I watched Jiangcheng's departing figure and sighed lightly. This child is still too kind-hearted.
I put down the book in my hands, stood up, and walked to the window, gazing at the brilliant night view outside as my thoughts drifted away.
I am not the original owner but a fan of Web Novels from the 21st century.
On a stormy night, I stayed up late reading novels as usual when a sudden lightning strike hit me. When I woke up again, I found myself transported into this novel, becoming the Malicious Mother-in-Law with a tragic ending.
I am familiar with the plot and know that the original owner ultimately faced betrayal and isolation due to her character flaws and excessive control over her son, leading to her tragic death in a car accident.
I do not wish to repeat the original owner's mistakes, so I have been working hard to change myself and alter her fate.
"Madam, you should rest now," Aunt Wang said softly as she entered with a cup of hot milk.
"Aunt Wang, thank you," I replied with a smile as I took the milk. "I'll go to sleep soon."
Aunt Wang nodded and turned to leave the room.
I took a sip of milk and my gaze fell on a family photo on the bedside table.
In the picture, I was smiling brightly alongside Jiangcheng, while Lin Jiaojiao nestled beside him, creating a warm and harmonious scene.
However, this was just the surface.
I know that Lin Jiaojiao is close to Jiangcheng not because of love, but because of the power and wealth of the Jiang family.
And I will never let her succeed.
The next morning, I specifically asked Aunt Wang to prepare a lavish breakfast, then had the servant call Jiangcheng and Lin Jiaojiao downstairs to eat.
"Mom, why are you up so early today?" Jiangcheng casually asked while eating breakfast.
"People get older and need less sleep," I replied with a smile. "You young people should sleep a little longer."
"Mom, you're not old at all; you still look very young," Lin Jiaojiao chimed in from the side.
I smiled but said nothing, my gaze subtly assessing Lin Jiaojiao.
Today she was wearing a light pink dress and had on delicate makeup, looking gentle and charming.
If I weren't familiar with the plot, I might have been deceived by her appearance.
"By the way, Jiaojiao, I saw a newly opened antique shop online yesterday. They say it has many rare antiques. Are you interested? We could go check it out together today," I asked casually.
"An antique shop?" Lin Jiaojiao's eyes flickered with a hint of panic but quickly masked it. She smiled and said, "Sure, I'm quite interested in antiques."
"Really? That's great! I was worried you wouldn't like it," I replied with a smile, my tone carrying a hint of probing.
"How could that be? I have some knowledge about antiques; I just haven't had the opportunity to engage with them before," Lin Jiaojiao said calmly. "I hope you can guide me more in the future, Mom."
"Of course, of course," I replied with a smile, though a glint of sharpness flashed in my eyes.
I want to see how long you can keep up this act.
After breakfast, I changed into an exquisite outfit and prepared to head out.
"Mom, are you going out?" Jiangcheng asked as he noticed my change of clothes.
"Yes, I have plans with Jiaojiao to visit some antique shops today," I replied with a smile.
"Oh, I see," Jiangcheng nodded. "Please be careful on the road."
"Got it. You just rest well at home," I said, patting Jiangcheng's hand before turning to Lin Jiaojiao. "Jiaojiao, let's go."
"Okay, Mom," Lin Jiaojiao responded with a smile, though a hint of shadow flickered in her eyes.
Lin Jiaojiao and I walked out of the villa together and got into the luxury car waiting outside.
As the car slowly drove away from the villa, I turned to look out the window, a meaningful smile curling at the corners of my mouth.
