Zhong Kui's Diary
Youdi picked up her space jade pendant and took out a crystal-clear jade bottle from inside. A swirl of golden mist was coiling around the bottle's opening. I had seen this golden mist before; it was how the Hundred Flowers Dissolution Pill was packaged when I handed it to Kong Xuan. Kong Xuan referred to this as the Tightening Spell, specifically used to seal important items and prevent them from coming into contact with air, which could cause spoilage.
After reciting a couple of incantations, Youdi dispersed the golden mist at the bottle's opening and poured out a purple pill, about the size of a glass marble, which rolled around in Youdi's palm. Soon, a strange fragrance wafted through the air, instantly making my stomach growl and overwhelming me with cravings for food.
I took out a sausage, tore off its plastic wrapping, and started chewing on it. Xiao Qingcheng and Youdi both looked at me with strange expressions. I paused for a moment before pulling out two more sausages and handing them to them: "Remember, you both owe me a favor!"
"I have my own!" Both of them rolled their eyes and pulled out snacks from their own Spatial Bags. For a while, the only sounds in the hall were the three of us chewing.
Slowly, slowly, the Copper Pillar became thinner—first the size of a water bucket, then a sea bowl, then a wine cup, and finally as small as chopsticks. With a flash of red light, the Copper Pillar vanished without a trace. As the Copper Pillar disappeared, the talisman that had been suppressing Bixi's aura on its forehead also began to fade.
At the same time, Youdi placed her Dust Whisk in front of Bixi's nose.
"Roar!" A loud sound erupted from Bixi, filled with authority. With this booming voice, Bixi trembled all over, much like men do after finishing urination; stones began to fall off its body. In no time, that massive Stone Turtle had shed quite a bit of weight. Even so, after shedding its stones, Bixi was still as large as an ox.
Shaking off the remaining stones on its body, Bixi let out another roar: "Roar..."
The talisman on its forehead had completely disappeared without leaving a trace, but there was no aura leaking out. At least, neither Qingcheng nor Youdi were immobilized; Youdi was still waving her Dust Whisk in front of Bixi's nose.
Bixi wrinkled its nose as if it caught a familiar scent. It tilted its head to look at Youdi, nudging closer to her chest affectionately.
Youdi tucked the Dust Whisk behind her and patted Bixi's large head while holding the purple pill in front of its mouth. Once again, Bixi wrinkled its nose and opened its mouth. I thought it would try to swallow Youdi's hand instead; however, a tongue shot out from inside Bixi, quickly curling around and swallowing the purple pill whole.
Immediately, thunderous gurgling sounds erupted from within Bixi, followed by continuous roaring: "Roar... Roar..."
Clearly, this was a sign of hunger. We had only caught a whiff of the pill's aroma and our stomachs were already growling; now that Bixi had swallowed an entire pill, I wondered if this creature would indiscriminately devour anything in sight.
Youdi placed her space jade pendant on the ground and waved her hands; suddenly, a pile of cucumbers appeared before us. It turned out that the cucumbers in her Spatial Bag were food reserves for Bixi.
Isn't this Millennium Divine Beast too easy to raise? Cucumbers are so cheap. At the Wholesale Market, they cost about a dollar per pound. Even if it eats hundreds of pounds, that's only a few hundred dollars. For a noble family, that's nothing at all.
I quietly asked Qingcheng, "Does this guy like cucumbers? I mean, he's still a prince; how can he have such a simple preference? Does he still retain any memories of Liang Wang Liu Hui?"
Earlier, Liu An and the two women did not have their six senses sealed. I had talked a lot with Liu An, so they heard everything. Thus, she knows that this Bixi is actually Liu Bang's sixth son, Liu Hui.
"The cucumber is a variety introduced by Zhang Qian during his mission to the Western Regions. Zhang Qian was from the Han Wudi era, so Liu Hui probably never ate cucumbers in his lifetime. However, after he joined the Gao Family, they might have let him taste some, and now he's hooked," Qingcheng said with a smile. "The Gao Family must have completely erased his memories to keep him as a pet."
I nodded in understanding.
Before long, Bixi finished all the cucumbers and licked its lips in satisfaction.
"Alright, let's go home!" Youdi took out an ancient-looking copper mirror from her Spatial Bag. It was about the size of a palm and looked quite rusty and unsightly. However, Youdi seemed to value this mirror greatly; she carefully wiped its surface with her robe and then gently placed it on the ground.
"What is she going to do?" I nudged Qingcheng with my elbow.
"You'll find out if you just watch," Qingcheng shot me a glance but didn't move away.
