"Why are you here?" Jiang Chen felt unwelcome upon seeing Lin Jingzhu. She had been absent at their classmate's wedding yesterday, but now she showed up for his grandmother's birthday. Since Lin Jingzhu and Jiang Chen were classmates in Junior High, she was also a classmate of Lin Xiaohui.
"I can call your grandmother 'Grandma' too. Am I not allowed to come to her seventieth birthday celebration?" Lin Jingzhu replied politely, though she was clearly annoyed by Jiang Chen's question.
Hu Yina then scolded, "Xiao Chen, I'm glad Jingzhu is here. You should have come with her."
With his grandmother saying that, Jiang Chen felt he couldn't say anything more. He knew Lin Jingzhu still wanted to reconcile with him.
Sure enough, after greeting others, Lin Jingzhu sat down next to Jiang Chen. "Jiang Chen, we haven't seen each other for half a year. You look much more spirited than before," she said softly.
Since Lin Jingzhu went to university, they indeed hadn't seen each other for over six months. During that time, Jiang Chen had practiced a few times and naturally looked more vibrant. However, Lin Jingzhu had become a university student and seemed even more beautiful.
"Jingzhu, you look even prettier! But I’ve told you before, our relationship can’t go back to what it was. You should find another boyfriend at university!" Jiang Chen replied seriously but quietly.
Lin Jingzhu felt helpless upon hearing this. "Aren't we still elementary and Junior High classmates? The bond of friendship from school should still be there, right?"
"Friendship? If you value that so much, why didn't you come to Lin Xiaohui's wedding yesterday?" Jiang Chen couldn't help but retort.
"Lin Xiaohui got married? How old is she?" Lin Jingzhu pretended not to know.
Jiang Chen knew she was feigning ignorance since Lin Jingzhu was also in their class group chat; she just hadn't spoken up. She must have seen the messages but chose not to attend due to knowing Lin Xiaohui's family situation.
"Yes, she got married. Her family is poor, and they chose to marry early to pay for her grandmother's medical treatment," Jiang Chen replied calmly.
Lin Jingzhu felt awkward continuing the topic and fell silent.
At this point, it was just past nine in the morning, and guests began arriving for the birthday celebration.
"Chairman Yu Fuguang from Fuguang Group has arrived to celebrate!" someone shouted at the entrance.
Jiang Jingsheng felt pleased upon hearing this; after all, this was the first notable guest to arrive.
"Brother Fuguang, thank you for coming!" Jiang Jingsheng greeted with a smile.
"I came early to support my brother and sister-in-law! Sister-in-law, here’s a little something from me; may you have blessings as vast as the East Sea!" Yu Fuguang said with a smile as he opened the gift box in front of Hu Yina, revealing a jade Buddha.
"Sister-in-law, I remember you are a Buddhist. This jade Buddha I acquired at an auction cost only a few million; please don’t find it too extravagant," Yu Fuguang added.
"It's too precious; I feel unworthy of such a gift," Hu Yina said with joy on her face as she politely responded.
Soon after, more guests arrived.
"Chairman Zhang Maosheng from Mao Sheng Group has come with his wife to celebrate."
Upon hearing this announcement, the elderly couple smiled and went out to greet them.
An hour passed, and guests began to arrive one after another.
"My guests are almost here!" Jiang Guangming suddenly exclaimed after receiving a phone call, and then he rushed out.
Ten minutes later, Jiang Guangming returned, leading a man dressed in a long robe, around fifty years old, with long hair and a long beard. This man was the Xuanmen Master, Xu Gaocai, known as Master Xu.
Master Xu's attire was completely at odds with the modern suits worn by the others in attendance. He carried a peach wood sword on his back, and his unusual appearance immediately drew curious glances from everyone present.
Jiang Chen also looked up to see this Xuanmen Master.
"Is this guy a con artist?" Lin Jingzhu couldn't help but chuckle.
"He's not a fraud; he has some real skills," Jiang Chen replied with a smile. Master Xu indeed possessed considerable ability, but unfortunately for him, it wasn't enough in front of Jiang Chen.
"Dad, Mom, let me formally introduce you to the Xuanmen Master, Master Xu. It took me quite some effort to invite him out of seclusion," Jiang Guangming said with a grin.
Jiang Jingsheng and Hu Yina exchanged slight smiles, but their expressions were filled with skepticism regarding Master Xu's capabilities.
Master Xu had genuine skills; his half-squinted eyes were deep and profound as he casually scanned Jiang Jingsheng and Hu Yina, sensing their doubts.
Since they questioned his abilities, he decided to demonstrate them to these ordinary folks. Without hesitation, Master Xu took out a stack of golden talisman papers and walked over to a nearby table. Everyone watched curiously, wondering what this eccentric man was up to.
To their surprise, Master Xu began folding paper cranes from the talisman papers. His skill in origami was so impressive that even experts would be astonished.
Soon enough, he had folded ten shimmering paper cranes. The onlookers were puzzled and even amused; surely Master Xu wasn't planning to use these paper cranes as birthday gifts?
"Mrs. Hu, these ten paper cranes are my gift to you. Although they can't compare to gold or jewels, I assure you they won't disappoint. This is called Paper Crane Birthday Celebration," Master Xu said as he finished folding the cranes and turned to Hu Yina.
At his words, laughter erupted in the room.
"Guangming, is this your grand gift? Using paper cranes as a birthday present is a bit stingy and childish," Jiang Guangming's sister couldn't help but laugh.
"Sister-in-law, don't be anxious," Jiang Guangming chuckled.
"It's just a few paper cranes; can they really turn into flowers?" Jiang Guangming's brother-in-law chimed in dismissively.
However, as soon as he finished speaking, they saw Master Xu making hand gestures in the air as if he were writing some runes.
"Rise!"
Suddenly, with both hands raised upward, the ten paper cranes on the table flapped their wings and took flight as if they were alive. They flew directly around Hu Yina in graceful circles.
Everyone was dumbfounded; this scene was too shocking for ordinary people. Even if it were magic, it couldn't be this real.
Hu Yina was also stunned. At seventy years old, she had never witnessed such a miraculous event.
Master Xu manipulated the paper crane from a distance. After the crane danced in the air for a while, Master Xu brought his hands together, and the paper crane suddenly ignited. Flames erupted, and the golden talisman paper turned into golden powder, leaving traces in the air. Eventually, this golden powder formed a character for longevity.
The golden character for longevity hovered in the air for more than ten seconds before dissipating.
After demonstrating this skill, no one regarded Master Xu as a charlatan anymore. Such techniques were simply unfathomable; everyone understood that this was definitely not magic but rather Xuanmen Daoist Techniques.
With his hands clasped behind his back, Master Xu scanned the faces of the onlookers. Seeing their astonished expressions, a proud smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.
