Zhong Kui's Diary
Knowing that the other party is a Rich and Beautiful Girl, the next focus should be on winning her heart. If she is a girl from a wealthy background, you should accompany her to enjoy the splendor; if she is a Rich and Beautiful Girl, you should take her to the carousel.
Although that's what I think, the specifics still depend on the situation. I can't just drag her to an amusement park right now. Hmm, I should appear with a sunny and handsome style, perhaps with a wise and humorous demeanor?
Damn, why is it so complicated to be a wingman?
Seeing me somewhat at a loss for words, Liu Dan raised her eyebrows slightly: "Mr. Li, there are some things I want to clarify before we continue dating. If it’s suitable, we can proceed; if not, there's no need to waste each other's time."
Hearing Liu Dan say this, I breathed a sigh of relief. Since I can't take the initiative, I might as well play defense.
"Do you have a house in Star City?" Liu Dan asked with a half-smile, looking at me intently.
I had a premonition that if I answered no, she would definitely get up and leave. And honestly, I wanted to tell her— I don’t own a house! I'm just a fighter among the poor, a VIP among the broke.
Of course, my script doesn’t allow for such lines; I could only smile slightly: "I have a three-bedroom apartment in Chaoyang District, 81 square meters."
"The housing prices in Chaoyang District... based on 81 square meters, your monthly mortgage must be over four thousand, right?" Liu Dan's eyes flickered. "May I ask how much your monthly salary is? From what I understand, hotel managers don't seem to earn particularly high salaries."
Faced with her somewhat aggressive questioning, I could only respond with a smile: "My parents bought the house for me; there’s no mortgage. So even though my salary is just over five thousand, it's enough."
Liu Dan nodded and then asked: "Since your parents bought the house for you, is it in their name?"
I replied blankly: "No, it's in my name—Li Xingbo."
Liu Dan seemed to enjoy this line of questioning: "If we were together, would your parents come live with you?"
"I think they would," I said somewhat confusedly. This answer wasn’t standard; President Wang had given me the standard answer that my parents have a three-story villa at home and they don’t like the hot weather in Star City, so they hardly ever come here.
"What if I don’t want to live with older people?" Liu Dan looked at me with interest.
Damn matchmaker; I'm done with this. Anger surged within me as I coldly laughed: "You wouldn’t have to live with them."
Liu Dan was taken aback. "What do you mean by that? Are you saying they won't live with us?"
I raised an eyebrow. "No, you don't have to live with them because there is no relationship between us."
Upon hearing this, Liu Dan looked at me with a flicker of curiosity in her eyes, revealing a strange expression. After a moment, she softly said, "Don't you think this conversation is going nowhere?"
I nodded without hesitation. "Just like you said earlier, if it's not suitable, we shouldn't waste each other's time. How about we end it here?"
Liu Dan smiled meaningfully and elegantly stood up. "Then I'll take my leave. It was nice to meet you."
Although I had already given up, out of courtesy, I stood up as well. "I hope you find a suitable prince charming."
Liu Dan smiled slightly and turned to leave. As for exchanging phone numbers, there was no hope for that.
I plopped heavily onto the sofa, pulled out a cigarette, lit it, took a puff, and let out a bitter laugh. How did it come to this? I came here as an undercover agent, not for matchmaking; why did I have to clash with her? If this mission failed, would President Wang give me another chance?
After finishing a cigarette and preparing to leave, the door opened, and Teacher Huang stepped in.
I smiled awkwardly. "Teacher Huang..."
Before I could finish, Teacher Huang interrupted me with a cheerful tone. "Not bad, Zheng Nan. I didn't realize you had this skill."
I was somewhat surprised. "What skill?"
"Playing hard to get! Stop pretending. Liu Dan just came to me asking for your phone number. She thinks you're quite interesting and has decided to give dating a try." Teacher Huang handed me a note with a number on it. "This is the number she left for you; it's her personal number. As for whether it's genuine or not, I can't say—she seemed sincere."
I took the note and glanced at the number—wow, three nines at the end; not bad at all. I casually tucked it into my pocket and couldn't help but boast, "Actually, many outstanding girls are moved by my depth..."
"Alright, stop patting yourself on the back. Just remember to withdraw after taking her out for a meal," Teacher Huang couldn't help but remind me.
After leaving the International Trade Building with Fatty, I asked him how things were going on his side. Fatty looked at me sideways and interpreted arrogance perfectly: "You little brat, did you make an appointment with this young master?"
