Zhong Kui's Diary
“Dad, do you really know everyone in the neighborhood?” Zhang Dingcheng said unhappily.
“I’ve been wandering around the area all the time; how could I not know every family? Besides, that middle-aged man with such a big belly, how could I not remember him?” Old Zhang retorted loudly, as if his authority had been challenged.
Hearing Old Zhang say this, a middle-aged man smoking by the Swimming Pool suddenly flashed into my mind. I quickly described this person's features to Old Zhang, who frowned and said, “Big belly, mole at the corner of his mouth, yes, that's him! Have you seen him?”
“Are you sure he’s not from your neighborhood?” I asked urgently.
“Of course I'm sure,” Old Zhang replied confidently.
I had a vague feeling that something was off; this middle-aged man seemed crucial.
When Zhou Zhixiong had his incident, he was wandering nearby, and the remote control for the black hand seemed to have floated up in his vicinity. Could it be that this middle-aged man was the one controlling the black hand?
Also, when Ying and Zhang Hao were swimming in the pool, this middle-aged man was also nearby. Could it be that the black handprint left on Ying's ankle was caused by the middle-aged man's remote-controlled hand? Perhaps he originally intended to grab Zhang Hao but mistakenly caught Ying's foot instead.
But that didn’t make sense; this was the Swimming Pool area. It was such a small place—how could the black hand drag Zhang Hao into the water and then knock him unconscious? And then what? Would the middle-aged man be able to pull Zhang Hao out of the water and carry him away without anyone noticing?
Damn it! If this middle-aged man isn’t from the neighborhood, then what is he doing lurking by the Swimming Pool in the dead of night? Uh… it seems there are still two teenagers swimming in the pool.
Thinking of this, I couldn’t help but stand up and rush outside.
Behind me, I heard Old Zhang calling out, “Zheng Nan, where are you going?”
I didn't look back and said, "I really need to go!"
"We have a restroom here."
"I prefer a quiet and natural environment for using the restroom."
...
Before I could reach the Swimming Pool, I heard a commotion coming from that direction. From a distance, I could see the door to the Swimming Pool had been opened, and about ten people were gathered around the poolside, chattering about something.
Along with me, there was a tall Middle-Aged Man. Judging by his attire and demeanor, he seemed to be a very successful individual. However, at that moment, his face was filled with anxiety. The man forcefully pushed through the crowd and found a middle-aged woman in pajamas sitting in the middle, crying loudly. There was also a boy in shorts trembling all over; he was likely one of the two boys who had been swimming.
The Middle-Aged Man urgently asked the crying woman, "Where is Yu?"
The woman seemed about to respond but choked on her words due to her sobbing, becoming increasingly unable to speak. The tall man stomped his foot and turned to the boy, asking, "Wu, what exactly happened?"
"I was swimming with Yu when suddenly he sank underwater. I quickly reached out to grab him." Although Wu looked terrified, he managed to explain clearly. It seemed he had already gone over this with the middle-aged woman before; no matter how shocking an event is, repeating it once makes it easier to recount the second time. "But it seemed like something was dragging Yu down at the bottom of the pool, moving very fast. He was pulled into the deep end in an instant."
"Were there any other people in the Swimming Pool at that time?" The Middle-Aged Man asked in surprise.
"No!" Wu whispered.
The Middle-Aged Man immediately became furious: "Are you out of your mind? Just the two of you—how could Yu be dragged away by someone!"
Wu seemed to be frightened by the angry shout from the Middle-Aged Man, trembling all over like a leaf in the wind. "Uncle, I... I really..."
Seeing everyone looking at the Middle-Aged Man and Wu, I secretly took out a shirt from the Mustard Seed Pendant and stepped into the crowd, handing the shirt to Wu. "Put this on first."
Wu looked at me gratefully and quickly pulled the shirt over himself.
The Middle-Aged Man appeared somewhat stunned, casting a suspicious glance at me before sternly asking, "Who are you?"
"Big Brother, let's take our time with this!" I smiled. "Even if you're anxious, it won't solve the problem."
"You're not the one whose child is in trouble, so of course you can say that." The Middle-Aged Man snorted, but his tone had calmed down a bit as he turned to Wu. "What happened next?"
"I was also scared and confused at that moment. I quickly climbed up to the Swimming Pool and shouted for help. After calling several times without anyone coming, I threw a few life rings into the water and found a bamboo pole to try to reach Yu. But Yu was moving too fast in the water; I couldn't catch up with him," Wu said, now that he had put on the shirt, his trembling had lessened.
I encouraged him by patting his shoulder. For a twelve or thirteen-year-old child, he had done quite well. "And then?"
