Zhong Kui's Diary
Yang Zhou?
Isn't this guy from the Moon City Yang Family? How did he end up siding with Jiang Chengguang in Star City? Although the Moon City Yang Family has declined, it is still a branch of the Yang Family. Now that the Yang Family has allied with the Ling Family, and the Tang family is about to join them as well, they are all on the same side. How could he possibly ally with Jiang Chengguang?
To be honest, after hearing about Huang Zhiquan, I had already made up my mind that Jiang Chengguang and his crew must pay a price. Especially that culprit who severely injured Zeng Xian, he must not only die but also suffer greatly! However, upon learning it was Yang Zhou, I couldn't help but feel a pang of concern. After all, he is still part of the Guo Family. If I go after Yang Zhou, would it make things awkward for Guo'er? Should I just pretend I don't know his name and take him out first?
Caught in my thoughts, I didn't show any signs on my face and stepped outside to call Guo'er about this matter. Guo'er was equally astonished: “Yang Zhou? I haven't heard from him since his separation from Yang Zi. I suspect he is still on the run and doesn't even know we have reconciled with Li Feidao. How could he side with the Liu Family?”
Both Yang Zhou and Yang Zi barely escaped from under Li Feidao. After being separated, Yang Zi encountered me in Star City, living in constant fear. Fortunately, after reaching an agreement with Lou Wei, Yang Zi managed to escape danger and later returned to Beijing with Guo'er and others.
As for Yang Zhou, I had never met him before. Oh right, it seems that the Kaiyang Scroll from the Book of Life and Death is still in his possession.
Seeing that I remained silent, Guo'er asked over the phone: “What do you plan to do about Yang Zhou? He and Yang Zi are the only survivors of the Moon City Yang Family.”
Guo'er understands me well. With the incident involving Huang Zhiquan, there’s no way I would let Yang Zhou off the hook. So there was a hint of urgency in their tone; after all, Yang Zhou is also a survivor of the Moon City Yang Family.
“Let’s wait!” I said gloomily before hanging up.
After thinking for a moment, I called Lingfeng, informing him of the situation and asking him to help look into Yang Zhou's whereabouts. The Tang family will soon become a branch of the Ling Family, so this is also your concern.
Returning to the emergency room, I waited until Zeng Xian's surgery was completed. The doctor reported that one lung had been punctured but there was no longer any danger; he should avoid alcohol and smoking for two years or so.
I looked sympathetically at Zeng Xian, who was being wheeled into a hospital room. After briefing Aguang and others to inform me if they found any trace of Yang Zhou, I signaled for Fatty and Kong Xuan to head out with me.
After getting into the taxi, the three of us didn't say much. The earlier incident left us feeling a bit down. Fatty rolled down the window, and a gust of hot air rushed in. He stuck his head out of the window and shouted, "Ah!" The sound echoed down the entire street like a ghostly wail.
When we arrived at the entrance of Tongtong Toy Store, I stopped Fatty: "No way, if we go in now, we'll be carrying our emotions with us, and we'll end up arguing over nothing. Let's have a smoke outside first!"
Kong Xuan nodded in agreement: "Exactly, I'm still feeling a bit frustrated! How about this, Fatty? Tell us a joke; we need to laugh before we go in."
Fatty scratched his head and said, "Alright. There's a dog that sees a bone next to a pile of poop on the roadside. Do you think it eats the poop first or gnaws on the bone?"
What kind of joke is this? Is this even a joke?
Seeing that we weren't responding, Fatty continued, "If that dog is smart, it would pick up the bone and dip it in the poop before eating..."
Kong Xuan and I exchanged glances and caught a hint of amusement spreading at the corners of our mouths. Alright, that was a joke.
After forcing Fatty to tell us a few more jokes, the next ones were mostly inappropriate for children. If we were to censor those particularly vulgar keywords, there would be nothing left from Fatty's later jokes.
As I tossed away my cigarette butt and was about to enter, an angry voice shouted from beside us: "Hey! What are you doing? Throwing your cigarette butt in front of my store..."
Turning around, I saw an aunt glaring at us while holding a lunchbox. Wait, this aunt looks familiar; isn't she Aunt Liu who was scammed by Li Denglong?
"Hey? Is that you guys?" Aunt Liu recognized us as well and exclaimed in surprise.
Fatty quickly stubbed out his cigarette, glanced around nervously, and smiled: "Aunt Liu, is this store yours?"
"Not exactly. My daughter works here; the boss trusts her a lot. Basically, she manages this store," Aunt Liu lifted her lunchbox to show us. "Look, I'm just bringing her lunch!"
Is this Aunt Liu really Hao Zhitong's mother? I suddenly feel that this world is truly wonderful.
Looking at the time, it was already past six in the afternoon, and I couldn't help but ask, "I've only heard of lunch deliveries; this is my first time seeing a dinner delivery!"
Aunt Liu laughed and said, "There's no choice; it's a Delivery Van. Business is better in the afternoon and evening. Looking at you all, are you planning to go in to buy toys? We're all familiar here, so I'll give you the wholesale price."
We all smiled happily and replied, "That sounds great!"
