I sat in the car as Aunt Wang closed the door and quietly asked, "Madam, about that pair of Blue-and-White Porcelain Vases you liked..."
I rubbed my forehead and replied calmly, "Just buy them at the price I mentioned."
"Understood," Aunt Wang responded and turned to handle the paperwork.
I closed my eyes, but the flustered expression of Lin Jiaojiao from earlier lingered in my mind.
What is this woman hiding?
After returning home, I instructed Aunt Wang to place the newly purchased pair of Blue-and-White Porcelain Vases in the most prominent spot in the living room.
"Madam, are you really going to give this pair of vases to Young Lady?" Aunt Wang asked with some confusion while arranging the porcelain.
I walked over to the sofa and sat down, picking up a teacup from the coffee table and taking a light sip before saying, "What? Do you think I'm being too deliberate?"
Aunt Wang quickly waved her hand and said, "Madam, you misunderstood. I just think... this pair of vases is quite valuable; Young Lady may not appreciate it."
I set down the teacup and smiled, saying, "It's fine if she doesn't appreciate it; she can learn over time. I'm doing this for A-Cheng's sake, hoping they can have more common topics to discuss."
Aunt Wang nodded and didn't say anything further.
I know that Aunt Wang must have many questions in her mind, but she is always perceptive and won't ask too much.
The next day, I specifically asked Aunt Wang to prepare a lavish lunch and invited Jiangcheng and Lin Jiaojiao to come home for a meal.
"Mom, why did you suddenly decide to invite us for lunch today?" Jiangcheng asked with a smile while eating.
I replied with a smile, "It's nothing special. It's just that it's been a while since we had a meal together, and I've missed you both."
Lin Jiaojiao chimed in, "Yes, Aunt, I've really missed your cooking, especially this Sweet and Sour Ribs dish. I can never get enough of it."
I looked at Lin Jiaojiao with a meaningful smile and said, "I'm glad you like it. Make sure to eat more."
After finishing the meal, I asked Aunt Wang to bring out the pair of Blue-and-White Porcelain Vases.
"A-Cheng, Jiaojiao, I just bought this pair of Blue-and-White Porcelain Vases a couple of days ago. I think they're quite nice, so I'm giving them to you as a wedding gift," I said with a smile.
Jiangcheng and Lin Jiaojiao were both taken aback, clearly not expecting such an expensive gift from me.
"Mom, this is too valuable; we can't accept it," Jiangcheng quickly said.
"Yes, Aunt, these vases look very precious; we..." Lin Jiaojiao also started to say, but I interrupted her before she could finish.
"A-Cheng, Jiaojiao, please don't refuse. This pair of vases is my small token of appreciation; just accept it," I said as I handed the box containing the vases to Jiangcheng.
Jiangcheng looked at me, then at Lin Jiaojiao, and finally took the box, saying, "Thank you, Mom."
"Jiaojiao, you should thank Auntie too," Jiangcheng turned to Lin Jiaojiao and said.
A hint of awkwardness flashed across Lin Jiaojiao's face, but she still smiled and said, "Thank you, Auntie. You are too generous."
I waved my hand and smiled, saying, "We are family; there's no need for thanks."
As I spoke, I turned to Lin Jiaojiao and asked, "Jiaojiao, didn't you say before that you like antiques? This Blue-and-White Porcelain Vase is an authentic Ming Dynasty Imperial Kiln piece. What do you think? Do you like it?"
Lin Jiaojiao's expression changed slightly, her eyes flickering for a moment, but she quickly concealed it and smiled, saying, "I like it, of course! This is Ming Dynasty Imperial Kiln porcelain; it's truly beautiful."
I smiled and said, "I'm glad you like it. I hope you can learn more about antiques so that you and A-Cheng can have more common topics in the future."
Lin Jiaojiao nodded with a smile and didn't say anything further.
I looked at Lin Jiaojiao and sneered inwardly.
This woman was indeed putting on an act.
She thought I didn't know; she really didn't understand antiques at all.
