When Ye Tian fully woke up, the sky was already bright, and the wind and rain had stopped at some unknown time, leaving a fresh scent in the air after the rain in the forest.
"Yun'er!"
The first thought that crossed Ye Tian's mind upon waking was Yun'er. He vaguely remembered that last night, Yun'er had been shivering continuously; that chilling aura was something he could barely endure, let alone Yun'er.
"What’s wrong?"
As soon as he spoke, Yun'er's voice rang out beside him. Ye Tian turned to look and saw her had found a few wild fruits somewhere and was washing them in a puddle of rainwater.
"Uh... are you okay?" Ye Tian seemed to recall something.
Yun'er smiled sweetly and said, "Of course I'm fine. It's you who almost scared me to death."
"What happened to me?" Ye Tian asked curiously. He hadn't completely forgotten about last night, but at least he needed to temporarily "forget" it for a while.
"I gave you my first kiss, and you still want to play dead?" Yun'er feigned anger and then tossed him a fruit.
Ye Tian pretended not to hear and rubbed the fruit on his clothes randomly before examining it closely, as if he found great interest in this otherwise ordinary wild fruit.
"Hey, I'm talking to you." Seeing Ye Tian not responding, Yun'er scooped up a handful of rainwater and splashed it at him.
Ye Tian didn't bother to dodge; after all, he had already been drenched all night, so what difference would it make?
"I told you to stop pretending!" Yun'er quickly walked over and grabbed Ye Tian by the neck.
Ye Tian was munching on a fruit when Yun'er pinched him, causing the flesh to get stuck in his throat. He coughed repeatedly, looking quite embarrassed.
Both of them had been tormented by their own beast forms last night. Although they could fight and play around now, their physical condition was still extremely weak. Thus, under Yun'er's "attack," Ye Tian's pitiful appearance was not an act.
"Are you okay... I didn't mean to..." Yun'er felt guilty upon seeing this and patted Ye Tian's back to help him catch his breath.
"I'm fine, cough cough, I'm fine..." Ye Tian waved his hand and moved a little further away.
"Are you avoiding me?" Yun'er was taken aback; it seemed Ye Tian intended to distance himself from her.
"No, I just feel that..." Ye Tian wanted to say he felt sorry for Cold Frost, but the words got stuck in his throat.
Yun'er understood what he wanted to say, and her previously joyful expression instantly turned desolate. After a moment, she sighed softly and said, "You don't need to feel guilty; it was my initiative, it has nothing to do with you."
Hearing this made Ye Tian feel even guiltier. He clearly liked Yun'er but could never break free from the shackles of his heart. Moreover, last night, when Yun'er kissed him, for some reason, the strange sensations within him began to fade until his mind gradually regained clarity; it only took a few breaths.
However, their deep kiss lasted for a whole incense stick's worth of time. If Yun'er hadn't pulled back at the last moment, Ye Tian really didn't dare to think about what else they might have done.
"Yun'er!"
Ye Tian suddenly stood up, his tone very serious as if he had made some kind of decision.
"What is it?" Yun'er still looked dejected, her voice very low.
"I... I..." Ye Tian stammered, unable to say the words "I like you."
Yun'er didn't think much of it, assuming Ye Tian just wanted to say something apologetic, so she squatted nearby and sighed quietly.
Ye Tian struggled awkwardly for a long time, and finally, with a stomp of his foot, he chose to give up.
"Let's go back; Sister Ningyue is still waiting," Ye Tian said, his tone somewhat gloomy. His gloom stemmed from feeling unmanly, liking someone but lacking the courage to confess.
However, after a moment, that feeling faded away. He realized that his hesitation to confess was not due to fear, but rather guilt towards Cold Frost. If Cold Frost were here right now, he would never hide anything from her. Liking two people in one's lifetime is not wrong, but the premise is that one must fulfill the promises made to each person.
Regarding this point, Ye Tian believed he could do it. So he chose silence because Cold Frost was still missing. He could accept that he liked a woman at this moment, but he couldn't accept expressing it.
"Oh..." Yun'er replied dejectedly and then stood up to head towards the cave.
Ye Tian glanced at her with guilt in his eyes but ultimately held back from speaking and slowly followed her.
About half an hour later, the two returned to the cave's location. At this moment, Cold Moon and the others were all standing at the foot of the cave, seemingly discussing something.
"Sister Ningyue," Ye Tian called out from a distance but soon realized something seemed off.
Cold Moon and the others turned to look at them upon hearing his voice. Seeing that they appeared unharmed brought smiles of relief to their faces.
"Where did you two go last night? We were really worried," Duan Liu said as he quickly ran over and grabbed Ye Tian's shoulder tightly. After experiencing the incident with the Mission Board, his feelings for Ye Tian had deepened significantly.
"Nowhere special..." Ye Tian explained casually, trying to brush it off. After all, he couldn't let them know about the Crimson Dragon Golden Blood and Yun'er's Chill for now.
"Nonsense! A man and a woman alone in the deep mountains..." Duan Liu said disdainfully; he never thought before speaking. Seeing that both Ye Tian and Yun'er seemed fine after spending the night away raised questions about what they might have been up to. Moreover, it was common knowledge that Yun'er liked Ye Tian.