As we walked into the store, Hao Zhitong looked up and saw us entering with her mother. She couldn't help but frown slightly, seemingly not understanding how we knew her mom.
"Zhitong, these are the three good people who helped me get back those two thousand yuan," Aunt Liu introduced us warmly to her daughter.
Good people? Your daughter probably doesn't think so. At least she doesn't have a good impression of Fatty.
Hao Zhitong was taken aback for a moment and then said, "Thank you all for that."
"Old folks just want their family to live well; that's why they can be easily taken advantage of by scammers," I chatted with Hao Zhitong for a bit before deciding to get straight to the point: "Since we're familiar, I won't beat around the bush. I actually have something I need your help with."
Hao Zhitong smiled and said, "As long as it's something I can help with, no problem at all!"
I pointed at Kong Xuan and explained, "This relative of mine is from Yuntai County. He also wants to start a Delivery Van business at home. We've been wandering around Star City for quite a while and think your business is the most unique and well-run. We’d like to ask you for some advice on where you source your goods and what advantages you have in pricing."
On the surface, my words seemed illogical; competitors are usually enemies. Who would take the time to guide their rivals? However, I wasn't worried at all for three reasons: First, Yuntai County is over two hundred kilometers away from Star City, so there's no competition; second, we just helped Aunt Liu recover two thousand yuan, so that favor is still fresh; third, although she has always managed this store, she isn't the owner. With these three points in mind, I wasn't afraid that Hao Zhitong would refuse me. It also conveniently explained why I came here with Fatty before—to scout out the place.
Kong Xuan chuckled as well: "Right now in our county town, there isn't a decent Delivery Van. The most we have is a counter inside a supermarket. There's definitely profit to be made here."
I couldn't help but secretly give a thumbs up to Kong Xuan. This guy was so smooth in his conversation, and his accent carried a strong Yun Tai flavor. Why didn't he go into the film industry?
Hao Zhitong naturally knew all about this, as she was responsible for the inventory and sales in the store. She didn't hold back and shared some insights about the Delivery Van with us. Kong Xuan listened attentively, nodding along, and even kept asking relevant questions. It would be such a waste of talent if he didn't enter the film industry; he truly deserved the Golden Horse Award for Best Actor.
"How much is this Mask?" Kong Xuan asked, pointing at the Mask displayed in the window.
"This one? The wholesale price is two dollars and fifty cents," Hao Zhitong said, glancing at me and Fatty with a slight smile. She had just sold us two for fifteen dollars, making a neat profit of ten bucks.
"Where did you get this stock? My goodness, they sell for twenty-five dollars each in our county! They only gave you a five-dollar discount after flattering them, and it feels like we still owe them a favor!" Kong Xuan exclaimed, clearly expressing his dissatisfaction.
"I'm not sure. These Masks were all sourced by our boss," Hao Zhitong said apologetically, shrugging at Kong Xuan.
"Can you give me your boss's contact information? Haha, I know this request is quite unreasonable, but just think of it as supporting economic development in remote areas!" Kong Xuan smiled somewhat obsequiously. Motherfucker, I couldn't stand it anymore; how could this guy act so convincingly?
"I don't know either! I've never met our boss. I applied for this job online, she called me to hire me, and after discussing some matters, she never managed the store again. I figured out where to source products on my own," Hao Zhitong said anxiously, probably worried that we might misunderstand her reluctance.
What she didn't realize was that we had known from the start that she didn't have her boss's contact information. This was meant to instill a sense of guilt in her so that whatever we asked next would be answered in detail. Who in the underworld needs academic qualifications? This is applied psychology.
"Oh, I see. So you don't know where to get these Masks?" Kong Xuan looked quite disappointed.
"Wait a moment," Hao Zhitong said as she pulled out a stack of receipts from her drawer. After flipping through them, she pulled out one and placed it in front of us: "This supply order has contact details on it. Look, Yuecheng Art Exhibition Center, sixth floor, shop 6-5, Children's Paradise."
"Alright, I'll go check it out. By the way, if I mention your name when I contact them, will there be any discounts?" Kong Xuan asked sheepishly while scratching his head.
"If it's this store, I'm not familiar with it at all. You might as well mention our boss's name—Ding Zi—maybe you can get a discount," Hao Zhitong said with a smile as she handed her business card to Kong Xuan. "As for other channels, mentioning my name should get you the best wholesale price."
After chatting for a while, we couldn't gather any more information about Ding Zi, so the three of us said our goodbyes and left.
"How about it? Should I go to Moon City and stock up on goods?" Kong Xuan seemed still immersed in the play.
"Go ahead, go ahead! You'd better hang up a bunch of Bull-Headed Horse-Faced Masks in your temple!" Fatty punched Kong Xuan playfully. "Honestly, when you were acting opposite that beauty, did you feel dizzy?"
Kong Xuan was taken aback. "Why would I feel dizzy?"
Fatty laughed. "Because it's so overwhelming!"
While the three of us were laughing, the phone rang; it was Lingfeng calling.
"What's up, Ling?"
"Zheng Nan, I found out why Yang Zhou allied with Jiang Chengguang and is hunting down Zeng Xian."
