Zhong Kui's Diary
“That police officer from the precinct, Liu Qingshan, was sentenced to zero years. The chief was dismissed, and even the district director has applied for medical retirement,” Lingfeng shook his head with a bitter smile.
“In my opinion, that Liu Qingshan should be taken out for target practice!” Fatty snorted coldly from the side.
I thought the same, but given Lingfeng's character, it was surprising that he didn’t take care of Liu Qingshan. There must be some regulations from above; in official circles, there are always various constraints and pressures.
With a sigh, I lost interest in asking further. Aijia Yu coldly remarked from the side, “What about Litong's biological father? Did he come forward later?”
Lingfeng shook his head: “No, this person never showed up at all. When they called him, he just gave Yeh Rong ten thousand and cut off all ties with her and the child.”
“This person is really heartless!” Guo'er exclaimed in surprise. “Even if he thinks Yeh Rong is wrong, the child is still his, right? How can he just abandon them like that?”
“Hmph, that Ye is not a good person either; he doesn’t deserve to be a father!” An Ran huffed.
“Uh, An Ran, Litong takes her mother’s surname. Her father is named Sha Zhiyuan; his surname is Sha,” Lingfeng cleared his throat.
Sha Zhiyuan… I feel like I’ve heard that name somewhere before.
Furrowing my brows, I recalled carefully; I had definitely heard that name recently. Who could it be? After sorting through the events of the past two days, I suddenly remembered that during a gathering, Chen Shan had mentioned that the first person to offer incense for Guanyu at the company was the boss Sha Zhiyuan.
Could it be so coincidental that Ye Litong is actually Sha Zhiyuan's daughter?
I quickly asked, “Did this Sha Zhiyuan ever run a company?”
Lingfeng frowned: “I haven’t looked into his specific details; I only know he was in business. Why? Zheng Nan, do you know something?”
“The former boss of the company Tang Zian took over was named Sha Zhiyuan,” I exclaimed loudly.
“Ah?” Everyone gasped in surprise.
Immediately, Guo'er said, "Could it be that Litong's ghost wants revenge? Is that why there are these disturbances in the company? The photocopier produced Ye Litong's ID card. Doesn't anyone in the company know what the boss's daughter's name is?"
"In today's society, it's quite normal for company employees not to know the boss's daughter's name. Some employees might not even know the boss's name," Fatty scoffed.
I stroked my chin and said, "When I left, that security guard mentioned that the haunting at Rui Company seemed more like a child's prank. Guo'er could also be involved."
"Impossible!" Kong Xuan shook his head vigorously. "Zheng Nan, I've told you before, once a person dies, they cannot become a ghost. Humans and ghosts are completely different forms of life; the Underworld and the Yang Realm are also independent existences. Humans are humans, and ghosts are ghosts—two separate matters."
I suddenly remembered that during the incident with Ma Xingrui's illegitimate daughter Chen Fei'er in Moon City, Kong Xuan had explained this to me. I couldn't help but smile awkwardly, "Isn't this just another line of thought?"
"Alright, even if your line of thought might exist, Sha Zhiyuan has already sold the company. What does it matter if Litong is still trying to play tricks?" Kong Xuan said dismissively.
"The ghostly events that happened in Sha Zhiyuan's former company coinciding with the appearance of Ye Litong's ID copy can't be dismissed," I frowned.
After discussing for a while, everyone felt unclear about the situation and ultimately decided that Lingfeng would go back and thoroughly investigate Sha Zhiyuan's background. I would continue my undercover work at Rui Company, while Guo'er expressed her intention to take Yeh Rong back to Beijing for recovery. Currently, Yeh Rong was still in the Rehabilitation Center and completely unaware of what was happening outside. I wondered if Yeh Rong would go crazy after learning about this.
We all supported Guo'er's decision; first, because Beijing has excellent medical care, and second, it would distance Yeh Rong from Star City, a place filled with painful memories that might trigger her emotions. As for whether it would be effective or not, we had no way of knowing. After some sighs, we settled the bill and left.
------------------- A dividing line for uncertainty -------------------
The second day was Friday. For office workers, Friday is a good day because it means they can sleep in over the weekend and also implies that if they go to a bar that night, they will encounter more girls than usual. If luck is on their side, they might even end up in a hotel room singing karaoke together.
Of course, if hunting for romance at the bar doesn't go well, one could always visit places like Royal Court Club or Jin Kelly where there are promotional activities such as buy-one-get-one-free deals and raffles. Each profession has its specialties; just because Health Treatment exists doesn't mean marketing strategies can't be applied elsewhere.
I digress; anyway, Friday is a joyful day. When I arrived at the office, I saw all my colleagues wearing smiles.
"Zheng Nan, did you encounter anything strange while working late last night?" During lunch downstairs while eating Lanzhou beef noodles, Chen Shan asked me with a grin.
