Zhong Kui's Diary
Moon Demon Heir?
What is this Moon Demon Heir?
“Moon Demon?” I heard Kong Xuan’s voice sound somewhat unnatural.
I looked at Kong Xuan in surprise, only to see her face slightly pale.
“She is the Moon Demon Heir, not the Moon Demon. Pay attention,” I couldn't help but remind Kong Xuan. Could Li Feidao and Li Tama’s flying daggers be the same thing?
After my prompt, Kong Xuan finally came to her senses and frowned as she scrutinized An Ran: “So you are the Moon Demon Heir? How did you end up possessing An Ran?”
“I originally wanted to possess Yang Guo'er, but unfortunately, An Ran picked it up first!” Hearing An Ran refer to herself as ‘An Ran’ felt quite strange to me.
The scene in the elevator at the Moon City Hotel suddenly came back to me. An Ran had found that crescent shell under Guo'er's feet, and recalling the crescent-shaped mark on An Ran's arm during this time, I couldn't help but exclaim, “You are that shell?”
“The shell was just my residence; the real me has already possessed An Ran!” An Ran said coldly. “Didn’t you see that my scar disappeared in the hospital? The scar disappearing was when I fully merged.”
What is happening in this world? Why are there so many possessions? Starting from the Jin Family’s Red Shadow Incident, where Li Chao was possessed by Qing Qiu in the Detention Room, then in the Mask Case, six Spirits possessed people… and now another Moon Demon Heir emerges, also possessing someone. Is possession so popular?
“So what do you really want?” My anger flared when I heard that this Moon Demon Heir originally wanted to possess Yang Guo'er.
“Zheng Nan, I just want to have some fun with you!” An Ran said indifferently, as if she were merely suggesting having a meal or tea.
“Have some fun? Uh, this strange request is a first for me,” Kong Xuan exclaimed in surprise, while I was completely baffled.
“What do you mean by that?” I demanded angrily.
“Do I need to be more straightforward? Should I say ‘let’s have sex’? I'm just interested in your Yin-Yang Physique. You can think about it; after we’re done, we can go our separate ways. I initially wanted to take you away, but unexpectedly, Yang Guo'er rushed in and caused an accident!” An Ran spoke with an unruffled tone, as if she had merely stepped on an ant.
"You must be dreaming!" I spat.
"I forgot to tell you something." A sly glint suddenly appeared in An Ran's eyes. "Are you trying to preserve Yang Guo'er’s body and find a way to revive her?"
"How do you know?" I asked in surprise.
"How I know is not important. What matters is that when my hand was pulled away from Yang Guo'er, I took a strand of her consciousness with me. This means that even if you find the miraculous elixir for resurrection, without this strand of consciousness, you can only revive a vegetable," An Ran said with a smug smile.
"Go to hell!" I pulled out my gun and fired several shots at An Ran.
An Ran had already started to prepare when I drew my gun. As I pulled the trigger, she flickered and vanished into thin air, while several bullets passed through the wall of the room without any obstruction.
Kong Xuan covered his head and cursed loudly, "Zhong Zhengnan, what the hell are you doing? Don't shoot recklessly! Luckily this is a wooden wall; if it were brick or concrete, the bullets could bounce back and kill someone."
A ripple appeared in the air, and An Ran reappeared in front of us, sneering, "You think you can hurt me like this?"
Kong Xuan immediately looked unconvinced and huffed, "Feeling pretty impressive, huh? If you're so tough, don't hide!"
An Ran looked disdainfully at Kong Xuan. "What skills do you have? Show me!"
Kong Xuan chuckled and brought his hands together; a red sphere of light suddenly expanded in his palms. He pushed the sphere forward and shouted, "Reversal of Aging, Aging."
The red sphere burst in mid-air, sending countless red Starbursts flying rapidly toward An Ran.
Strictly speaking, this red Starburst was far slower than a bullet from a gun. To put it bluntly, my spit could travel faster than this red light. Yet it was precisely this not-so-fast red Starburst that left An Ran with no way to dodge. With hissing sounds, all the red Starbursts drilled into An Ran's body.
An Ran's expression changed as her body flickered several times, seemingly trying to use the same trick again. However, after several attempts, she failed to become invisible.
Ah ha! Kong Xuan's spell really worked.
"Why are you just standing there? Shoot!" Kong Xuan shouted at me.
It was only then that I reacted, aiming the gun at An Ran's abdomen and pulling the trigger. This body still belonged to An Ran, so I couldn't shoot at her head.
"Click!" The sound of the firing pin hitting an empty chamber echoed.
Damn! No bullets left! I had just pulled the trigger repeatedly at An Ran, and I had emptied the entire magazine!
In a moment of desperation, I raised the handgun and smashed it down, hitting An Ran in the chest with a thud. The gun bounced back and fell to the ground. An Ran seemed to feel some pain as she frowned slightly, forcing a smile. Her lips moved, and suddenly a bright light erupted; she began to fade away.
"Trying to run?" Kong Xuan yelled, pointing his Spell at her. Various Spells flew toward An Ran—fireballs, wind blades, ice daggers, and lightning. These Spells didn't seem to affect An Ran much but made her extremely flustered.
