Zhong Kui's Diary
"This is a Shadow Spirit, how could it appear here? How could it come here to disturb you? Those things come out in swarms, just like locusts. Tsk tsk, you’re in for it!" Ji Wuyuan glanced at me and smiled, "It seems you haven't been possessed by a Shadow Spirit."
"I just wanted to ask if you know anyone who can control a Shadow Spirit?" I inquired.
"Controlling a Shadow Spirit is not something just any Demon can do. No joke, aside from the three of us, there are at most nine others in this world who can control this thing, including your five from the Yang Realm. Uh... your question is a bit strange. People like us, if we wanted to kill you, could do so with just a finger; why go through the trouble of controlling a Shadow Spirit?" Ji Wuyuan shook his head dismissively.
"It doesn't necessarily have to be the work of a Demon or cultivator," interjected the fierce-looking Emperor Jiang Ziyu. "In the Yang Realm, there's a magical artifact called the Yeling Mirror. Even an ordinary person can control thousands of Shadow Spirits if they know the incantation. I suspect someone has obtained this Yeling Mirror and is having some fun at your expense."
"What is the Yeling Mirror? What does it look like?" I asked in surprise.
"It's an ancient-style bronze mirror with fish-shaped handles on either side and a smiling face on the back..." Jiang Ziyu paused as John threw a bomb and quickly played all his cards. Ji Wuyuan shot me a fierce glare and turned off the screen.
When the Bronze Medal dropped onto the bed, we were all stunned. According to Ji Wuyuan's theory, it was highly likely that someone had obtained the Yeling Mirror and was using Shadow Spirits to attack us, targeting Lingfeng without a doubt.
"Lingfeng, who have you offended?" Kong Xuan asked with a frown.
Lingfeng pondered for a moment before confidently replying, "Aside from family reasons, there might be some opponents from different factions. Personally, I have no enemies."
I nodded in agreement with Lingfeng's words; reaching Lingfeng's level of success is quite remarkable. First, he has wealth and wouldn't offend others over money; second, he's handsome and remains loyal to Li Xinyan, avoiding high-minded activities like Health Treatment or lowbrow entertainment like keeping mistresses. Therefore, he wouldn't have enemies due to emotional issues either. Thirdly, the Ling Family's influence is already vast, and due to the Book of Life and Death, they are now even more powerful. Any faction attempting to assassinate Lingfeng would have to consider the repercussions from the Ling Family's Thunderous Strike—an absolute disaster. Thus, I don't believe this was an act by another family.
But after ruling out these points, what other reasons could lead someone to take action?
The more I thought about it, the more confused I became. Meanwhile, Fatty and Kong Xuan were happily smoking and jokingly scolded me, "Damn it! You guys should think together and figure out what's going on!"
Before I could respond, there was a knock at the door. Since I had kicked it down earlier, it was only slightly ajar. The person outside paused before pushing the door open.
It was Li Xinyan and Aijia Yu.
Seeing all six of us present, Li Xinyan smiled and said, "No wonder no one answered when I knocked on other doors; turns out everyone is in this room!"
"Hey, why is the bride running around everywhere? At this time, you should be staying at home, crying about how you can't bear to leave your parents, and waiting for us to come and take you away tomorrow morning!" Fatty said with a grin, then looked at Li Xinyan thoughtfully. "Tsk tsk, could it be that you can't help but want to consummate the marriage early?"
"Fat Brother, you're so bad!" Li Xinyan laughed with a blush, her eyes filled with happiness. "I came to invite you all for a late-night snack, the specialty of Shacheng, General Pig Stomach Chicken!"
Seeing Li Xinyan come over, we all refrained from mentioning the matter of the Shadow Spirit appearing here. The bride was truly adorable; let's just let her stay in her best state to welcome her wedding.
After tidying up a bit, we left the hotel and walked along the brightly lit street for more than ten minutes. Li Xinyan led us into an alley. Although the lighting in the alley was much dimmer compared to outside, it wasn't completely dark. After walking about thirty meters into the alley, Li Xinyan pointed to a shop and said, "This is it, Sister Wang's General Pig Stomach Chicken, with a secret recipe passed down for seven generations!"
Upon entering, the interior was decorated in a Chinese style, with red silk lanterns hanging from the ceiling and carved wooden window frames. There were also wooden railings adorned with dragon and phoenix carvings dividing the hall into two areas. The front hall had a bluestone slab floor, while the back hall was laid with large wooden planks. Eight Immortals tables were placed both in the front and back, gleaming with age-old oil. The chairs were heavy-backed ones, and the space was quite spacious; even though three or four tables were occupied, it didn't feel crowded at all.
Once everyone was seated, a round-faced waitress handed us the menu and stood by smiling as we decided what to order. Fatty took the menu and laughed, "Sister Wang's General Pig Stomach Chicken? Tsk tsk, there must be something fishy here! They say it's a secret recipe passed down for seven generations. You know that secret recipes are usually passed down to sons but not daughters or sons-in-law. How could it possibly have such a name as Sister Wang? It would make more sense if it were Brother Wang or Sister Wang's husband."