"Cough cough..." Cold Moon lightly cleared her throat. If she let Duan Liu continue, some inappropriate language might slip out. Wine Kid was still young, so she had to be careful about what she said in front of him.
"What's wrong with the deep mountains and old forests? Hurry up and tell me!" However, as if worrying brought about the very thing she feared, Wine Kid's eyes widened as he quickly ran forward, looking at Duan Liu with eager curiosity and great anticipation.
Ye Tian felt helpless upon seeing this, his face slightly reddening. To be honest, he wasn't really afraid of embarrassment; he was more concerned about tarnishing Yun'er's reputation.
However, Yun'er was clearly much more open-minded than Ye Tian. She walked over to Wine Kid with a smile and asked, "Do you want to know?"
Wine Kid nodded vigorously and said, "I do!"
"Want you head!" Accompanied by Yun'er's playful scolding, Wine Kid received a loud slap on the back of his head.
Wine Kid got along very well with Yun'er, and it seemed that whatever method Yun'er used had made her the second biggest nemesis to Wine Kid after Cold Moon.
Thus, even after being hit, Wine Kid didn't get angry; he just chuckled awkwardly, as if still wanting to ask more questions.
"Hey? Where's Brother Bai?" Ye Tian withdrew his gaze from the cave and confirmed that Bai Kuo was no longer there.
"He left," Luo Shanshan also came over, her tone quite displeased, as if complaining.
Ye Tian was taken aback by this and asked, "Left? Where did he go?"
"I don't know. In these deep mountains and old forests, he could get into trouble all by himself," Luo Shanshan said sarcastically while frequently glancing at Wine Kid.
Seeing this, Ye Tian seemed to understand a bit more and turned to Wine Kid, asking, "Big brother, you didn't get angry again, did you?"
Ye Tian and Wine Kid have a good relationship. Wine Kid is willful, so Ye Tian always jokingly calls him "big brother." Moreover, Wine Kid has a bad temper and often does things that frustrate others, which is why Ye Tian asked this question.
"Don't blame him," Cold Moon interjected, unable to stand Luo Shanshan's instigation.
"Heh, if not him, then who?" Luo Shanshan suddenly gained a lot of courage. Last night, she seemed angry but silent; today, she dared to confront Cold Moon directly.
"Shanshan...," Duan Liu stepped in between them to block their view, intending to mediate.
"Don't talk to me," Luo Shanshan shot a disdainful glance at Duan Liu, seemingly looking down on him.
Seeing this, Ye Tian felt a surge of anger. Duan Liu is his brother, and after more than a month of interaction, he had noticed some signs. Luo Shanshan didn't actually like Duan Liu; she liked Bai Kuo. However, Bai Kuo was interested in Cold Moon and completely disregarded her. Luo Shanshan was likely with Duan Liu just to get closer to Bai Kuo.
"Brother Duan, come here," Ye Tian waved at Duan Liu, who hesitated before approaching.
"Tell me what exactly happened," Ye Tian asked.
Upon hearing this, Duan Liu glanced at Luo Shanshan, then sighed and recounted the entire incident in detail.
After listening, Ye Tian looked seriously at Wine Kid, who felt a jolt as if struck by lightning under Ye Tian's sharp gaze and instinctively lowered his head.
In truth, while he might seem afraid of Cold Moon, when it comes to serious matters, he listens most to Ye Tian. It’s not fear; it’s a deep-seated respect and reliance.
Although Wine Kid didn’t understand why he felt this way, the feeling was undeniably real.
"Wine Kid, you started this matter; most of the blame lies with you. You must apologize to Brother Bai when you go back," Ye Tian softened his tone. After all, Wine Kid is just an eleven-year-old child; how much wrong could he really do?
Luo Shanshan let out a cold snort, seemingly full of disdain, as if to say: Stop pretending in front of me.
Duan Liu frowned deeply. He liked Luo Shanshan and understood her well. Ever since Bai Kuo left yesterday, she seemed to have thoughts of severing ties with everyone. The only reason she hadn't turned hostile immediately was that it wasn't safe outside. Now that the sky was bright and all enemies had been eliminated, there was no longer any threat, so she had no need to hold back.
"Shanshan, let me ask you something, do you..."
"That's right, I like Brother Bai. He's handsome and comes from a wealthy family. Even if he can't master great powers in the future, at least I can live a good life with him. Unlike you, just look at yourself! You keep pestering me; it's like a frog trying to eat swan meat. How annoying!"
Luo Shanshan vented her frustrations in one breath. She was truly ready to turn hostile. Though her words weren't particularly vicious, they struck Duan Liu like a sharp sword, piercing through his heart.
"Shanshan..."
Duan Liu wanted to say more but was stopped by Ye Tian's hand.
"You're just a loser; with someone like you, don't even think about..."
"Get lost!" Ye Tian coldly spat out the words. Although his voice wasn't loud, it carried an undeniable authority.
Luo Shanshan wanted to retort but when her gaze met Ye Tian's, no matter how much resentment she felt, she could only swallow it down. She had a strong feeling that if she said one more word, Ye Tian might not hesitate to snap her neck.
