Lingfeng began his Cultivation. However, he had other matters to attend to in the evening and did not enter a meditative state.
By late at night, all the disciples had begun to sleep. Other Hall Masters also started their Cultivation phase, and Lingfeng took some darts and went alone to Demon Spirit Mountain.
Based on the previous experience, Lingfeng directly skipped the peaks he had already checked and climbed over several hills to reach the depths.
The depths of Demon Spirit Mountain were very quiet, completely devoid of the lively scenes from the earlier peaks, as if they were two different worlds.
"Demon Spirit Mountain spans at least a thousand miles. Searching like this is quite a challenge!" Thinking of this, Lingfeng couldn't help but entertain thoughts of giving up.
However, he quickly remembered that when he arrived at Spirit Sect, he had tamed a Land God. Since he was the land of the Mandala Demon Realm, he should be quite familiar with the terrain of Demon Spirit Mountain. With this thought, excitement surged within Lingfeng again, and he decided not to continue searching but to return home.
Back in his room, Lingfeng began his cultivation meditation. The next morning, he was awakened by Major Servant. He spent the morning practicing a simple spell with the Master of the Demon Cult, and then took advantage of the afternoon's free time to call for Ke Yu.
"Junior Brother, what’s up?" Ke Yu hurried over upon receiving Lingfeng's summons.
"This afternoon I want to go to the Land God’s place. You’re coming with me!" Lingfeng stated directly.
Ke Yu was taken aback and asked curiously, "What made you think of going there?"
Lingfeng shot Ke Yu an impatient glance and replied, "Why ask so much? Just come with me!"
In fact, Lingfeng wanted Ke Yu to accompany him for safety reasons. First, since arriving at Spirit Sect, Lingfeng had not gone out yet. Moreover, Spirit Sect's rule was that new disciples could not leave freely in a short period. Bringing Ke Yu along would save him from those tedious procedures. Secondly, he didn't know how to find the Land God's residence, while Ke Yu was a frequent visitor and knew the way well.
Hearing Lingfeng's words, Ke Yu dared not ask further questions. After having lunch, he took Lingfeng out of Spirit Sect.
The two arrived at an open area outside Spirit Sect where there was a small Land Temple. They entered the Land Temple, and Ke Yu took out a Skeleton Pendant and said to Lingfeng, "It's not difficult to meet the Land God. Just take out the Skeleton Pendant and silently recite the Land God's divine name!" He then placed the Skeleton Pendant in his palm, clasped his hands together, and began to recite the divine name.
Sure enough, just as he finished reciting the divine name, a surge of spiritual light erupted from the ground. Soon after, the figure of the Land God appeared and walked out.
Upon seeing Lingfeng, the land deity did not dare to be negligent and showed a face of fear. He immediately fell to the ground and said, "I did not know that the Great Sage had arrived. I apologize for not welcoming you properly. Please forgive me!"
Lingfeng had no time for pleasantries and said, "No need for all this bowing and scraping; it's annoying!" Then he turned to Ke Yu and said, "You wait outside for a moment; I have some questions for the land deity."
Ke Yu quickly responded and left the Land Temple.
"What does the Great Sage wish to ask?" The land deity, sensing Lingfeng's serious demeanor, asked first.
Seeing that Ke Yu had exited, Lingfeng sat down on the Altar, looking down at the land deity and said, "As the land deity of the Mandala Demon Realm, you should know this area like the back of your hand!"
"Of course!" the land deity replied.
Lingfeng nodded, "That's good. So how much do you know about Demon Spirit Mountain?"
Unexpectedly, as soon as Lingfeng's words left his mouth, a look of fear immediately appeared on the land deity's face. He cautiously glanced outside and leaned closer to Lingfeng's ear, saying, "Great Sage, you may not know this, but Demon Spirit Mountain is no longer under divine jurisdiction."
Lingfeng was taken aback, revealing a look of skepticism.
The land deity continued to explain, "Demon Spirit Mountain has not belonged to the Mortal Realm for over a thousand years; it is directly governed by the Demon Realm. Moreover, the Spirit Sect's Spirit Priest has previously warned against divine beings probing into matters concerning the Mandala Demon Realm. Otherwise... otherwise..."
