The roar was clear and resonant, filled with anger that was unabashedly radiating outward. Ye Tian was startled by the sound and woke up.
"It must be Thunderstorm arriving," Ye Tian said, slightly moving his body before leaning forward to take a look.
Avoiding the obstructing roof ridge, a sharp gaze directly met Ye Tian's eyes.
Ye Tian was taken aback by this unexpected eye contact and instinctively pulled his head back.
"Show yourself, friend. There's no need to hide any longer," Thunderstorm's voice came through, clearly directed at Ye Tian.
Ye Tian smiled wryly; Martial Unity Definition was indeed exceptional in perception. Even though he had made no sound, he still couldn't escape Thunderstorm's awareness.
Since he had been discovered, there was no need to continue hiding. Ye Tian stood upright on the roof ridge but remained silent.
The reason for Ye Tian's silence was simple: he had to pretend not to know Thunderstorm. It had to seem like a coincidence; otherwise, it would be hard to explain, especially since he had used the money of Thunderstorm's father and caused trouble for him.
At this moment, the sky had darkened, but it was overcast with no moonlight. Standing high up, Ye Tian also went unrecognized by Thunderstorm.
The two had crossed paths before; after the Martial Arts Selection Tournament over a year ago, Thunderstorm had visited the Cold Family for more than half a month. During that time, they had seen each other frequently. While they weren't exactly friends, they were at least familiar faces.
Due to poor visibility and Ye Tian's tattered clothing, Thunderstorm did not recognize him; he only vaguely felt that he had seen this person somewhere before.
"You've got some tricks up your sleeve," Master Lei whispered into Thunderstorm's ear.
Thunderstorm snorted dismissively at this remark and stared directly at Ye Tian, calling out loudly, "Friend, may I have your name?"
"Name unchanged and surname unaltered: Ye Tian," Ye Tian replied loudly while quickly analyzing the possible scenarios that could unfold next.
The so-called possible scenarios boiled down to two options.
First, Thunderstorm either does not remember him at all, or pretends not to remember him. In that case, the outcome for both would be a confrontation, and there would be no happy ending.
Second, if Thunderstorm recognizes him but, out of concern for appearances—whether genuinely or feigned—does not make things difficult for Ye Tian, this would be the most ideal outcome for Ye Tianxin. He is not afraid of confronting Thunderstorm; rather, if Thunderstorm can act this way, it indicates that his feelings for Cold Moon are deep enough that he would rather compromise his own father than offend Cold Moon's friends.
"Ye Tian..." Thunderstorm felt the name was familiar. After a moment, he suddenly clapped his hands and exclaimed, "Is it Ye Tian from Spirit Martial Town?!"
"That's right. Do you recognize me?" Ye Tian did not step forward to acknowledge him because the other party had not revealed his name yet; acknowledging him would expose them.
"It’s me! Thunderstorm!" The previous gloom surrounding Thunderstorm vanished as he leaped onto the roof.
"Thunderstorm?!" Ye Tian continued to act surprised, though he felt helpless.
With Skyward Martial Arts at his disposal, Thunderstorm was originally over ten yards away from Ye Tian but floated over effortlessly and gracefully.
When Thunderstorm landed on the roof, Ye Tian looked closely and saw that he still retained his handsome appearance—his brows like distant mountains and his eyes like bright stars; he truly was a striking figure.
"Indeed, it is Brother Lei," Ye Tian said with a smile as he walked forward.
However, Thunderstorm was not as calm as Ye Tian. In his memory, while Ye Tian was not particularly impressive in appearance, he at least had a spirited demeanor. Seeing him today in such a disheveled state made it hard to recognize him at first glance.
"Ye Tian, what happened to you?" Although surprised by Ye Tian's disarray, Thunderstorm carefully discerned the contours of his face and confirmed that this person was indeed Ye Tian.
"Sigh, don't mention it. What brings you here, Brother Lei?" Ye Tian asked knowingly.
At this moment, Master Lei and others below could not clearly hear the conversation between the two and began to speculate. Since neither appeared to be arguing nor fighting, it seemed more like a reunion, which puzzled Master Lei greatly.
"Zhen'er, stand up for your father!" Master Lei shouted anxiously from below.
Upon hearing this, Thunderstorm showed an awkward expression. He first glanced at Master Lei and then turned to Ye Tian. After hesitating for a moment, he smiled and said, "Ye Tian, you wouldn't be the one they say is bullying others too much, would you?"
Ye Tianxin, with a hint of hesitation, spoke to Thunderstorm. This indicated that he was weighing his words, but the fact that he ultimately chose to speak this way left Ye Tian somewhat perplexed. If he intended to provoke a fight, there was no need for such a joking tone. Conversely, if he was merely joking, then the hesitation and the phrase "too much" seemed unnecessary.
"Brother Lei, could it be that you..."
Ye Tian wanted to tell him the truth and ask if he was aware of his father's misdeeds, but before he could finish, Thunderstorm chuckled and pulled Ye Tian away from the rooftop.
"Father, this is my good brother I met in Spirit Martial Town." Thunderstorm unceremoniously brought Ye Tian before Master Lei.
"Uh... Heh... this..." Master Lei appeared confused, feeling both awkward and angry.
"Nice to meet you, Uncle Lei." Ye Tian smiled and cupped his hands in greeting. He understood Thunderstorm's intention: if neither of them mentioned it, the matter would simply pass.
