The rescue of Duan Liu ended in failure, and not only that, Ye Tian was also implicated. The reason was that Cold Moon discovered the cloth bag that Ye Tian had been carrying at his waist for years by the riverbank.
Fortunately, Cold Moon had a higher level of trust in Ye Tian. After much explanation, the two managed to avoid physical punishment and exchanged some meat and vegetables from a nearby town for their lives.
According to the villagers, the nearest town was seventy miles southeast, called Luoma Market. If they set out now, they should be able to reach it by noon tomorrow.
Ye Tian and Duan Liu were happy to go. Firstly, they wanted to gather some information, and secondly, it was a good opportunity to buy a few fitting clothes.
On the way, the sky suddenly changed, and it started pouring rain. Duan Liu complained, "The village has food; why do we have to run so far to buy it?"
"The village has no rice or meat; all we eat are steamed buns. Everyone hasn't rested well these past few days. Don't you want to improve things?" Ye Tian replied as he plucked a wild grass by the roadside and played with it in his hand.
"That's true." Duan Liu nodded but then began cursing the terrible weather again.
As they walked and chatted, Ye Tian seemed completely unconcerned about the heavy rain. Duan Liu initially complained often, but as their clothes became completely soaked, he decided not to dwell on it anymore.
Thirty miles was nothing for them; before long, they had covered half the distance.
"Hey, didn't you say you have a fiancée? Why are you getting so close to Yun'er?" Duan Liu asked out of boredom and started gossiping.
Ye Tian glanced at Duan Liu but did not respond.
"Yun'er is a good girl; you need to take responsibility," Duan Liu insisted. Yun'er was already well-liked by everyone, and last night she saved Duan Liu's life, which directly led to his significant improvement in strength. How could Duan Liu not defend her?
"I haven't done anything to her; what responsibility do I have?" Ye Tian still refused to engage with him. However, despite saying this, he thought that after finding Xiaoshuang, he would have to give Yun'er an explanation no matter what.
Hearing this, Duan Liu stopped and grabbed Ye Tian's collar angrily. "Are you even speaking human language?"
Ye Tian was taken aback by Duan Liu's sudden outburst. He had always been the nice guy; how could he be so irritable today, filled with righteous indignation?
"Let go." Ye Tian reached out but was pulled by Duan Liu. His clothes were borrowed from the villagers and did not fit well, so when Duan Liu yanked him, two tears instantly appeared.
"Today, you better clarify things, or I won't let this go!" Duan Liu released his grip but stood firm, blocking Ye Tian's path.
Ye Tian felt utterly helpless. There were many things Duan Liu did not understand, and given his intelligence, even explaining it might not help him grasp the situation.
"What’s wrong with you today?" Ye Tian asked.
"I've always been like this; I can't stand those who abandon their responsibilities!" Duan Liu declared with righteous indignation.
"When have I ever abandoned my responsibilities?" Ye Tian was also a bit annoyed; Duan Liu seemed to have suddenly transformed into a different person, acting erratically.
Whoosh!
A wave of heat radiated from Duan Liu's body. As the rain fell, it evaporated instantly, turning into a puff of vapor.
"..." Ye Tian understood now; this guy still couldn't fully control the Crimson Flame Beast Blood, which affected his mental state and made him irritable. Ye Tian was just unlucky to encounter him at this moment.
"Don't try to argue; I’m watching you!" Flames seemed to ignite in Duan Liu's eyes as his left palm moved slightly forward, a flickering black flame dancing in his palm.
Ye Tian glanced over and thought that while this guy couldn't control the temperament of the Crimson Flame Ape, he had a quite refined mastery over Void Fire.
"What are you thinking? Arguing is useless; my fists aren't for show." Duan Liu pressed on aggressively, the flames in his palm flaring brightly and no longer flickering.
"Alright, alright, let's hurry up and get going." Ye Tian tried to sidestep him. The Blood Exchange and Marrow Transformation Technique was acting up like a spasm, and he felt powerless against it.
"Where do you think you're going?" Duan Liu stepped forward again, blocking Ye Tian's way once more.
"Heh heh..." Ye Tian could only smile wryly; facing this situation left him with no solutions at all.
"Don't laugh at me. I'll say it again, Yun'er is a good girl. You better..."
Just as he was halfway through his sentence, Duan Liu suddenly seemed to lose his energy, his body shaking violently, and his gaze became dazed.
After a moment, Duan Liu regained his composure and asked, "What are you doing? Why are you just standing here in the rain?"
With that, he ignored Ye Tian's astonished look and pushed past him, moving forward.
Since Duan Liu had turned around to stop Ye Tian earlier, he was now facing the opposite direction, heading back the way they came.
Ye Tian felt utterly helpless. This guy was not very bright to begin with, and now he had been affected by the Crimson Flame Ape's aggressive traits. What would they do in the future...
"Come on, why are you just standing there?" After walking a few steps and noticing Ye Tian wasn't following, Duan Liu turned back and shouted.
"This way." Ye Tian didn't want to explain; he simply pointed ahead and started walking.
Duan Liu looked at the scenery in front of him, then glanced back at what Ye Tian was pointing to. After a moment, he slapped his forehead and sheepishly followed.
"I think I just had a dream where we had a big argument," Duan Liu said as he hurried to catch up with Ye Tian.
