Zhong Kui's Diary
The old lecher finally couldn't hold back. I smiled as I walked up to him, "Mayor Xu, what can I do for you?"
"You'll call me after you send them back to the hotel; I've already made arrangements," Xu Qingyu said with a soft laugh. "It's just a bit of love, you understand."
I was quite curious about this unexpected Mayor Xu. Could he be a character from the Isolated from the World script? I was on high alert about everything, connecting everything to the script.
"Of course, of course!" I nodded and smiled in agreement.
Xu Qingyu gave me a meaningful glance and handed me a business card, lightly clearing his throat. "If you need anything in the future, contact me." With that, he rolled up the car window, and the Audi slowly drove away.
After dropping Master Cang off at the hotel, I realized that she had more than just one assistant. In the hotel where she was staying, she had a team occupying nearly half of the floor's rooms. As soon as I stepped out of the elevator, I saw seven or eight staff members waiting to welcome Master Cang back, speaking in Japanese. I almost thought I had arrived at a Japanese Adult Film shooting location. After her assistant explained a few things, Fatty and I made our way through the crowd to escort Master Cang to her room.
Once inside her room, her assistant handed me a business card and said softly, "This is Mayor Xu's card. Contact him later." Then she smiled and turned to leave, closing the door behind her.
What does this mean? Holding Xu Qingyu's card, I glanced at it; this card was different from the one Xu Qingyu had given me earlier. This one was an official card with a long list of titles, while the previous one only had a name and phone number. Clearly, the first card was a personal one.
Just as I was about to ask Master Cang something, I wondered if she could understand Mandarin. Fatty was also impatiently moving his lips beside me; with his limited Japanese vocabulary? All he could say was something like "let's go" or "what's up."
Master Cang looked at us with her beautiful big eyes and fluttered her lashes: "Please sit down; don't stand on ceremony. You can use my computer." To my surprise, Master Cang actually said this; although her Chinese wasn't very fluent, anyone who wasn't completely clueless could understand that she wanted me to sit down and use her computer.
What’s going on? Is this also part of Isolated from the World? A chill ran down my spine as I shook my head and quietly told Fatty to check around the room while I sat down in front of the computer. I logged into my QQ account, and there it was—Isolated from the World—online. I sent an emoji over but received no response after a while.
"It seems like you knew we were coming?" Feeling bored while sitting there, I casually asked Master Cang.
Master Cang explained in Chinese for half the time before I Understood. It turns out she came to mainland China to develop her career, and it hasn't been as smooth as imagined. Many companies are hesitant to cooperate fully because they can't grasp the intentions of higher-ups. They can do some promotional activities, but going on television media is something no one has done before. This time, the endorsement for the Online Game also faced many obstacles. Later, a significant leader said, "It's not unreasonable for Cang to endorse a game," and that's how Master Cang got her trip to Star City.
However, the endorsement contract came with a strange requirement: a verbal agreement that someone would stay in her room for one night after the event. At first, Master Cang thought I was just the executor of some hidden rules. When she saw me and Fatty enter together, she seemed uncertain—are these hidden rules even done in groups?
Fatty wandered around and came to my side, whispering in my ear, "There are three cameras and one listening device in this room. It's strange; these things are installed too obviously."
Cameras, listening devices, and the odd additional conditions of the contract, combined with Xu Qingyu's alluring demeanor, made me immediately think this was a trap targeting Xu Qingyu.
For officials like Xu Qingyu, having a mistress or scandal is quite common. Even if you report it, it won't shake their foundation unless the scandal causes a huge uproar, like photos of Master Cang and Xu Qingyu. Tsk tsk, with such photos, there's no need to think about the consequences; it would definitely lead to serious trouble, possibly even imprisonment.
This is another script—a script that could bring Xu Qingyu crashing down.
But what I can't Understood is what role I play in these several scripts of ‘Isolated from the World’. Why am I present in every script?
Deliberately sending me the Yang Guo'er video and using me to lure Lingfeng into a trap makes me a key figure in this script. But what do I represent in the script involving Xu Qingyu? A pimp?
Humans are strange creatures. I had met Xu Qingyu once at Yuhua Star City. Although it was somewhat awkward since we were acquaintances, seeing someone plotting against an acquaintance surely warrants a warning, right? Moreover, I subconsciously wanted to disrupt the ‘Isolated from the World’ plan.