"Ye Tian, how did you end up here?" Thunderstorm ignored the stunned lackeys and his father, turning to lead Ye Tian forward.
"Well, let's not talk about it." At Thunderstorm's question, Ye Tian suddenly recalled past events; vivid smiles flashed before his eyes, filling him with sorrow.
Thunderstorm was a clever person; even if he was curious, he wouldn't press for answers. He quickly changed the subject and asked, "By the way, why did you refuse the sect's invitation back then?"
Hearing this question made Ye Tian sigh. In truth, Thunderstorm's inquiry was not fundamentally different from the previous one. However, no matter how reluctant he was to answer, he couldn't keep deflecting the conversation; that would come off as rude.
"Xiaoshuang went missing..." After a moment of hesitation, Ye Tian revealed the truth.
"What?!" Thunderstorm exclaimed in shock, stopping in his tracks to look at Ye Tian and waiting for more details.
From Thunderstorm's earlier expression, Ye Tian saw no signs of pretense or exaggeration; it was clear that this news genuinely surprised him. Regardless of his reasons for being concerned, it was better than indifference. This warmed Ye Tian's heart as he briefly recounted the destruction of the Cold Family.
"This matter must not be known by Sister Ningyue," Ye Tian advised after finishing his story.
Thunderstorm nodded thoughtfully and then furrowed his brow before asking, "What about Wang Weiyang?"
Ye Tian had just briefly recounted the events, without going into too much detail about the Anti-Wang Family, which is why Thunderstorm had asked. However, Ye Tian was curious as to why Thunderstorm thought of Wang Weiyang.
"Do you know him, Brother Lei?" Ye Tian asked in confusion.
"I don't know him, just curious," Thunderstorm casually replied. He was unaware that Xuanyuan Changfeng had already told Ye Tian about Wang Weiyang's past.
"Oh." Ye Tian did not press further. He could roughly guess why Thunderstorm was asking about Wang Weiyang. A sect traitor who had received a "special pardon" like Wang Weiyang would be known to anyone from the Cloud Sea Sect. Moreover, during the last Martial Arts Selection Tournament, Wang Weiyang had been present, yet Thunderstorm had not confronted him. This was partly because he understood the principle that a strong dragon cannot suppress a local snake, and partly because he knew that Wang Weiyang possessed Blood Sect Martial Arts and did not recognize his ability to eliminate threats to his sect in a situation where he was outnumbered.
This matter might have always been a source of concern for Thunderstorm. Hearing that Ye Tian had single-handedly taken down the Wang Family made him feel somewhat embarrassed in comparison. However, this was merely Ye Tian's subjective guess; whether it was right or wrong remained uncertain.
"Ye Tian, may I ask where you are headed?" Thunderstorm changed the subject.
Upon hearing this, Ye Tian pointed north and smiled, "It's on your way; can you take me along?"
"You want to go to Cloudscar Peak?" Thunderstorm did not seem pleased; on the contrary, he appeared somewhat surprised.
"Why?" Ye Tian frowned and asked.
"Ye Tian, there's something I’m unsure if I should say," Thunderstorm hesitated for a moment before stopping again. From his expression, it seemed this matter was quite serious.
"Brother Lei, please feel free to speak," Ye Tian said earnestly with cupped hands.
"Our Cloud Sea Sect is the largest and strongest Martial Cultivation sect in Square Area of Divine Wood County for thousands of miles; you know this," Thunderstorm said as he looked at Ye Tian, still hesitating.
Ye Tian nodded. Although Thunderstorm's words carried a different implication, they were nonetheless true.
"In all of history, I've never heard of anyone refusing an invitation; Ye Tian, you are the first," Thunderstorm said with a complex expression that seemed to mix admiration with something else.
Seeing that Ye Tian remained silent, Thunderstorm continued, "Moreover, if you were simply refusing that would be one thing, but now you even wish to rejoin Cloud Sea Sect? That’s quite alarming..."
"Are you saying that I will attract hostility by doing this?" Ye Tian asked. After Thunderstorm's comment, he indeed felt something was off. While others flocked to the Cloud Sea Sect, if he could come and go as he pleased, wouldn't that invite a lot of unwarranted jealousy and mindless hatred?
"That's just a minor issue. What I really mean is that you might end up in danger..." Thunderstorm said seriously, without any hint of exaggeration or intimidation.
"Is it really that serious?" Ye Tian couldn't help but smile.
"Ye Tian, don't underestimate this. Just take my master for example; he would absolutely not tolerate such things happening," Thunderstorm said, gazing into the distance towards Cloudscar Peak, his brow furrowed.
"Oh? What if I have a letter from Senior Xuanyuan Changfeng?" Ye Tian noticed that Thunderstorm was not joking, so he took out an item from his pocket. This was a letter left by Xuanyuan Changfeng when they parted ways, intended to facilitate Ye Tian's future entry into the Cloud Sea Sect.
Upon hearing this, Thunderstorm's body shook slightly. Xuanyuan Changfeng was one of the Four Great Sect Masters of the Cloud Sea Sect, holding a position just below the sect leader. With his letter, everything would naturally be worry-free.
However, how could Ye Tian have the capability to gain such attention from someone like Xuanyuan Changfeng?
"Thunderstorm?" Ye Tian called softly when he saw Thunderstorm lost in thought.
"Oh... that's fine then. With this letter, there should be no problem. How about I take you back to Cloudscar Peak right now?"
