Zhong Kui's Diary
My first reaction was to push Guo'er aside, blocking An Ran's attack with my left hand while my right hand pushed towards An Ran's shoulder, shouting, "An Ran, what are you doing?"
At the same time, I was filled with confusion. An Ran's strike was fierce and her movements were strange; she looked just like a martial arts master. But she had always been a weak girl who couldn't even harm a chicken.
An unbelievable thing happened. An Ran actually paused in mid-air as if a rope was holding her up. Although I dropped out of high school, I knew this completely defied the laws of physics. It was precisely because of this pause that my block missed entirely.
After avoiding my block, An Ran charged at me again. I could only dodge backward, kicking towards An Ran's chin with my left leg.
An Ran smiled lightly, her fingers turning downward to jab at my thigh. Cursing under my breath, I wondered when this girl had become so skilled in Kung Fu. Just as I was about to evade, an old injury on my right leg flared up, leaving me unable to exert any strength. In that instant, a sharp pain shot through my left leg as her fingers dug into my thigh. I stumbled and fell backward to the ground, blood gushing from my leg.
I quickly pressed both hands against the wound on my thigh, while An Ran flicked her hand in the air, blood splattering everywhere. With a cold laugh, she opened her fingers again and swiftly jabbed towards my chest.
With injuries old and new on my leg preventing me from dodging, I could only watch helplessly as An Ran's fingers came at me.
"Don't!" I heard Guo'er's shout beside me, followed by a figure leaping forward to take the hit from An Ran.
It was Guo'er!
Guo'er had recklessly rushed over to block that strike for me.
"Crack!" That was the sound of fingers piercing into flesh.
"Pop!" That was the sound of fingers being pulled out.
Guo'er’s body slumped softly into my arms, her face twisted in pain but more so in sorrow.
I felt as if I had been electrocuted, my gaze blankly lowering as I stared at the five bloody holes in Guoer's chest, blood oozing from them.
In that moment, time seemed to freeze.
I opened my mouth to scream loudly, but all that came from my throat was a series of choking sounds, unable to produce any real voice.
I reached out to cover the gushing wound that was pouring blood, but my whole body had stiffened, and even my fingers couldn't move.
I didn't know how long this moment lasted; I only knew that my heart felt as if it were being stabbed by a dozen daggers, the pain penetrating deep into my bones. It was as if several violent hands were tearing at my insides, the agony tearing me apart.
"Zheng... Nan..." Guo'er looked at me with a dazed expression and managed to call out weakly.
This single utterance pulled me back from that frozen state, and I roared, "Guo'er!"
I tightly embraced Guo'er in my arms with one hand while pressing down hard on the bleeding wound with the other, continuously shouting, "Guo'er! Guo'er!"
"Hahaha!" An Ran let out a triumphant laugh, surprisingly stopping his attack. He took two steps back, turned, and ran toward the edge of the rooftop. As he approached the edge, he leaped into the air and then bizarrely stopped mid-air, turning back with a smile. "I'll come find you again!" A flash of silver light passed by, and he disappeared into the air.
"Zheng... Nan..." Guo'er called out to me again, forcing a smile as if she wanted to say something. When she opened her mouth, a large amount of blood gushed out.
"Guo'er, this is the hospital; you're fine, you're fine!"
"Zheng... Zheng... Nan... I'm afraid... I won't make it... I still want... just now I wanted to ask you when... you would come home with me... to meet... my parents..." Guo'er opened her mouth wide, her gaze hazy as she looked at me.
"I'll go right away! Okay? Guo'er! Don't scare me! Guo'er!" As I shouted hoarsely, Guo'er's eyes slowly closed, and there was a faint smile at the corner of her mouth.
"Guo'er! Guo'er! Don't scare me! I'm calling for help!" Trembling, I took out my phone; my hands were covered in blood. No matter how much I swiped, I couldn't unlock the screen.
"Damn it!" I cursed angrily and wiped the blood off the phone screen onto my clothes. After cleaning my hands on the back of my shirt a few times, I finally unlocked the screen.
I quickly pressed Fatty's number. As soon as it connected, I shouted into the phone, "Hurry to the rooftop and call for an ambulance! A stretcher! Come to the rooftop!"
Fatty responded with an urgent tone on the other end, "What happened? Ghost Brother, what's going on?"
"Hurry up!" I hung up the phone directly.
Lowering my head, I tightly embraced Guo'er, resting my chin on her forehead, murmuring repeatedly, "Guo'er, it's okay, hang in there! It's okay! It's okay..."
Before long, Fatty rushed in carrying a stretcher with two doctors. Upon seeing the situation, all three were taken aback and didn't ask much. They instructed the doctors to lift Guo'er onto the stretcher, and the doctors hurriedly carried her downstairs. Fatty pulled me up, and I felt a sharp pain in my leg bone; I stumbled and nearly fell. Without hesitation, Fatty picked me up on his back and quickly followed the two doctors.
