Zhong Kui's Diary
I hurriedly looked up, and three meters ahead, a Silver Round Can appeared, slowly rising and falling. Under the sunlight, it shimmered with dazzling brilliance.
"Fortune God?" I called out uncertainly. Who knows if this is the Lucky Light of the Fortune God or the Cursed Light of the Cursed God? They look the same on the surface.
"Zhong Zhengnan!" A voice came from the Round Can; it was the voice of the Fortune God.
Huh, how does the Fortune God know my name? I don't think I've ever told him my name. Then I thought about it; he stole part of my memories, so it's not surprising that he knows my name. I snorted coldly and said, "Now that the Cursed God is gone, what can you do to find it?"
"It's a bit troublesome!" The Fortune God sighed.
The Fortune God sighed like that, and I didn't know how to respond. Damn, why aren't you following the usual script? Clearing my throat, I asked, "The one who attacked me just now was also the Cursed God, right?"
"That's right; I saw it just now. It was him!" The Fortune God said with a bitter smile. "Unfortunately, you dodged the attack at that moment. Just as I was preparing to help, the Cursed God slipped away after missing."
"Unfortunately?" I retorted angrily. "You think it's unfortunate that I dodged an attack? It's only unfortunate if I didn't dodge it, isn't that right?"
"Uh, that's not what I meant. I meant that if your reaction hadn't been so quick, we might have been able to capture it together!" The Fortune God chuckled.
"So what can we do now?" I asked again.
"There is a way." The Fortune God grinned.
"Let's hear it!"
The Fortune God remained silent while the silver Round Can slowly approached me in the air.
"What? Do you need to whisper?" I laughed.
"There might be ears on the other side of the wall; what if someone is eavesdropping?" The Fortune God's voice sounded quite strange.
I vaguely sensed that something was off. Damn, why does it feel like there's a conspiracy? I turned my mind around and said, "Two Oriole Sing in the Green Willows!"
This was the secret code I had arranged with the Fortune God. If I said "Two Oriole Sing in the Green Willows," he was supposed to respond with "A Branch of Red Apricot Leaps Over the Wall." If he couldn't respond, it meant he wasn't the Fortune God.
The figure in front of me, calling himself the Fortune God, looked taken aback. "What does that mean?"
"It means nothing. I just want to know why you didn't respond with 'A Branch of Red Apricot Leaps Over the Wall'?" I smiled, but inside I was certain that this Round Can was not the Lucky Light of the Fortune God, but rather the Cursed Light of the Cursed God.
I secretly prepared my Spell and waited until this Round Can floated within less than a meter from me before shouting, "Five Thunder Strikes!"
In an instant, hundreds of bolts of lightning struck directly at the Silver Round Can. Amidst the crackling sounds, the Round Can was hit by lightning, emitting a dazzling silver light before exploding into ashes.
"Damn!" I cursed. I had originally intended to summon more lightning to strike down this Cursed Light and capture it to later interrogate the Cursed God about his whereabouts, but unexpectedly, I had reduced this Round Can to dust.
I looked around for a while, confirming that there were no other Cursed Lights nearby. After checking my phone, I found that it had signal again; it turned out that the lack of signal was due to the presence of the Cursed Light.
I quickly called Lin Lin back, but after ringing for a while, no one answered.
Huh? What’s going on? I then dialed another number for Lin Lin, but that one showed as turned off.
Could something have happened to Lin Lin? A sudden thought crossed my mind as I dialed the previous number again. This time someone answered: "Hello!"
The voice was unusually strange, as if someone was deliberately speaking in a high-pitched tone while covering their mouth with a cloth over the phone. I couldn't even tell if it was a man or a woman.
"Who are you? Where's Lin Lin?" I couldn't gauge the other person's intentions.
"Lin Lin? Hehehe, this woman knows too much." The voice chuckled ominously.
"What do you mean?" A bad premonition began to rise within me.
"Isn't it obvious? Only dead people can keep secrets; that's what they say on TV." The voice laughed again.
"Who are you?" I shouted angrily.
"It doesn't matter who I am; what matters is who Qingcheng and Kong Xuan are," the voice replied with a strange, piercing laugh.
"What have you done to Qingcheng and the others?" I demanded sharply.
"You're raising your voice; are you trying to intimidate me?" the voice scoffed.
"Fine, what do you want?" I took a deep breath, suppressing my anger and lowering my voice to ask.
"What? Is that how you speak to me, with such disdain?" the voice squeaked with a mocking laugh.
I remained silent, my chest rising and falling rapidly. I feared that if I spoke, a torrent of curses would pour out. Damn it, at least I could stay quiet.
"Hey, if you're not going to talk, are you ignoring me?" the voice laughed heartily, finally catching its breath before saying, "Alright then, since you're being so obedient, I won't joke with you anymore. Just one thing: go kill Fortune God, and I'll release them all."
"That's impossible!" I flatly rejected the request. What kind of joke was that? Fortune God had been working hard for humanity's survival; how could I be asked to kill it? No way, one must not be so ungrateful. This request was likely from Cursed God.
"You don't agree?" the voice said ominously.