Li Xinyan's eyes twinkled mischievously. "Fat Brother, if I give you a reason that convinces you completely, you have to give me an extra red envelope!"
Fatty laughed heartily. "Deal!"
Li Xinyan clapped her hands and said with a smile, "Because the founder of this restaurant is named Sister Wang! Her surname is Wang and her first name is Jie—she's definitely a real man!"
Not just Fatty; all of us were somewhat stunned at first before bursting into laughter. Who would have thought that Sister Wang actually had such a name?
"Haha, I'm convinced! Here you go!" Fatty casually pulled out a box without looking and handed it to Li Xinyan. "Take it!"
Li Xinyan's face turned bright red when she saw what it was. "Fat Brother, what are you doing?"
All eyes turned to Fatty's hand where there was clearly a box containing one Durex.
Seeing everyone's strange expressions, Fatty glanced at his hand and felt his face heat up for once. He quickly swapped it out for another box of similar size that was beautifully packaged.
Only then did Li Xinyan take it; as she did so, her hand sank slightly under its weight. Clearly, this item was quite heavy. She couldn't help but laugh and ask, "What's inside this?"
"Why not just open it and see?" Fatty said nonchalantly.
Li Xinyan glanced at Lingfeng, who smiled and nodded, "It's already yours; you can open it whenever you want."
Amidst the rustling, Li Xinyan tore open the exquisite packaging and was momentarily stunned. Inside was a rather high-end box, with large characters on top reading 'Ten Thousand Year Old Ginseng,' and below it, a line of English that simply said 'a.'
"What do you mean by giving Xinyan ginseng?" Lingfeng looked at Fatty with amusement.
Fatty smiled awkwardly, "I saw this nice box while browsing at a market last time, so I used it for packaging. Inside is definitely not ginseng!"
Hearing this from Fatty, Li Xinyan quickly opened the box. A flash of golden light caught her eye, and upon closer inspection, she found that it contained a gold brick, which must weigh around half a pound.
"Wow, this is too precious!" Li Xinyan blushed and tried to return the gold to Fatty.
Fatty waved his hand dismissively, "What are you talking about? This is nothing; Ghost Brother has an even bigger one for you!"
I chuckled to myself; this gold piece was clearly made from the Golden Puppet skeleton we brought back from Sun City. Although Lou Wei took most of it, we still had over a hundred pounds of gold on us.
Just as I was about to speak to Li Xinyan, there was a commotion outside the shop, as if someone was fighting. Suddenly, a man in black rushed in. Upon seeing him, Li Xinyan quickly stood up and called out loudly, "Brother Lin, were you looking for me?"
The man in black, Brother Lin, showed a hint of panic upon seeing Li Xinyan. However, when he noticed we were all there, he seemed to relax slightly and shouted, "Xinyan, that guy named Shi is back; you need to be careful."
With that, he turned and ran back outside as the noise grew louder.
"What does that mean?" Lingfeng asked Li Xinyan in surprise.
Li Xinyan opened her mouth several times but couldn't say anything. Her face alternated between red and pale, looking like someone who had been caught doing something wrong.
Now not only Lingfeng but all of us felt something was off and began questioning Li Xinyan. She appeared flustered, as if something extremely embarrassing was about to happen.
Finally, it was Aijia Yu who spoke up: "Don't look at Xinyan like that, I know what's going on!"
Kong Xuan replied unhappily, "If you know, then hurry up and tell us. Stop keeping us in suspense."
Aijia Yu quickly clarified the situation.
It turned out that the noisy person outside was named Shattering Stone. We won't discuss whether his father is a fan of Jin Yong.
Shattering Stone and Li Xinyan were practically childhood friends; they attended elementary, middle, and high school together, only separating when they went to university. In Li Xinyan's eyes, Shattering Stone was like an older brother to her, but in Shattering Stone's eyes, he had long regarded Li Xinyan as his wife.
After Li Xinyan graduated from university, Shattering Stone confessed his feelings to her. Naturally, Li Xinyan rejected him without hesitation. As a result, Shattering Stone embarked on a path of relentless pursuit. Although the Li Family had considerable connections in Star City, Shattering Stone's family was also well-off. For a time, neither side's parents wanted to openly confront each other, leading to Li Xinyan feeling cornered and eventually taking a job in Star City. Otherwise, given the Li Family's influence in Shacheng, Li Xinyan could have easily secured a civil service position and lived a comfortable life.
This time, when Li Xinyan returned home for her wedding, Shattering Stone immediately became agitated and insisted on confronting her. The problem was, what could Li Xinyan give him? The most they had ever done was hold hands while going to school together; aside from that, there were no intimate gestures. If holding hands required justification, then "Hand Holding Network" would be the largest dating website.
Li Xinyan arrived in Shacheng yesterday and was immediately harassed by Shattering Stone upon reaching home. That was how Aijia Yu learned the truth of the matter.
As soon as Aijia Yu finished speaking, a young man burst into the room with a face twisted in pain, looking quite ferocious. Upon entering, he scanned the room and finally spotted Li Xinyan. His eyes turned red as he pointed at her and shouted: "Li Xinyan, despite my love for you, you refuse to be with me! I tell you, I will never let you be with anyone else!"
