Zhong Kui's Diary
"We're here to steal too. Let's each take our own path; you take your sunny road, and I'll take my narrow bridge. Our waters won't interfere with each other." I stepped out of the cabinet and chuckled softly.
The woman paused for a moment at my words, then her eyes curved into crescent shapes, revealing an extremely pure smile on her face. "What are you here to steal? It wouldn't happen to be the same thing I'm stealing, would it?"
Honestly, when she smiled like that, my heart skipped a beat, and an extremely wicked thought popped into my mind. This girl is so pure and beautiful; it would feel great to have her beneath me, listening to her gentle coos.
Suddenly startled, I thought, what’s happening? When did I become such a beast?
Just as I felt something was off, I heard Shen Sipan beside me breathing heavily like a beast. Turning to look, I found his eyes were bloodshot, filled with desire. He took a step forward and reached out his hands toward the woman, seemingly wanting to pull her into his embrace.
"What are you doing?" I slapped Shen Sipan on the head.
The beastly light in Shen Sipan's eyes vanished instantly, replaced by confusion. After staring blankly for a second or two, he looked at me in surprise. "Boss Zhong, what just happened?"
I didn’t answer Shen Sipan's question but narrowed my eyes at the woman instead and sneered, "Who exactly are you? How did you cast a charm on us?"
Charm is a type of Taoist Spell. From its name, it sounds somewhat evil, but in reality, it is a significant branch of Taoist Spell. Techniques like heart capture and hypnosis fall under this category.
I recognized this charm because Kong Xuan had once used this kind of Spell on us. At that time, Fatty had scoffed at it, thinking that all the girls in health treatment knew charms. Naturally, Kong Xuan scolded him thoroughly, saying that charms are authentic Taoist Spells.
Later on, I asked Qingcheng, who added that in today's world, the most powerful charm practitioners are from the Song Family.
Nan Kong, Eastern Song, and West Gao represent the four major sects of human Taoism. The Nan Kong and Kong Xuan families belong to one sect while the Beixiao family belongs to the Xiao Qingcheng family. As for the Eastern Song and West Gao, they have long since fallen from prominence, but their foundations are still formidable. For instance, Gao Youdi, a member of the Gao Family, possessed magical powers that placed him among the top masters of his time.
The girl in front of me, who was using charm techniques, must be from the Song Family.
Seeing that I was not affected by her allure, the big-eyed woman was slightly surprised, and a bright smile appeared on her face: "Big brother, what are you talking about? What is this charm technique?"
Her dazzling smile stirred something within me, causing my blood to rush in two directions—one towards my head and the other towards my lower body. In an instant, I felt my mind clouded, only thinking about pinning this big-eyed beauty down and indulging in her a hundred times, while my abdomen felt like it was on fire, and something had already stood up.
Fortunately, the magical energy within me was not to be underestimated. Sensing the danger, it surged forward to combat those evil thoughts. Soon enough, I regained my clarity.
Shaking my head vigorously, I recalled Kong Xuan's words—there are many types of charm techniques, and allure is one of them. If one relies solely on exposing their body along with a teasing smile, that is the most basic form of allure; if a pure and bright face can stir your heart, then it has reached the intermediate level of allure; as for the highest level, even if Sister Feng smiles at you, you would recklessly rush forward to indulge with her over and over again until you are completely exhausted...
The smile of this big-eyed beauty was pure and radiant but could still stir my emotions. This clearly indicated that her charm technique had at least reached the intermediate level. Luckily, my magical energy was still relatively abundant, which prevented me from falling under her spell.
Taking a deep breath, I slowly asked, "Are you from the Song Family?"
The woman was taken aback: "Who are you?"
"I am a friend of Kong Xuan, the current leader of the Southern School of Confucius, and also the boyfriend of Xiao Qingcheng from the Northern Faction Xiao Family. By the way, do you know Gao Family? I killed Gao Youdi!" I counted off three fingers as I listed them. Yes, I was bragging; after all, she wouldn't know the truth.
"You are Gui Ge Zhong Zhengnan?" The big-eyed beauty looked at me with surprise and suspicion.
"Ghost Brother! Not Gui!" I quickly corrected her.
"It shouldn't be wrong; others can't resist my charming smile!" The big-eyed beauty smiled brightly and extended her delicate hand towards me: "My name is Song Xi, the sixth alternate of the Thirty-Fifth Generation Sect Leader of the Song Family. You can also call me Mengmeng."
"Sixth Substitute of the Thirty-Fifth Generation Sect Leader? Tsk tsk, it seems the Song Family has quite a number of people, even the Sect Leader has six substitutes." I lightly shook hands and smiled, "Mengmeng... Hmph, I'll just call you Song Xi. What brings you here?"
Song Xi immediately looked displeased, "Are you looking down on me by not calling me Mengmeng?"
"Mengmeng, what are you looking for here?" I chuckled.
