Zhong Kui's Diary
After chatting with Wen Jianru and others for a while, I took my leave from the Dragon Palace.
As I floated upwards, I did not encounter those mushroom-headed Monster Fish. Instead, at a depth of over 1,000 meters, I saw the Giant Squid that had two of its tentacles bitten off by a Sperm Whale. Upon seeing me from a distance, the Giant Squid turned and fled.
I didn't expect to have some level of notoriety at the bottom of the sea.
Once aboard the submarine, I contacted Lou Wei. After the submarine had been traveling for quite some time, a Helicopter flew in to pick me up.
I arrived at a coastal airport and transferred to a passenger plane. Finally, after half a month, I returned to Star City.
The first thing I did was rush home and take a long shower. After washing up, I called Fatty and others, found a restaurant, and as soon as we sat down, I called over the waiter and ordered over ten heavy-flavored dishes from the menu, asking her to place the order quickly and also bring a case of beer.
During my time underwater, I had mostly been eating instant noodles. What? Dragon King Wen Jianru treated me to two banquets? Please, don’t make me cry. The chefs down there hardly used any salt in their cooking; perhaps they were tired of salty flavors. To put it simply, my mouth felt bland.
I downed a bottle of beer in one go, let out a satisfied burp, and asked Lingfeng: “So, is there any progress on the case involving Cheng Hao and Luo Jinyun?”
Lingfeng frowned and smiled bitterly: “How could there be any progress? It all involves Spells.”
That made sense; I didn’t dwell on it further. I recounted my experiences from my time underwater, and everyone was amazed. The women, especially Guo Er and Qing Cheng, were particularly interested in the deep-sea creatures. When they learned that I had killed a Sperm Whale and a mushroom Monster Fish, they all complained that I was too cruel.
Cruel? If I had reacted even slightly slower, I would have been torn apart and eaten! These women must have watched too many Animated Series; do they think all deep-sea creatures are like SpongeBob?
I pulled out the Bagua Plate that I had taken from Turtle Chancellor's neck and tossed it onto the table, asking if anyone recognized it. Upon seeing this item, Guo'er exclaimed.
“You recognize it?” I asked in surprise.
I had taken out this Bagua Plate mainly for Kong Xuan and Qingcheng to see since they are true Taoists with much more knowledge than my half-baked Grandmaster understanding. To my surprise, Guo'er was the first to recognize it.
Furrowing her brow, Guo'er picked up the Bagua Plate from the table and examined it closely for a while before confidently stating: “This plate belongs to Old Man Jin.”
"Old Man Jin?" I scratched my head. "You mean, Jin Manyuan?"
Guo'er nodded. "That's right, it must be his."
I pondered for a moment and pointed out the inconsistency. "Guo'er, you're only twenty-five this year, right? You came to Star City and joined the Jin Family three or four years ago. So even if you saw this plaque on Old Man Jin, that would have been in recent years. As far as I know, this plaque was tied around Turtle Chancellor's neck twenty-three years ago, so that seems unlikely!"
Hearing this, Guo'er frowned even more. "Anyway, I saw this plaque on Old Man Jin. Yes, it was around the time I got to know you. When I was checking Old Man Jin's health, I saw it next to his bedside table. I even held it in my hand and examined it; there's no way I could mistake it."
Wow, Guo'er is so certain about this. What could be going on?
Fatty chuckled from the side. "Ghost Brother, this is easy to explain."
"Oh?" I raised an eyebrow at him.
"It's like how our phones are the same brand and look identical. Similarly, there could be several Bagua Plates out there, right? Even if Old Man Jin has one, the person who plotted against Turtle Chancellor might have one too; that's not unusual. Who knows, they might even be brothers! Their master could have given each of them one before they descended the mountain, hahaha." Fatty laughed a couple of times, paused, and added, "There's also a possibility that both plates belong to Old Man Jin, and he was the one who plotted against Turtle Chancellor. Maybe he thought the Book of Life and Death was in the Dragon Palace, haha."
What Fatty said isn't impossible. Although I've never seen Old Man Jin use a spell, for someone who has lived for eight hundred years, it's not surprising if he can cast spells. As the saying goes, even a chicken that lives for eight hundred years would turn into a refined chicken.
Could it really have been done by Jin Manyuan?
After thinking for a while and feeling overwhelmed, I decided to stop pondering it. Regardless of whether Jin Manyuan did it or not—he's already dead; what does it matter?
Not wanting to dwell on the matter any longer, we had a meal together before everyone dispersed.
As I walked onto the street, the heat outside was intense. I thought about taking a nap and reviewing my studies when Guo'er reminded me that tonight was her adoptive father Jin Zhenzhong's birthday and she needed to go help out. I suggested with lowered eyes that after holding back for half a month, they should at least go back and reconcile their differences. To my surprise, Guo'er smiled and said she was going to visit relatives. She turned to Qingcheng, who also smiled and told me that when two women spend too much time together, their physiological cycles tend to synchronize...