Seeing Kong Xuan enjoying himself, I rushed forward and kicked An Ran's leg with all my might. I heard a crack as her leg bone broke, but my foot also throbbed with pain. Damn it, action and reaction are equal; ancient wisdom is not wrong.
"I'll come find you again, Zheng Nan!" An Ran said through gritted teeth, still managing a strange smile at me. "It's just a little fun; think of it as a Health Treatment. At worst, I'll just learn some service skills..."
Before she could finish her sentence, An Ran completely vanished into thin air, leaving behind only a broken door and a few bullet holes in the wall. The room was quiet again.
"Did she get away?" I squatted down, rubbing my foot and asked Kong Xuan.
"She can't run far! This idiot still wants to show off her skills but ended up being tricked by me... Ugh! I mean, I was clever enough to fool her. Heh heh, anyone affected by Aging won't recover for at least ten months," Kong Xuan said proudly.
"Then let's hurry up and chase her?" I stood up and shook my foot; it was fine—I could still walk.
"Chase? Where do we chase to?" Kong Xuan looked at me in disbelief.
"Huh? Didn't you just say she can't run far?" I pointed at him angrily and asked, "You’re not telling me you were talking nonsense just now?"
"Her not being able to run far is different from me knowing where she is! It's two different things! You lack culture and don't know fear; you lack knowledge and don't know shame. Did Master Cang teach you your language skills?" Kong Xuan picked up the handgun from the ground and handed it to me. "You go ask Lingfeng for more bullets while I go find Fatty for An Ran's bag."
I can understand why you want me to find Lingfeng for bullets, but what do you need An Ran's bag for?
Seeing my confusion, Kong Xuan excitedly explained, "Just now, An Ran was at that Crescent Shell, which is where she lives. So, there must be her scent inside that shell. As long as I can obtain her scent, with my Super Invincible Tracker, I can find her no matter where she runs, even if she digs three feet underground."
"Super Invincible Tracker?" I was even more puzzled.
"Let me show you something!" Kong Xuan took out a Tablet, swiped a few times, and pulled up a map application. "Look, this software is something I created—well, I funded someone to make it. As long as I have her scent, unless she can run to the moon, I can find her anytime!"
"She clearly stated that she's a Moon Demon! Who knows, she might actually fly to the moon," I joked.
...
Next, we went our separate ways. I went to find Lingfeng for bullets. I initially thought he had taken the gun and bullets from the police station, but he looked at me with a mix of amusement and frustration: "Every bullet in the police station is recorded. How could I give you any? This gun was obtained through unofficial means. If it's just bullets you need, it should be easier; I'll get them for you tonight."
Around ten o'clock in the evening, I received a call from an unfamiliar number—it was a delivery service. After confirming my address, about half an hour later, someone knocked on my door. Looking through the peephole, I saw a large man wearing a mask and sunglasses.
I opened the door, and the man gruffly asked, "Zhong Zhengnan?"
I responded with a slight acknowledgment.
The man handed me a bag and turned to leave.
Hey, why are you leaving so quickly? At least have some tea or smoke a cigarette.
Back in my room, Kong Xuan shouted loudly, "Three Sevens and a Pair of Nines, do you want it?"
"Pass!" I sat back down and took out the contents of the bag—neatly arranged magazines of bullets; there must be several hundred rounds. Shouldn't I ask Lingfeng for a Submachine Gun? The magazine capacity of a Submachine Gun seems to be much larger than that of a handgun.
"Three Century Eggs and a Pair of Tens!" Fatty threw down five cards.
I first replaced the magazine of my pistol, then put all the remaining bullets into the Spatial Bag. I held the gun and gestured a few times, making 'biu', 'biu', 'biu' sounds, and instantly felt a surge in my sense of safety. After securing the pistol, I picked up the poker and asked Kong Xuan, "Fatty gave you that shell too, how do you plan to cast the spell?"
"It's not time yet, why the rush!" Kong Xuan turned to Fatty and said, "Play your cards!"
Fatty raised his hand high and tossed the cards onto the table: "Pair, qqkk!"
Kong Xuan raised his eyebrows: "You motherfucker, you just played three queens with a pair of tens, and now you're playing qqkk again. Are you the Gambling God?"
...
Around twelve o'clock, Kong Xuan checked the time and tossed his cards aside: "Alright, let's start casting!"
He swept the poker off the Coffee Table and placed the shell in the center of it. Then Kong Xuan took out a wooden box from his pocket. The box was quite antique, with intricate patterns on top that I had never seen before.
Kong Xuan opened the wooden box, and surprisingly, a mosquito flew out—slightly larger than an ordinary mosquito.
After flying out, the mosquito circled around Kong Xuan once before landing on his palm. Fatty and I watched closely as the mosquito began to suck Kong Xuan's blood; we could even see its belly swell from feeding on fresh blood.
As the mosquito's belly expanded, it started to become blurry. Finally, when it flew up and landed on the tip of Kong Xuan's nose, it had transformed into a nearly transparent shadow. If Fatty and I hadn't been staring at this mosquito all along, we would never have guessed that the barely visible shadow on Kong Xuan's nose was a mosquito.