I stood up and walked outside, took out the business card that Xu Qingyu gave me, and sent her a text: “There are cameras and listening devices in Master Cang's room. Are you still coming?”
After sending it, I went back into the room. Unexpectedly, two minutes later, Xu Qingyu called me. I had no choice but to step into the hallway to answer.
“Brother, why did you tell me this?” Xu Qingyu's voice sounded quite strange.
"Because I saw it, I told you, it's that simple." I replied calmly, but inside I felt like cursing. What does that even mean? Am I wrong for telling you this?
"Are you able to talk now?" Xu Qingyu suddenly asked.
"Yeah, it's fine!" I glanced around; the group of staff at the entrance had already gone into their respective rooms, leaving the place empty.
"Bro, do you think I lack the demeanor of a mayor, like I've never seen a woman before?" Xu Qingyu chuckled lightly.
"To be honest, it does seem a bit that way." Although I wasn't sure what Xu Qingyu meant, I answered honestly.
"As the mayor, do you think I lack basic common sense when it comes to defense and calculation? Yes, you caught me in Yuhua Star City earlier, but that was an accident." Xu Qingyu seemed to be talking about something unrelated to himself: "I've already sent someone to check Master Cang's room; I'm aware of the cameras and listening devices. At first, I thought you were trying to set me up. I was ready; as soon as you called me, I would have sent people in to arrest you for threatening and intimidating an official. That charge can be escalated infinitely; I'm not bragging!"
I took a deep breath; he wasn't exaggerating. In Star City, it would be easy for a mayor to eliminate a thug like me.
"That text you sent made you wander around the prison gates for a while, heh." Xu Qingyu laughed again. "Alright, let's leave today's matter here. Hmm, I'm still a bit unwilling! It's Master Cang's after all, haha!"
After hanging up the phone, my mind was in chaos. What does 'Isolated from the World' mean? If it weren't for a sudden thought crossing my mind, I might have already been at the police station by now.
Clearly, the cameras and listening devices in this room were installed by 'Isolated from the World.' But if he wanted to frame me, there were plenty of ways to do it; why tie it to Xu Qingyu specifically? Also, I felt that 'Isolated from the World' didn't really care about my script. It was as if I were just a thread connecting certain things together. What those things were, I wasn't sure. To put it in trendy terms, I felt like I was surrounded by a huge conspiracy.
"Ghost Brother!" Fatty called me from inside the room. I walked in and saw Fatty pointing at the computer. "There's a response!"
On the screen, 'Isolated from the World' sent a smiley face: "Manager Zhong, sorry to keep you waiting. You're in Master Cang's room now; tsk tsk, why is Fatty still beside you? You’re not planning to force yourself on his goddess in front of him, are you? Although that goes against the script, I admire your creativity."
As I watched the red light of the camera turn on again, I realized that 'Isolated from the World' had activated my computer's camera, and it was possible that the camera in my room had been turned on as well. I typed a response: "What do you want?"
'Isolated from the World' sent a surprised expression: "Oh, isn't this your own script? Have you not memorized your lines? Forgetting lines is one thing, but forgetting the plot makes me question your intelligence."
"Come on, I know you don't care about this script at all." I was a bit annoyed and couldn't help but voice my doubts.
"Tsk tsk, not bad, you've learned to think independently! But so what? You still have to follow my lead, right? By the way, let me send you a photo of Yang Guo'er to ease your longing." Immediately, 'Isolated from the World' sent a photo.
The background of the photo was a simple bedroom with just a bookshelf and a bed. There weren't many books on the shelf, maybe around ten. Guo'er was sitting on the bed, staring blankly at the bookshelf.
I casually opened someone's QQ and dragged Guo'er's photo over to send it.
'Isolated from the World' said, "Don't worry, this photo was originally meant for you. No need to worry about me deleting it. Since you care so much about Yang Guo'er, I won't force you to go to Master Shangcang. This script ends here; go home. I'll call you for the next steps. Until the new script comes out, just continue working at Golden Blade Advertising."
Then, the computer screen went black and shut down automatically.
I exchanged glances with Fatty and Noodles. Was that how the script ended? What did 'Isolated from the World' really mean? What new tricks would 'Isolated from the World' come up with next? And as for me, this Puppet, as long as Guo'er was in their hands, I could only follow their script step by step.
