“Young Master Ye, please spare him this once. He’s just talking...” Zhou Old Trick said. Although timid and honest, he was not foolish. He clearly understood that Ye Tian intended to torture Lu Liu. Regardless of what he said, the outcome would remain the same.
“It’s fine,” Ye Tian replied coldly. Good people are certainly not to be hated, but they are not necessarily lovable either. Zhou Old Trick belonged to the type that took advantage and then acted innocent, having saved his own life yet still pleading for someone else.
“Young Master Ye... no, no, no, Grandpa Ye, please spare me...” Lu Liu noticed that Ye Tian’s attitude towards Zhou Old Trick wasn’t too harsh and felt a glimmer of hope. He continued to bow repeatedly while softly begging for mercy.
“Of course I can spare you, but if one makes mistakes, they must accept punishment; otherwise, they will never learn,” Ye Tian said as he walked over and squatted in front of Lu Liu.
“That’s only natural, that’s only natural,” Lu Liu exclaimed, his eyes lighting up at the prospect of saving his life.
“Come with me,” Ye Tian said as he stood up and headed outside. Nearing the door, he glanced back at Zhou Old Trick and added, “You come too.”
Though the two didn’t know what Ye Tian intended, they dared not refuse and followed behind obediently. They couldn’t walk too slowly or too quickly, creating an awkward atmosphere.
“Open the door,” Ye Tian instructed Zhou Old Trick when they reached the outer courtyard gate.
Zhou Old Trick stared at Ye Tian in shock. The audacity of Ye Tian walking around the Wang family estate without a care astonished him because he was unaware that at this moment, only the three of them were left alive in the vast outer courtyard.
The heavy Bronze Door, nearly ten feet tall, slowly creaked open. In the dead of night, the sound of the door opening was particularly eerie, but what was even more chilling was the sight of corpses scattered outside.
“Gasp...” Zhou Old Trick inhaled sharply but was clever enough not to make a sound.
“Head north, over there,” Ye Tian pointed northward.
Following Ye Tian’s direction, Zhou and Lu saw a dense forest beside the main road. The moonlight was hazy, and the forest appeared very dark. The occasional cawing of crows added an extra layer of horror.
“Grandpa... I really know my mistakes now,” Lu Liu realized he could see all the bodies on the ground. He wasn’t a fool; estimating that the forest was several miles away meant that the Wang family would definitely not hear his cries from there. This suggested that Ye Tian might very well intend to kill him in that secluded place.
"Quick, quick," Zhou Old Trick stepped forward to support Lu Liu. He was a bit smarter than Lu Liu; he knew that if Ye Tian wanted to kill someone, there was no need to go into the woods, so begging for mercy was useless and would only make Ye Tian more impatient.
Ye Tian did not respond but continued walking ahead. The two exchanged a quick glance and hurried to follow.
As they walked, Lu Liu could not bear the fear in his heart and elbowed Zhou Old Trick, who was trudging ahead in silence. He whispered, "Do you think he will kill me...?"
Zhou Old Trick dared not speak, only casting frequent glances at Ye Tian, signaling Lu Liu to keep his voice down.
"The brothers at the entrance were all killed by him, right..." Lu Liu's voice dropped even lower, barely audible. His question was rather pointless; he knew full well that those at the entrance had been killed by Ye Tian. He asked this hoping to gain some comfort from Zhou Old Trick.
"What do you think..." Zhou Old Trick forced a bitter smile. By this point, he had a vague premonition that not only the guards at the entrance but also those in the side rooms might not have escaped their fate.
Hearing this, Lu Liu's face turned ashen. His ears had been severed, and every gust of wind brought sharp pain, yet he seemed oblivious to it now because the fear in his heart had overshadowed the pain.
All along the way, Lu Liu chattered incessantly, and his anxiety became even more pronounced as they neared the woods. In contrast to Lu Liu's panic, Zhou Old Trick remained cautious and measured in his responses.
Ye Tian ignored them both; their behavior stemmed from fear-induced anxiety. Sometimes being killed wasn't the scariest part; the terrifying thing was not knowing what one was about to face.
After about a stick of incense's worth of time, the three finally reached the center of the woods. Lu Liu looked up; due to the shadows cast by the trees, the bright moon in the sky appeared particularly gloomy at that moment.
"I have a few questions for you. Answer satisfactorily, and I may spare your lives," Ye Tian stopped and turned to ask.
Lu Liu's heart leaped with joy upon hearing this; he quickly interjected, "Ask me! I know more than he does."
In his desperation to survive, Lu Liu spoke like this. This statement revealed that he not only felt no gratitude towards Zhou Old Trick for pleading on his behalf but also intended to use Zhou Old Trick as a stepping stone to save himself.
Ye Tian looked down on such scum but did not explode in anger; he merely sneered coldly. He had no intention of killing Lu Liu; what he wanted was for Lu Liu to wish for death.
"How many men did the Wang family lose attacking the Cold Family?" Ye Tian asked coldly.
"About four hundred!" Lu Liu answered quickly.
"Who led them?" Ye Tian asked again. Lu Liu's previous answer was similar to what the vendor described. The Wang family should have around a thousand men; losing three hundred in the bandit extermination left them with seven hundred. Losing another four hundred attacking the Cold Family roughly matched half.
"Lord Wei Yang... Wang Weiyang, that beast!" Lu Liu interjected, changing his tone to please Ye Tian.