In our office, there were only four men: Zhang Rui had already settled down and brought meals from home to heat up in the microwave; Zhao Donghai took Zhu Qi out for Spicy Hot Pot. Ever since he heroically saved her last time, Zhu Qi had developed a much better impression of Zhao Donghai.
I was quite puzzled by Chen Shan's attitude. It seemed to him that the supernatural events in the company were just an April Fool's joke. I chuckled bitterly and said, "I didn't hear the sound of a lighter when I went to the restroom last night. Instead, when I was leaving, that photocopier went haywire and printed out a large number of ID cards."
"Was it Ye Litong again?" Chen Shan asked while slurping his noodles.
"Yeah, luckily I unplugged its power supply; otherwise, who knows how many it would have printed." I laughed as well. After a couple of bites of noodles, I pushed my bowl away and said, "Brother Chicken, I don't think you're particularly afraid of these supernatural events."
"It doesn't harm me, so why should I be afraid?" Chen Shan replied with his mouth full of noodles.
"That's true." I lit a cigarette and casually changed the subject. "What do you think about Zhao Donghai chasing Zhu Qi? Does he have any hope?"
"Difficult!" Chen Shan laughed and shook his head at my question, blowing on his bowl before sipping the soup.
"Not necessarily." I was noncommittal about Chen Shan's reaction. I had a say in this matter because I was a classic case of Silk Counterattack. No matter how powerful Zhu Qi's family is, they are just local tyrants in Star City, while the Yang Family's influence spans the entire country. If I could win Guo'er’s favor, then Zhao Donghai chasing Zhu Qi might not be without hope.
Chen Shan finished his soup completely and let out a satisfied sigh. He grabbed a napkin to wipe his mouth and said with a smile, "Zheng Nan, you probably don't believe that love can move mountains or something like that. I don't deny that such love exists, but it's impossible for it to happen with Zhu Qi."
"Huh? Are you saying that Zhu Qi is playing with Zhao Donghai?" I asked in surprise.
"Haha, Zheng Nan, I'm not saying that at all; this has to do with Zhu Qi's father," Chen Shan replied with a laugh.
"What do you mean?"
"Zheng Nan, you're also from Star City; you must have heard the saying 'People fear fame like pigs fear fat; avoid women like Sha Monk,' right?" Chen Shan chuckled.
"Uh, what does that mean? I've honestly never heard that before," I said in astonishment.
"Hehe, that shows you don't pay much attention to the business circles in Star City. In any city or town, from small to international cities, there is always a top-tier circle in the local business community that almost monopolizes local businesses. This top-tier circle in Star City is known as the Four Great Tycoons."
"Four Great Tycoons?"
"Well, in Star City, the Jin Family is naturally far ahead. Let's not mention that for now. Besides the Jin Family, there are three other businessmen who are also doing quite well. One is Ren Zhiming, another is Zhu Liancheng, and the last one is Sha Zhiyuan, who is our former boss," Chen Shan continued. "Among them, Ren Zhiming doesn't like to be interviewed by reporters, while Zhu Liancheng enjoys working out. So, in the saying 'people fear becoming famous while pigs fear becoming fat,' 'people' refers to Ren Zhiming and 'pigs' refers to Zhu Liancheng. As for our Boss Sha, it's clear that he doesn't have much interest in women."
"Uh, you really think highly of our Star City. Sha Zhiyuan has just this one company, and he’s considered to be doing quite well?" I expressed my disbelief.
"Zheng Nan, our company is just one of Sha Zhiyuan's many businesses. He sold this company because he couldn't stand being there anymore."
"What? He couldn't stand being at the company? He's the boss; how could he not stay?" I was greatly puzzled.
"Well... I'm not sure about that; I heard it from others." Chen Shan cleared his throat a couple of times and responded hesitantly before laughing, "Uh... why are we talking about this? Isn't it about Zhu Qi?"
"Right, right. What exactly is going on with Zhu Qi?"
"For us common folks, free love seems acceptable, but as you move up the social ladder, such freedom becomes increasingly rare. For example, who would dare to pursue a romantic relationship with the granddaughter of the current number one? If someone were to marry her, they would at least need to be the child of a minister or a descendant of a revolutionary elder. The same logic applies in the upper circles of Star City; Zhu Qi's marriage has long been decided by her father, Zhu Liancheng. She will marry Ren Zhiming's son—Ren Feiyu." A strange smile crossed Chen Shan's face.
"Ren Feiyu? That name sounds familiar," I said as realization hit me. "Wait, you mean our business director Ren Feiyu?"
"That's right; Ren Feiyu is Ren Zhiming's son," Chen Shan nodded with a smile.
Although I wasn't very familiar with the business world in Star City, I knew quite a bit about the Jin Family. Since these three individuals could be collectively referred to as the 'Four Great Tycoons' alongside the Jin Family, they must have considerable strength—certainly worth several billion at least. With that thought came a big question in my mind as I frowned and said, "Isn't this ridiculous? Why would Ren Feiyu and Zhu Qi work at Sha Zhiyuan's company when their fathers are so powerful? It doesn't make sense!"