"At that moment, a Fatty kicked open the door to the Swimming Pool and stood there watching for a while. Strangely enough, after this person stood there for a bit, Yu's speed slowed down and eventually moved slowly to this Fatty's feet," Wu frowned, his expression unusual. "On Yu's right foot, there was something black that looked like a hand!"
From the beginning, I knew this incident must be related to a black hand. Now that Wu mentioned it, I was even more certain that this Middle-Aged Fatty was the mastermind behind controlling the black hand. The Middle-Aged Man beside us angrily exclaimed, "What nonsense are you talking about? You must have seen it wrong! What happened to your Yu?"
"I don't know!" Wu stammered.
"What do you mean you don't know? Didn't this Fatty pull your Yu up? Why didn't you go take a look?" The Middle-Aged Man was furious.
"After this Fatty pulled Yu up, he just hugged him and ran outside. At that moment, I thought he was taking Yu to the hospital and wanted to follow him out. I didn't expect this Fatty to kick me into the Swimming Pool. By the time I climbed back up, he had already disappeared without a trace." Wu had a look of grievance on his face.
"Damn, who is this Fatty? How can the Public Security be so lax that all sorts of people can get in?" the middle-aged man cursed, glancing at me with an unspoken meaning in his eyes.
"I am a Senior Special Security Consultant from the Star City Public Security Bureau," I said casually. Well, it seemed like I wasn't actually in that position, but who cares? After all, that position doesn't exist.
"Are you a police officer?" The middle-aged man looked at me suspiciously.
"I haven't asked for your name yet," I replied, turning his question back on him.
"My name is Leizu Wu!" The middle-aged man couldn't help but lift his chin and puff out his chest when he mentioned his name, as if it were very famous.
However, this name indeed had some notoriety because even someone like me, who knows nothing about the business world, had heard of him.
I wasn't very familiar with the business figures in Star City. For example, when I was undercover at Rui Company under Sha Zhiyuan, Chen Jian mentioned the Four Great Tycoons of Star City, and I was left dumbfounded, completely clueless. Before the Kidnapping Case occurred, I didn't know who Zhou Mu Yang or Zhang Dingcheng were; it was similar to not knowing the names of the owners of Baidu or Sohu.
But I did know the name Leizu Wu. His rise to fame was widely known in Star City's underworld—he was considered an old-school figure in the underworld with the nickname Thunder God. He was particularly ruthless in fights and fled to Moon City after being involved in a serious injury case. When he left, he took two girls with him. After accumulating his first pot of gold there, he secretly returned to Star City. With money and sweet talk, he deceived five or six more girls into coming over, made money, and then returned to 'recruit'... At his peak, he had over forty girls under his command.
After accumulating a large amount of capital, Leizu Wu returned to Star City and paid someone to settle that injury case. He then opened the first club in Star City. Most of his previous girls followed him back and after two years transitioned into becoming madams. Because of this, resources for girls in his club were always abundant... After more than ten years of development, this club became the largest in Star City and had a prominent name: Emperor Club. Due to Emperor Club, Leizu Wu also ranked among the wealthy elite of Star City and was quite high on that list.
Hearing that this person before me was Leizu Wu made my heart skip a beat; this should be the third kidnapping case targeting wealthy individuals. Seeing police cars approaching from a distance, I grinned and lowered my voice: "Mr. Lei, let my colleagues handle things here; you come with me for a moment."
Leizu Wu glanced at me sideways: "Where to?"
"Go to Zhang Dingcheng's house! His child has also been kidnapped. I think this is the work of one person." I lowered my voice.
Leizu Wu was taken aback for a moment, then looked at me suspiciously. Finally, he said something to the middle-aged woman who was sobbing on the ground, patted Wu on the shoulder, and returned to my side. "Let's go!"
Upon arriving at Zhang Dingcheng's house, I pressed the doorbell and opened the door, walking into the living room.
Zhang Dingcheng seemed to recognize Leizu Wu. When he saw us enter, he was momentarily stunned, greeted Leizu Wu, and then continued smoking without much else.
"Zheng Nan, what's going on?" Old Zhang asked me.
"This Mr. Lei just had his son kidnapped," I said with a bitter smile.
"What?" The three members of the Zhang family gasped in shock. Then Zhang Dingcheng stared at Leizu Wu. "Your son Ray Yu has also been kidnapped?"
Leizu Wu nodded, reached for a cigarette from the coffee table, lit it up, and began smoking without caring about any formalities at that moment.
"It just happened at the swimming pool," I said hoarsely. "I called Mr. Lei over because I wanted everyone to recall if they had received any unusual messages recently or if they had offended anyone."