"Damn it, how am I supposed to kill him? I'm not even his match!" I could only make excuses; if this guy got angry and decided to take action against me, it would be disastrous.
"Fortune God's current abilities are at most Grandmaster Level. If you call on one or two Demon level companions, do you really think you can't take him down?"
"You overestimate me; I can't summon any Demon." I forced a bitter smile; this was the truth.
"If you can't summon them, can't you offer some benefits?" the voice suggested slyly.
"Come on, what could they possibly want that they don't already have? What benefits can I offer them? Even if I cooked myself for them to eat, they might not even be interested," I replied with another bitter laugh.
"What about the Yin-Yang Ancient Coin?" the voice said slowly and deliberately.
“Yin-Yang Ancient Coin?” I was quite surprised. Aside from the Top Masters, it seemed that only my companions had a slight understanding of it.
“All you need is for the Fortune God to have a Yin-Yang Ancient Coin. Whoever kills him will claim the Yin-Yang Ancient Coin. Just see if they are willing to take action,” the voice chuckled, as if it understood the matters among the Demon.
“Are you sure the Fortune God has a Yin-Yang Ancient Coin?” I was even more astonished.
“I can assure you,” the voice chuckled again. “Think it over carefully; I’ll give you three days to decide.”
With that, the call ended abruptly.
Listening to the beeping sound of the disconnection on my phone, I felt unusually confused.
Killing the Fortune God? Is that even possible? Even if I could kill him, I wouldn’t take action. As for teaming up with Ji Wuyuan and other Demon to kill the Fortune God, that was even more impossible. One must have principles and boundaries, and clearly, killing the Fortune God would violate my principles and exceed my limits.
There are a total of seven Yin-Yang Ancient Coins. The Ghost Zombie possesses two, while Gugu, Yun Zhihan, Jiang Ziyu, and I each have one, making six coins in total. Now that I’ve learned that the last Yin-Yang Ancient Coin is in the hands of the Fortune God, if this news spreads, not only will the Fortune God face death, but even among the Grandmaster, there will be mutual slaughter.
It’s simple: previously, without knowing the whereabouts of the last coin, having only six coins meant they were merely collectibles as stated by the Ghost Zombie. But now that all seven can be gathered, it means one can absorb energy from the Earthly Sun God. What could be more enticing to a Demon than this? Just one more coin is the origin of chaos.
When I asked the Fortune God yesterday, why didn’t he tell me he possessed this Yin-Yang Ancient Coin? Then I realized that such information concerning humanity's fate would not be casually shared by the Fortune God. The fewer people who know about such matters, the safer it is.
What should I do? Killing the Fortune God is impossible, but if I don’t follow this voice’s instructions, people like Qingcheng will definitely be in danger.
This is so frustrating.
After thinking for a while, my mind was in chaos. Such matters require someone nearby for reference; two people can inspire each other and broaden their thinking. Yes, I should return to Star City. It seems I need to consult with Xiao Ye. He is the only trustworthy Grandmaster Level expert I have and one of three human competitors among the current Top Masters. The other two are myself and Gugu. That’s right; Gugu is also human.
Should I involve Gugu as well? After all, she is human too; she wouldn’t just stand by and watch humanity suffer such a disaster, would she?
Lost in thought, when I reached the side of the road, I realized that my SUV was missing.
Damn it! What does it mean when it rains while it pours? When someone is down on their luck, even drinking cold water can get stuck in their teeth. In this desolate place, my car had actually been stolen.
I took out my phone and called Lingfeng to inform him about the situation. Lingfeng, feeling both amused and helpless, said, "I'm not worried about the car being stolen; all the toll stations are connected online. I can have someone post it in the system shortly. The only problem is that you're still in a remote area... Tsk tsk, I'll send someone to pick you up, but it will take two or three hours."
I chuckled and declined Lingfeng's offer, saying, "That's unnecessary. I can just hitch a ride with a passing car."
Lingfeng immediately became anxious. "Don't be foolish! General Mountain is a mountain road, and because the road conditions are poor, very few cars pass by. Plus, you're an adult man—what driver would stop to give you a ride? Aren't they afraid you might be a robber?"
"Ha ha, don't worry! With my skills, how could I not manage to climb onto a truck?" I laughed as I hung up.
Standing by the roadside, I lit a cigarette and thought about how I would leap onto a passing truck. Unfortunately, within the next hour, five cars headed toward Shacheng passed by, while only one car was going toward Star City—and it was the kind of vehicle I wasn't keen on. I hesitated for a moment; in the end, I didn't want to replicate those movie scenes where someone clings to the roof of a speeding car and decided to give up reluctantly.
I regretted not agreeing to let Lingfeng come pick me up; what was I trying to prove?
As it grew darker, I tossed another cigarette butt aside. Just when I was feeling frustrated, I saw two headlights approaching from the direction of Shacheng. I waved my hand eagerly, silently gritting my teeth; if this car didn't stop, I'd climb onto its roof regardless.
The car actually stopped in front of me. The window rolled down to reveal a beautiful smile: "Hey handsome, need a ride?"