I couldn't take this anymore! Watching the two women giggle as they walked away made me feel an urge to invite Fatty to go for health treatment.
My phone rang with a fixed number: 46615. This number seemed familiar because we often used such numbers to call others in Star City; all numbers starting with 46 belong to street payphone booths.
When I answered the call, the person on the other end simply said one thing: "Hurry to Yunyang Street!" Then without waiting for my response, they hung up the phone.
What the hell! Why should I listen to you and go to Yunyang Street? I'm not an idiot.
Uh... being an idiot is fine, anyway, I'm only about three hundred meters away from Yunyang Street now.
Yunyang Street is a name only the old residents of Star City would know. It used to be an alley, but after being redeveloped, the farmer's houses in the alley were replaced by high-rise buildings, and Yunyang Street was renamed Zhenye Road. However, since this is still the Old Town District, high-rises cannot occupy all the space. At the end of Zhenye Road, there are still about ten three or four-story farmer's houses, and in front of these houses, there are dozens of massage shops with pink lights...
This is the red-light district of Star City; strictly speaking, this is the area for the yellow industry in Star City. The salons here offer good quality at reasonable prices, with a nationwide standard price of one hundred and thirty.
After wandering around Yunyang Street, I noticed that at every massage shop with pink lights, there were several girls dressed in revealing outfits standing at the entrance. Upon seeing me, they all called out sweetly for me to come in and have some fun. One girl in a short skirt even lifted her skirt to reveal a glimpse of black underneath.
It seems this phone call was just a prank; it might be that the bosses on Yunyang Street are deliberately playing tricks. If they make a hundred calls and even ten people enter their salons, they would still profit.
With a bitter smile, I turned to leave. I have been away for too long; if I stay any longer, I might not be able to resist rushing in and battling it out with these girls for three hundred rounds.
After walking a few steps, a woman in hot pants and a tank top rushed out from a shop called Fei Fei Health Massage. She opened her arms and blocked my way: "Big brother, come play! No matter how far apart we are, there's always affection. How about a massage?"
Hearing what she said, I couldn't help but pause and instinctively replied: "There are plenty of fish in the sea; I don't do anything over fifty."
The woman chuckled seductively: "Fate brings us together from afar; one hundred dollars is really not expensive!"
I was even more surprised: "There’s true affection in this world; today I'll bring eighty!"
She shot me a flirtatious glance: "Big brother, deal! Come on in and have some fun!"
Following her into the dimly lit massage room, as soon as we entered, she turned around to close the door. I snorted coldly: "Yun Zhihan, what exactly do you want?"
Those few sentences were our agreed-upon code; originally meant to avoid being guessed by others, I didn't expect Yun Zhihan to disguise himself as a street freelancer to contact me. Was he trying to make the code more vivid?
"Zheng Nan! I've run into trouble!" In such a small massage room, the woman almost leaned in close to me, but her voice had already changed to Yun Zhihan's voice.
"What happened?" I frowned and asked.
“Qu Wubing is dead!” Yun Zhihan's voice trembled slightly.
“What?” I exclaimed in surprise, “Aren't you two always together?”
“That’s right, we’ve always been together, but about four hours ago, I was a bit bored and played around with Zhu Qi. Naturally, Qu Wubing couldn’t be there at that time. When I got back home, I found Qu Wubing hanging halfway from the chandelier in the room.” Yun Zhihan seemed to calm down a little, his voice less frantic.
“What kind of nonsense is this? What do you mean he was hanging halfway from the chandelier?” I asked angrily.
“His upper body was hanging from the chandelier, while everything below his navel was completely missing. The wound was unusually clean, as if it had been sliced in half by a sharp knife in an instant. However, all the intestines and internal organs inside were gone…”
“Alright, enough.” I quickly interrupted Yun Zhihan's description. Damn, I just finished eating, and one of the dishes was stir-fried intestines; are you trying to make me vomit? After pondering for a moment, I asked, “But wasn’t this mysterious person after the Yin-Yang Ancient Coin? If so, it should have been you hanging from the chandelier.”
Yun Zhihan shot me a sideways glance, his face filled with anger: “Are you implying that it’s surprising I’m not dead?”
I ignored Yun Zhihan's feelings and said slowly, “Let’s get to the point. If I were the mysterious person and took advantage of your separation, why would I kill Qu Wubing? What good would that do?”
Yun Zhihan's expression darkened significantly; his face shifted between red and blue for quite some time before he finally replied, “Because he wasn’t sure who had the Yin-Yang Ancient Coin. We’ve been taking turns keeping it.”