"Just him alone?" Ye Tian questioned, puzzled. If it were only Wang Weiyang, the Cold Family would not have suffered such a devastating defeat.
"There was another person," Zhou Old Trick spoke up.
"Who is it?" Ye Tian searched his mind for any strong figures in Spirit Martial Town who could match Cold Boyuan, but after thinking it over, he could only come up with Elder Ge, who presided over the Martial Arts Selection Tournament. However, Elder Ge would not help the Wang family and certainly would not attack the Cold Family.
"I don't know him. He disguised himself as an ordinary Guardian. I only know he's an old man around seventy or eighty years old," Zhou Old Trick ignored Lu Liu's resentful glare.
"If you threaten again, I'll take one of your eyes," Ye Tian said coldly, noticing Lu Liu glaring at Zhou Old Trick.
Lu Liu trembled at the words and then cowered beside them, not daring to look up. Zhou Old Trick's earlier dismissal of his answer made him resentful.
"How did you know he was a diplomat?" Ye Tian gestured for Zhou Old Trick to speak freely, disregarding Lu Liu.
Zhou Old Trick thought for a moment and said, "After breaking into the Cold Family, I had neither the heart nor the courage to fight, so I secretly found a place to hide. Unexpectedly, I saw Wang Weiyang talking to that old man. Before long, Cold Boyuan arrived, and they all started fighting."
Ye Tian nodded; his previous speculation was indeed correct. Wang Weiyang had not reached a level where he could face Cold Boyuan one-on-one; that old man was his helper.
"Did they have any conversation before they started fighting?" Ye Tian asked again. As long as there was dialogue, there would surely be some useful details to deduce.
"Before I acted, there was nothing, but while we were fighting, Cold Boyuan said something. Let me think about what it was..." Zhou Old Trick frowned in deep thought. After a moment, he said, "Who are you? The Cold Family has no grievances with you. Why have you come here to commit murder?"
"This is the exact wording; not a word is different," Zhou Old Trick said with great certainty.
"Well, you can leave now," Ye Tian nodded.
"Thank you, benefactor! Thank you!" Zhou Old Trick was so excited that he bowed repeatedly. Although he sensed that Ye Tian would not kill him, he did not expect to be let go so easily.
"Benefactor, what about me?" Lu Liu, seeing this, turned red with jealousy and eagerly knelt before Ye Tian, looking up with hope.
"Don't call me benefactor randomly; I will not show you any mercy," Ye Tian replied coldly. At this moment, he had already obtained the answer he wanted. The conversation between Cold Boyuan and the old man revealed two things: first, the old man was not from Spirit Martial Town and was also not a Martial Sovereign. If he were a Martial Sovereign, Cold Boyuan would not refer to him as a demon. In other words, Cold Boyuan called him a demon because this person must have used some strange Evil Scriptures, which mostly come from the Blood Sect. Second, this person acted decisively without wasting words; he was a ruthless character.
"I know all about The Secret of the Wang Family; I am willing to reveal everything!" Lu Liu saw that Ye Tian's expression had cooled halfway and hurriedly spoke up.
"Oh? Tell me more," Ye Tian said, looking at Lu Liu like a raccoon observing a mouse. He certainly did not believe what Lu Liu said; how could a mere outer gate guard know any secrets?
"The old man left yesterday," Lu Liu began to speak based on Ye Tian's previous questions.
Ye Tian frowned slightly upon hearing this. Lu Liu's actions seemed to be an attempt to curry favor; the truth of his words could not be confirmed.
"Go into detail."
Seeing that his words had caught Ye Tian's attention, Lu Liu was very pleased and felt as if he had found a lifeline. He then spoke at length, boasting about how perceptive he was and how unlikable the old man was.
Although Lu Liu's account was chaotic, Ye Tian understood the general idea.
If what he said was true, then the old man must undoubtedly be from the Blood Sect. His departure yesterday indicated that he had come specifically to assist Wang Weiyang. In other words, Wang Weiyang likely had connections with the Blood Sect and could very well be practicing techniques from both sects.
As for Lu Liu's other words, Ye Tian chose to ignore them directly. His intention was clear; he recognized the old man at a glance and then proceeded to insult him further. Half of his remarks stemmed from his own nature of self-aggrandizement, while the other half aimed to please Ye Tian, holding no real value.
"Benefactor, can I leave now..." Lu Liu observed Ye Tian nodding slightly in thought, secretly speculating that he might have hit the nail on the head.
"I told you, don’t call me benefactor randomly," Ye Tian said as he pulled out a dagger and examined it carefully.
"Benefactor!" Lu Liu exclaimed in terror and stepped back, but as soon as he did, his Achilles tendon was severed.
In pain, Lu Liu let out a wretched scream. At this moment, he could no longer care about anything else and struggled to crawl away.
Ye Tian swiftly followed, pinning him to the ground and coldly said, "I warned you not to call me benefactor randomly; this is your punishment."
"Spare me! Spare me!" Lu Liu shouted loudly, his voice more unbearable than that of a slaughtered pig.
"Spare your life is not impossible, but you previously spoke foul words against Xiaoshuang, so you cannot be lightly spared," Ye Tian replied before slamming the dagger into the ground and coldly added, "Handle it yourself."
...
"Ah!!" After a long while, a piercing wail echoed from the forest, marking the addition of another eunuch to the world.