"The Washing Marrow Classic!" Song Xi replied slowly.
I couldn't help but glance at Shen Sipan, and sure enough, Shen Sipan's eyes widened in disbelief, "How is that possible? There's no such thing as the Washing Marrow Classic in this world!"
Song Xi frowned and glanced at Shen Sipan before turning to me, "Ghost Brother, who is this person?"
"His name is Shen Sipan, my assistant!" I introduced with a smile.
"Assistant comrade, remember to raise your hand next time before speaking. I'm discussing important matters with your boss, got it?" Song Xi said seriously to Shen Sipan.
Shen Sipan muttered, "What's so impressive about that? It's just the sixth substitute!"
Seeing Song Xi's expression change, I quickly interjected, "By the way, Mengmeng, your family has such a thriving population, why is it that your reputation isn't as good as the Kong Family or Xiao Family?"
Song Xi shot a fierce glare at Shen Sipan and waved her fist threateningly before turning back to me, "Ghost Brother, who told you our family is thriving?"
"Isn't it obvious? Your Sect Leader has six substitutes!" I shrugged my shoulders.
"That's because our family only has six people in total now," Song Xi pouted. "Ever since Grandpa passed away, my grandma, my dad, my mom, my older brother, my Second Sister, and I have all been vying to be the leader. Since I'm the youngest, naturally, I'm the sixth alternate for the position."
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. We're all family; what is there to fight about? After a moment of silence, I finally chuckled and said, "Don't you guys know to use a scientific method like drawing lots, playing rock-paper-scissors, or rolling dice to decide?"
Song Xi shook her head. "We've tried all that. Rock-paper-scissors, dice games, Mahjong, poker—every conceivable duel method we've used, but we still couldn't determine a winner."
After a pause, seeing that I didn't respond, Song Xi continued, "In the end, we decided that everyone would go out and travel for a year. When we return, each person must bring back something. Whoever brings back the most beneficial item for the family will become the Thirty-Fifth Generation Sect Leader!"
I laughed heartily. "So you came to Shaolin Temple looking for the Yi Jin Jing and the Washing Marrow Classic?"
Song Xi nodded.
"My assistant here has also tried to steal the Yi Jin Jing before!" I pointed at Shen Sipan and joked, "Unfortunately, he was undercover at Shaolin Temple for over a month and searched through the scripture repository but found nothing. That's why he believes the Yi Jin Jing doesn't exist."
Song Xi snorted but didn't say anything. Instead, she pulled out a beautifully bound notebook from her monk robe. It was my kind of notebook—not digital but an actual notebook that you can write in.
The notebook was slightly larger than a palm and featured a beautiful woman on the cover—Zhao Yazhi, known as the White Lady from The Legend of the New White Snake. Even if you haven't seen The Legend of the New White Snake, you've probably heard that song—ha ah ah, ha ah ah, West Lake's beautiful scenery in March...
This indicated that the notebook was somewhat old.
I was puzzled by Song Xi's intention and pointed at the notebook while furrowing my brows to express my confusion.
Song Xi raised her eyebrows and said, "You take a look!"
I took the notebook and opened the cover, only to see three words written on the title page: Washing Marrow Classic.
I could guess the character for 'marrow' since the person who wrote it only wrote the character for 'bone' and then drew a black blob next to it. Fortunately, it was labeled with the pinyin shui above, which allowed me to confirm that it was 'Marrow'. Cough, this pinyin was also incorrect; 'Marrow' should be pronounced sui.
Flipping further, I found various cultivation methods inside. However, I estimated that no one would dare to practice according to this notebook. Just on the first page summary, there were about ten black blobs and twenty typos...
"Is this Washing Marrow Classic?" I closed the notebook and handed it back to Song Xi, smiling.
Song Xi nodded as he took it back and said seriously, "The original version of the Yi Jin Jing Washing Marrow Classic has long been lost. It has always been passed down orally from one generation of sect leaders to the next. The current sect leader Master Kongru, along with Kong Jian, Kongwen, and Kongxing, are known as the new generation of 'Four Emptiness' of Shaolin Temple. The four of them have a good relationship privately, and the techniques in this notebook were extracted from Kongjian Monk and Kongwen Monk after getting Kongxing drunk."
I laughed and pointed at Kongwen Monk on the ground: "Did you deliberately pretend to be a sex worker to get close to Kongwen Monk? Is that where this Yi Jin Jing is hidden?"
"They each have their own copy!" Song Xi looked disdainfully at Kongwen Monk, spitting in contempt: "This old Stupid Donkey only knows how to get hands-on. I didn't even have time to extract information before I was forced to knock him out."
I laughed heartily, then lowered my voice, afraid of being overheard from outside: "There shouldn't be anything you're looking for in the cabinet behind me because it's empty."
Song Xi glanced at the cabinet as well, his face showing a frustrated expression: "Where would this old Stupid Donkey hide the Yi Jin Jing?"