"How coincidental; I had a similar dream too," Ye Tian replied without looking at him. He really didn't want to talk to him right now. It wasn't that he was annoyed; it was just that if he said the wrong thing, it might trigger Duan Liu's aggressive traits again due to the Crimson Flame Ape's influence.
"Really? Tell me about it; let's see if our dreams were the same," Duan Liu said with great curiosity.
"Shut up and keep moving," Ye Tian said as he walked briskly.
"Damn it." Duan Liu caught up again and added, "When I was young, my fifth grandmother told me that if two people have the same dream, it means they have a special connection..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Ye Tian cruelly interrupted him, "Who has a special connection with you? We're just two guys; don't be weird."
"You’re in such a hurry, I haven't finished speaking yet," Duan Liu shot Ye Tian a glance and said, "If it’s not a meeting of minds, then it must be a nightmare."
Duan Liu's tone was ominous, likely intending to scare Ye Tian, but upon seeing Ye Tian's lack of reaction, he found it quite boring and started to focus on the road ahead.
The rain continued to pour, having lasted for nearly half an hour, and there were less than twenty miles left to their destination, Luoma Market.
"I want to ask you something," Duan Liu couldn't hold back any longer.
"Go ahead," Ye Tian was pondering what kind of blood was inside Yun'er and how to effectively control Chill's torment over her.
"Haha, just don’t be unhappy with what I say," Duan Liu grinned mischievously and continued without waiting for Ye Tian's response, "You just mentioned two big men. I was wondering, are you a man now?"
"..." Ye Tian was speechless and ignored him.
"What I mean is, are you... still a virgin? Hahaha!" Duan Liu burst into laughter, clearly enjoying himself.
Ye Tian took a deep breath, then slapped his forehead, regretting that he hadn’t chosen to be beaten up by Cold Moon instead.
"Come on, it's not something shameful," Duan Liu said coldly at first but then quickly changed his tone to a sly one, "Just tell me."
"Tell you what? Do you believe I..."
At this point, Ye Tian suddenly became alert, his sharp eagle-like eyes cautiously scanning the surroundings.
Seeing this, Duan Liu quickly put away his playful demeanor and whispered, "Is there an ambush?"
Slowly shaking his head, Ye Tian pointed ahead beyond Hundred Zhang and raised his chin.
Due to the heavy rain creating a mist upon impact with the ground, visibility ahead was limited. Duan Liu focused intently for a while before saying, "Seven?"
"Eight." Ye Tian gestured with his hand and then walked towards the grassland by the roadside.
Duan Liu followed, and the two concealed themselves, waiting for the other party to arrive.
"Are they bandits?" Duan Liu asked.
"Probably," Ye Tian replied, continuing to focus his senses. The eight individuals exuded a murderous aura, and their Martial Origin Power was unabashedly radiating outwards. Among them, the strongest should be around the level of a Five-Stage Martial Artist.
"People from Huanggang Ridge?" Duan Liu asked again.
"Shouldn't be," Ye Tian answered.
"Then whose people are they?" Duan Liu pressed on.
This time, Ye Tian did not respond. Like Wine Kid, Duan Liu did not like to think much and would endlessly ask others when faced with a problem. Moreover, the main issue was that their questions often lacked sense. For example, how would Ye Tian know whose people they were?
"I think they are from Huanggang Ridge." After waiting for a moment and seeing that Ye Tian would not answer further, Duan Liu muttered.
"Why?" Ye Tian was taken aback. Duan Liu sounded so certain; he must have some clues or had conducted a thorough analysis, which was not typical of his style.
However, Duan Liu's next response left Ye Tian astonished. "My intuition is very accurate!" Duan Liu pointed at his head, looking quite pleased with himself.
"Ugh..." Ye Tian sighed helplessly and secretly vowed that if he engaged with Duan Liu again on this journey, he would let himself suffer from a sore tongue for three days.
"Big brother, let's take a break. We've run so far; I'm exhausted..."
"Rest? If you want to live, then don't rest!"
"Big brother, there's no one behind us..."
"Someone is damn late!"
"Big Brother, we really can't run anymore."
"Worthless!"
"You are a Five-Stage Martial Artist, but we are just First-Stage Martial Artists, please have some understanding for us..."
After a moment of silence, the so-called Big Brother spoke with a hint of pride, "Take a break. I told you to practice diligently; look, you're falling apart at a critical moment."
The group of Loyal Minions echoed in agreement, showering him with flattery about his might.
"It seems like a group of unfortunate Thieves," Ye Tian said with a light laugh.
"Should we take the opportunity to eliminate them for the people?" Duan Liu said, eager to try. Although he was repulsed by the blood of the Crimson Flame Ape, he did not reject the powerful strength that Crimson Flame Beast Blood could provide.
"Wait, it looks like they are being hunted down. They probably stole something valuable from a local power. Let's interrogate them first."
Without waiting for Duan Liu to respond, Ye Tian flashed and appeared in front of the group of Thieves.
"Where do you think you're going? Hand over the stolen goods and I'll let you go!" Ye Tian declared dramatically, his demeanor resembling that of someone pursuing stolen property. However, he forgot that his attire did not match that of a wealthy family's hired expert at all.
Suddenly, a gust of wind blew past, lifting the two torn strips of cloth on Ye Tian's chest that had been ripped by Duan Liu...