Youdi placed the copper mirror on the ground with the reflective side facing up. She stood up straight and murmured incantations. Soon, a white mist slowly rose from the mirror. The mist did not spread but swirled about a foot above the mirror's surface. As it thickened to near substance, there was a soft sound, and the mist vanished instantly. The rusty surface of the mirror became exceptionally smooth, revealing an image inside—there were mountains and rivers, towering peaks and flowing streams. To my astonishment, the scene in the mirror was alive; I even saw a strange bird flying through the air.
"This thing seems pretty impressive," I poked Qingcheng again.
"Of course!" Qingcheng's face flushed slightly as she moved away from me.
Hey, why are you blushing? I was about to ask when I heard movement from Youdi's side and decided not to pursue it further.
I watched as the Bixi, which was as large as an ox, walked toward the palm-sized copper mirror. The mirror did not enlarge, nor did Bixi change size; however, Bixi simply walked straight into the mirror. This situation completely defied conventional notions of size, yet I felt everything was unfolding naturally. Of course! I'm used to strange occurrences; my Spatial Bag is just like a coin purse—albeit a dime—yet I can continuously pull out various items from it! Youdi's Spatial Bag is only as big as a jade pendant, yet she managed to take out hundreds of pounds of cucumbers...
However, this bronze mirror, like Kong Xuan's Mustard Seed Box, contains mountains and rivers inside, far more sophisticated and elegant than my Spatial Bag. It seems this is a treasure of the Gao Family. I couldn't help but lean in for a closer look, and I saw Bixi leisurely strolling in the world within the mirror.
Youdi frowned slightly when he saw me so close and recited a couple of incantations. The bronze mirror quickly returned to its previous mottled appearance. He bent down to pick it up and put it away, then took out the Dust Whisk from behind him, raising an eyebrow at me: "Who was it that said I haven't fully developed?"
"Uh, don't you know that being overly calculative can affect your realm?" I replied seriously, like an old Zen master enlightening a young seeker.
——————The dividing line of being chased by Youdi in the passage———————
When we emerged to the surface, it was already the second morning. Fortunately, there was no one at the Swimming Pool at this time. The three of us slipped out from the changing room without anyone noticing.
Youdi flicked the Dust Whisk a few times behind him and said, "I've sealed off this entrance. I won't be going back in again. I think you won't have much interest in going back either, right?"
Of course not; there were just a few Copper Pillars inside, nothing else. Plus, there were rats biting people—who would want to go back in?
Youdi exchanged a few words with Qingcheng, mostly about shopping together when they had time, and then they exchanged phone numbers and WeChat IDs. As for me, she just rolled her eyes at me as she left with a huff.
So rude! And she claims to be from a prestigious family—pfft!
When we returned to Brother Five's house, the door was wide open. Brother Five and Sister Five were playing with Peach. Upon seeing Qingcheng and me enter, Brother Five ignored us but a flash of anger crossed his eyes; clearly, he was upset that we didn't listen to him and entered the Ancient Prison.
I exchanged glances with Qingcheng; she understood and stood next to Sister Five to entertain Peach while I pulled Brother Five aside to the Stage: "Brother Five, how about we postpone our trip to Feng City?"
Brother Five looked at me sideways, seemingly puzzled by my strange request. I met his gaze fearlessly. After a moment, he chuckled: "Give me a reason!"
I took out Xu Wuji's skeleton and placed it on the ground.
Brother Five was startled: "A Ghost? What do you mean?"
In the living room, Sister Five saw this scene and immediately let out a sharp scream. Hearing the sound, Peach turned her head towards the balcony. Xiao Qingcheng quickly waved her hand, and a white mist appeared in the room, separating the balcony from the living room. Peach's childish voice came through, "Huh, why is there a white cloud in my house?"
"Peach, how about we go play outside? Wait for Auntie at the door for a moment," came Qingcheng's voice.
"Okay!" Following that, Peach's footsteps ran to the door, and then it seemed that Qingcheng was explaining something to Sister Five.
Once Qingcheng and Peach's voices faded outside, I pointed to the skeleton on the ground and said, "This is your boss Xu Wuji's remains!"
"What did you say?" Brother Five stepped forward and grabbed my collar, his voice slightly distorted.
I sighed and let Brother Five hold onto my collar while I recounted everything that Liu An and I had discussed underground. Finally, I patted Brother Five's shoulder and said, "Let's find a place to bury Xu."
After a moment, Brother Five finally released my collar, squatted down, and soon covered his face with his hands as his shoulders shook. I sighed again and walked into the living room. Seeing Sister Five's dazed expression, I figured Qingcheng had already told her what happened.
With a bitter smile, I nodded towards the balcony direction. Sister Five nodded back and walked to the balcony. Before long, Brother Five's cries could be heard from outside.
A man may shed tears but does not do so lightly; it is only because he has not reached the point of heartbreak.
