Zhong Kui's Diary
When I arrived at the hospital, Fatty was lying on the bed, his whole body wrapped in bandages, looking like a mummy. An Ran was sitting beside him, engrossed in a magazine. When she saw me come in, An Ran put down the magazine and greeted me.
"What happened?" I asked An Ran.
"Ask him, I'm too lazy," An Ran huffed and turned to leave.
"Uh, did you offend An Ran? The person who hit you with the car wouldn't be An Ran, right?" I walked over to the bedside and sat down, smiling as I asked.
"It's not like that... sigh, it's a bit complicated," Fatty mumbled from the bed.
"Is your injury serious?" I frowned.
"I won't die; it's mainly just annoying."
"What exactly happened?"
"This morning, An Ran went out to buy groceries while I was sleeping at home. I heard someone knocking on the door. When I opened my eyes, I saw An Ran's keys still on the nightstand. Thinking it was her, I grabbed the keys and went to open the door in my shorts. But it turned out to be my neighbor Li." Fatty sighed and looked at me with an innocent expression.
"Okay, and then?"
"My neighbor Li!" Fatty repeated.
"What's so important about emphasizing that? It's not like no one has neighbors," I raised an eyebrow, about to mock Fatty when suddenly it struck me: "You mean that neighbor Li who helps you with Health Treatment?"
"Exactly!" Fatty said with a troubled expression. "As soon as I opened the door, Li jumped into my arms, saying something about mountains not having peaks and earth not having boundaries."
"Damn!" I quickly glanced outside the door but didn't see An Ran there. I couldn't help but chuckle quietly, "You were so loud; are you trying to get yourself killed?"
"Compared to what happened next, this is nothing," Fatty sighed again. "I pushed her away right then and there and sternly asked her what she wanted... uh, I meant to ask her what she wanted."
"Well, what about her?"
"What else could it be? She just wanted to be with me or something like that. In the end, I glared at her, and she finally told the truth. It turned out she had played Mahjong with a few colleagues all night and lost all her cash. Those colleagues refused to lend her money, so in a fit of anger, Li decided to go out and withdraw some cash. Just then, she saw An Ran leaving and thought of taking the opportunity to offer me a service to earn some money before going back to play." Fatty said with a bitter smile.
I couldn't help but chuckle as I took out a cigarette and lit it. "So you went along with it?"
"How could I be reckless in my own house? I was just about to take Li home to solve the problem when, unfortunately, An Ran came back." A look of tragic resignation appeared on Fatty's face.
"You got beaten up by An Ran like this?" I exclaimed in surprise.
"Not exactly. An Ran still gave me face in front of others; she just told me to go back later." Fatty chuckled lightly. "Ghost Brother, give me a smoke!"
I directly shoved the cigarette I had taken two puffs from into his mouth. Fatty greedily took a puff and coughed twice. "Of course, I knew I'd be in big trouble when I got back. I agreed verbally and then turned around to run. An Ran was furious and chased after me."
"And then?"
"I thought about hiding at your place, so I ran towards the outskirts. Just as I reached the road, an SUV came speeding towards me. Even though I was only wearing shorts, my Kung Fu skills were still intact. In a hurry, I jumped aside, but unfortunately, another motorcycle came out of nowhere next to me. In that critical moment, I used my toes to tap the front of the motorcycle and leaped sideways again." Fatty said animatedly.
Compared to Fatty's agility, changing positions mid-air was not difficult at all.
"Man proposes but God disposes..." Fatty sighed deeply, his expression shifting from pride to helplessness. "Just when I thought I had escaped danger, a bus came crashing towards me... and that's how I ended up like this."
I stared blankly for a while before bursting into laughter. "Fatty, your luck is just too terrible."
"That's inhumane! I'm in this state and you can't even say something comforting," Fatty complained unhappily.
"Have you ever thought that if you hadn't been hit by the car but instead caught by An Ran, you might have been hurt even worse?" I winked at Fatty and then nodded towards the door. "A blessing in disguise; do you realize you dodged a bullet because of this?"
Fatty was about to respond when the door swung open, and Kong Xuan rushed in. Upon seeing Fatty's condition, he was taken aback for a moment before angrily asking, "Who did this? Who did it?"
Kong Xuan also knew about Fatty's skills. If there were no accidents, Fatty couldn't have been hit like this.
I invited Kong Xuan to sit down and smiled as I recounted the events. Upon hearing this, Kong Xuan burst into laughter and repeatedly said, "Fatty, you really have bad luck."
"What does luck have to do with it?" Fatty frowned.
"Is there any other explanation besides bad luck?" Kong Xuan retorted.
"I just don't believe in that," Fatty snorted.
After chatting aimlessly for a while, the door was pushed open again. A stern-faced An Ran walked in behind a tall nurse wearing a mask. The nurse was holding a bottle of medicine, apparently to change Fatty's dressing.
She quickly finished changing the dressing, adjusted the flow switch, and smiled, "Oh, isn't this Fat Master?"