Suddenly, there was a burst of laughter and scolding. Fatty then told me that he had started off a bit nervous, but later realized that the girl was even more nervous than him, which boosted his confidence and allowed him to successfully complete the task.
With Fatty's task completed, it was now my turn. While I was still hesitating about what reason to use to invite Liu Dan out, she called me directly, saying we would meet tomorrow evening at Qinghu Park.
"Ghost Brother, do you want me to buy you a chastity belt?" Fatty chuckled mischievously. "I think this Liu Dan is a bit desperate. If this continues, there might be a shocking brawl that would make even the Demon cry. Tsk tsk, I feel a bit sorry for Guo'er and Qingcheng..."
"Anyway, after this meeting, I plan to withdraw," I shook my head dismissively. "There's no way I would get involved with her."
"Withdraw... Tsk tsk, you're using that word too lightly." Fatty gave me a thumbs up.
...
Star City has a total of thirty-one large parks, not including cycling greenways and other locations. Among them, five parks are named after each district: Qinghu Park, Yuhua Park, Chaoyang Park, Qingxiu Park, and He Park. In terms of area, He Park is the largest, followed by Qinghu Park, while Qingxiu Park has lost more than half of its area to the high-speed railway station.
He Park is located in a remote area; although it has nice greenery, not many people visit it regularly. In contrast, Qinghu Park is different. The lake is a deep blue like a mirror, the grass is lush and green, and the rockery paths are faintly visible. Hundreds of camphor trees thick enough to be embraced by one person mix with other tree species to form a forest that feels refreshing at its center. Located in the bustling area of Star City, at night the park is filled with visitors. Especially now in midsummer, there are countless people coming to the park to cool off, making it very lively.
After some effort, I finally found Liu Dan among the crowd. Her outfit was quite different from yesterday; she wore denim overalls with a white shirt underneath. Her hair was casually tied back into a ponytail with a rubber band, and she carried a backpack on her back. She looked pure and cute. In her left hand was a bag of candied chestnuts, and in her right hand was her phone. Upon seeing me, she waved enthusiastically.
She tucked her phone into her pocket and cheerfully handed me the candied chestnuts while also giving me a black garbage bag. I took the garbage bag in surprise and asked, "What does this mean?"
"I'm going to eat candied chestnuts; I can't just throw garbage everywhere, can I?" Liu Dan said as she pulled out a few chestnuts from the bag. "It's fair; one for each of us, taking turns."
I smiled awkwardly and asked, "How do we take turns?"
Liu Dan peeled one chestnut and casually stuffed it into my mouth. "Just like this!"
I felt somewhat at a loss as I mechanically chewed on it. The chestnut was hot and sweet, but I hadn't swallowed any yet because my mind was racing: what does this Liu Dan mean? Is this considered starting a relationship? Isn't this too direct? Can't we have some foreplay first?
"Let's go for a walk over there," Liu Dan naturally linked her arm with mine and pointed towards the lake.
Hey! You're being so enthusiastic; how am I supposed to tell you later that we're not suited for each other? Should I push her away? Or wait until we get back to confront her?
Liu Dan smiled brightly as she shared some amusing stories about life. I responded with a half-hearted "uh-huh," and Liu Dan paused, her big eyes blinking at me. "Are you troubled?"
"Uh, well, yesterday I thought we were done for, and now suddenly things have changed. I'm a bit confused," I sighed, deciding it was time to lay everything out with Liu Dan because I was afraid I might forget to back out later.
"You were thinking about that," Liu Dan said with a charming smile. "Actually, I really love my parents. You see, I'm a very filial person."
"S?" I blurted out in English without knowing why.
"Putting myself in others' shoes, I believe the principle of being a good person is to treat your parents well. If you were to say you wouldn't live with your parents because of me, I would look down on you," Liu Dan said with a laugh. "But now I think you're at least a decent person, so I've decided to date you."
I sighed inwardly; I actually thought she was a good person too, but I couldn't continue this any longer. Closing my eyes, I recalled the breakup lines from the movie and forced a smile before opening my eyes. "Since we're being honest, I won't hide anything from you."
Liu Dan looked at me suspiciously. "What are you hiding from me?"
"Actually, I'm a hepatitis B patient, HBsAg positive." I turned my gaze toward the distant Sky Building, feeling that the Spearhead was unusually blood-red.
"You're lying!" Liu Dan gasped and then pulled at my arm vigorously. "Look at me again!"
"I'm a hepatitis B patient, HBsAg positive." My melancholic gaze met Liu Dan's as my words carried a sense of sorrow. After joking and deceiving for so many years, I still had some acting skills left.