After watching Guo'er being pushed into the emergency room, I asked Fatty to set me down on a bench outside.
Fatty anxiously said, "You have several big holes in your leg; it needs to be bandaged!"
"Motherfucker, don't you know to get a doctor to bring some bandages?" My mood was terrible as I shouted at Fatty.
With no other choice, Fatty quickly called for a doctor who pushed a cart over. The cart was filled with various medical supplies and medications for treating injuries. The doctor seemed quite disapproving of my behavior but held back due to Gu Qingyun's influence. After a moment, he bandaged my thigh and advised me not to move around too much before pushing the cart away.
Xiao Qingcheng also learned about the situation and limped over. The three of us sat silently on the bench outside.
After a while, I briefly recounted what had just happened. Both were extremely shocked; Fatty's face was filled with disbelief. "This was done by An Ran? And she jumped into the air and disappeared?"
I nodded without saying anything further, chain-smoking while occasionally glancing at the indicator light above the emergency room door.
Guo'er, you mustn't be in trouble!
I don't know how much time passed when suddenly the light went out. I tossed aside my cigarette butt and stood up; a sharp pain shot through my thigh, causing me to lose my balance and lean to the side.
Fatty quickly supported my shoulder and said, "Take it easy!"
I let out a sound from my throat, signaling Fatty to help me move forward.
The emergency room door opened, and a masked doctor stepped out. Upon seeing us, he removed his mask and cleared his throat. "Who is the patient's family member?" As he spoke, there was a hint of regret in his eyes.
I caught that fleeting expression clearly, and an ominous premonition arose in my mind, growing like a poisonous weed.
Could it be that Guo'er...?
Did Guo'er not make it...?
My throat was roaring, yet I couldn't make a sound.
"This is her family member!" In a daze, I heard Fatty shout at the doctor.
"We've done our best..." The doctor's low voice sounded like thunder, exploding in my ears.
I shook off Fatty and rushed forward, grabbing the doctor's clothes, gritting my teeth and saying, "What do you mean?"
"The patient's injuries are too severe, she has lost too much blood. I'm sorry, sir, we truly have done our best!" The doctor was accustomed to this situation and did not flinch at my threat; he looked at me calmly.
I pushed the doctor aside and strode toward the emergency room. Fatty tried to help me but was also shaken off. The pain in my leg seemed to have vanished as I pushed open the emergency room door and immediately saw Guo'er lying on the Operating Table.
My mind went blank; everything and everyone around me seemed to vanish. It felt like the entire world consisted only of me and Guo'er.
I stepped closer and crouched down, trembling as I reached out to gently touch Guo'er's face. My fingertips slowly slid down from her delicate brows. Her slightly furrowed brows, her charming nose, and the hint of a satisfied smile at the corners of her mouth made it seem as if she were merely sleeping, afraid that any sudden movement would wake her.
Staring blankly at her exquisite face, various memories flooded my mind.
—————— "What are you doing here?" I turned in surprise to see a pure and beautiful face before me...
—————— "Aren't you going to perform a ritual? Why did you come here?" She looked lovely when she smiled, her eyes crescent-shaped, her nose slightly wrinkled, and the smile spreading across her face like ripples...
—————— "I am the private doctor of the Jin Family, my name is Yang Guo'er!"...
—————— "This song is one my mother taught me. Isn't it nice?" Yang Guo'er tilted her head to look at me with a playful smile...
—————— "The air conditioning at home is broken, so I came here to enjoy the AC!" Guo'er smiled sweetly at me, her cheeks flushed; under the lights, she was stunningly beautiful...
—————— Seeing my dazed expression, Guo'er smiled slightly, nestled her head against my chest, and softly said, "You idiot, why won't you let me in?"...
……
Countless fragments, like scenes from a movie, continuously surfaced in my mind. Each fragment contained a shadow of Guo'er—some pouting, some smiling lightly, some surprised, and some playful… All the countless Guo'ers finally converged into one Guo'er, the one who leaped into my arms and then slowly fell, the one who bore pain yet had a touch of sadness, with a hint of a smile at the corner of her mouth…
“Ah…” I shouted, spitting out a mouthful of blood. Everything went dark before I collapsed onto Guo'er.
I don't know how long it had been when I slowly woke up, finding myself lying on a hospital bed. Fatty and Xiao Qingcheng were looking at me from either side. When they saw me wake up, both sighed in relief.
“Zheng Nan, I know you are very sad, but… life still has to go on,” Xiao Qingcheng said, her gaze filled with pity.
Fatty stammered for a moment before managing to say, “Ghost Brother, please accept my condolences!”
I stared blankly at the Flower Board, completely ignoring the two of them.
A conflicted expression appeared in Xiao Qingcheng's eyes. Finally, she seemed to make a significant decision and cleared her throat lightly. “Zheng Nan, actually… you can save Sister Guo.”