Fatty was taken aback and said, "Who are you? You weren't the one who changed my dressing earlier."
The nurse removed her mask, revealing a beautiful smile: "The one who helped you earlier was my sister. I'm off today and came to see her. Since the director needed her for something, I came to cover her shift. After all, I graduated from nursing school too."
"I feel like I've seen you somewhere before, but I can't remember where," Fatty frowned.
"Oh, Fat Master, you forget things easily! I'm A Hong from Emperor Club, employee number 1056. Next time, make sure to call my name to leave a deeper impression!" The tall nurse laughed and left.
Fatty turned his head and saw An Ran with a frosty expression. He immediately shouted, "Hey, what's wrong with you? Did you mistake me for someone else? I don’t know you!"
Kong Xuan and I exchanged glances and consciously stood up to walk outside. Fatty yelled hoarsely, "Ghost Brother, Xuan Ge..."
Before he could finish his sentence, a sound of flesh being torn echoed behind him... This sound continued for more than a minute before An Ran finally walked out calmly without saying a word and left. Kong Xuan and I exchanged smiles and pushed the door back in.
"Wow, Fatty looks absolutely miserable on the hospital bed; words can't describe it. He's been beaten to a pulp.
‘Fatty, are you still alive?’ I asked with a laugh.
‘That woman is too ruthless!’ Fatty gasped in response. ‘She strikes precisely at the most painful but inconsequential spots, like the back of my thighs. Ouch, it hurts so much. You two really left me behind at such a critical moment.’
‘Fatty, you just have bad luck, right?’ Kong Xuan said with a smile as he handed me a cigarette, lighting it and taking a puff. ‘You just finished saying you don’t believe in luck, and then bam, instant karma.’
‘How strange, could it really be bad luck? Everything’s been going wrong lately,’ Fatty frowned.
‘What do you mean by going wrong? Come on, share with us,’ Kong Xuan chuckled.
‘Well, after finishing up my fight with Tang Zian, I split from Ghost Brother and went home. As soon as I opened my computer to play games, I found out my account had been hacked. When I logged in, all my gear was gone! The worst part is that the person who hacked my account is borrowing money in my name in the game, and now everyone is asking me for debts,’ Fatty said, smacking his lips. ‘Feeling frustrated, I decided to watch a few movies to relax, only to find that all my usual Website were blocked...’
‘Your account being hacked is likely due to those movie Website having Trojan viruses,’ I said with a laugh.
‘Yeah, that must be it!’ Kong Xuan asserted. ‘There’s always a cause for every effect; this has nothing to do with luck.’
‘Alright, it has nothing to do with luck,’ Fatty conceded weakly and continued. ‘I turned off the computer and lay in bed to watch something. After just a few chapters, I slipped and dropped my phone right on my nose; that hurt so much! Instinctively, I grabbed my phone and threw it away, only realizing afterward that it was my phone!’
‘Haha!’ Kong Xuan and I exchanged glances, unable to hold back our laughter.
‘The phone fell on the ground and the screen shattered into pieces; I couldn’t even watch anything anymore. Looks like I’ll have to get some action going. Once An Ran finishes her shower, we started getting busy. That night she was really energetic and insisted on being on top. Just when things were getting good, she moved too much and accidentally hurt me...’
I felt a shiver run down my spine at the thought of him being hurt like that; it was too much to imagine.
‘But that’s not even the worst part! After that, I had all sorts of bad luck: I found a green worm in my food, had a flower pot fall on my head while walking, got stuck in an elevator malfunction, someone pooped in the Swimming Pool, and even bought fake cigarettes! Then I ended up in the hospital after a car accident, and even there I got beaten up by An Ran... What is going on?’ Fatty looked utterly helpless.
‘Fatty, I admire your courage for still being alive,’ I joked lightheartedly."
Just as I was about to say something to Kong Xuan, I noticed the serious expression on his face.
I couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong?"
"Something feels off," Kong Xuan frowned.
"What could possibly be off?" I was quite surprised. "Everyone has gone through these things, right? It's just that Fatty is a bit unlucky, having to review everything in a short time."
"This situation with Fatty is definitely not as simple as it seems. I believe these events are orchestrated," Kong Xuan said after a long pause.
"You mean everything Fatty has encountered is someone else's doing?" I asked skeptically.
"Exactly!" Kong Xuan nodded affirmatively.
"I can understand that finding a bug in his food, having a flower pot fall on his head while walking, or even his game account being hacked could be orchestrated, but are you suggesting that someone was also there helping push An Ran and Fatty while they were working? That seems a bit far-fetched," I laughed.
"Strange occurrences often indicate something sinister. Fatty's luck is truly unusual," Kong Xuan said with a furrowed brow. "As for your situation, if someone slipped an aphrodisiac into An Ran's food, it wouldn't be impossible for her to suddenly become more enthusiastic."
Upon hearing this, I fell silent; there really was a possibility of that happening.
