Zhong Kui's Diary
I did not answer her because that tractor had left me dumbfounded.
This tractor was casually parked on a tree root over a meter high, with its front end leaning against the root at an incredible angle. At first glance, it looked like the front half of the tractor was suspended above the root, but upon closer inspection, it seemed as if the front end had crashed into the root.
The situation was incredibly mysterious, giving a sense of spatial dislocation.
"Hey! Are you deaf?" The girl shouted impatiently.
"What?" I finally snapped back to reality and asked in astonishment.
"I asked you, didn't you activate the entire Life and Death Treasure Mirror Array?" The girl frowned at me.
"Yes, yes! I did!" I hurriedly replied, but I was very surprised by her question. What did she mean by that?
Just after activating the last formation, a strange tractor appeared, and the one driving it was a delicate yet eccentric girl. From her tone, it seemed she was related to the activated formation.
"You'd better hurry up and get in!" The girl gestured with her chin toward the driver's seat.
"Are you really talking to me?" I pointed at my own nose in disbelief. "Are you asking me to get in?"
"Is there anyone else here besides us? A big man like you is just dawdling around, why so much nonsense?" The girl raised an eyebrow and snorted coldly, patting the seat beside her. "Don't you want to go to the Hall of Life and Death? Only I can take you there!"
What?!
She actually came to take me to the Hall of Life and Death?!
And she drove such a flashy tractor to pick me up for the Hall of Life and Death?!
I suddenly felt my mind was in a whirl; a delicate girl spoke like a tough woman, which wasn’t surprising. What was surprising was that this tough girl actually wanted to drive a Tractor to take me to the Hall of Life and Death.
“Hey, what are you waiting for?” The girl shot me a fierce glare.
In shock, I walked over and sat beside her. The girl huffed, then pulled out a rusty Hand Crank from under the seat. She got out of the vehicle, walked to the front of the Tractor, inserted the Hand Crank into the Engine, grabbed the handle with both hands, and quickly cranked it several times until the Tractor roared back to life.
The girl pulled out the Hand Crank and returned to the vehicle. As she was getting in, she casually tossed the handle into the back compartment of the Tractor. Anyone in that situation would instinctively perk up their ears to listen for the clattering sound of the handle landing in the compartment. I was no exception, but after listening for two or three seconds without hearing anything, I turned around in surprise only to find that there was nothing in the back compartment; the Hand Crank had seemingly vanished.
I turned back, dumbfounded, and asked the girl in astonishment, “What’s going on?”
The girl frowned at my question. “Did you really activate the Life and Death Treasure Mirror Array?”
“Yes!” I nodded.
“Come on, you’re someone who understands Spells; why do you look so clueless? Haven’t you seen a Spatial Bag before? Isn’t that Mustard Seed Pendant hanging around your neck?” The girl looked at me with some disdain, then reached out and grabbed at the air. Suddenly, a handle appeared in her hand, which she tossed into the back compartment again, making it disappear.
This time I saw clearly; she hadn’t thrown it away but had placed it into a ring on her finger.
Clearly, this ring was a Spatial Bag; she had simply put the Hand Crank inside it. I felt like such an idiot for not noticing such a simple trick.
The girl shook her head and sighed as if disappointed by my lack of understanding. Without saying anything more, she gripped the Tractor's steering wheel, shifted gears, pressed the accelerator, and drove straight ahead.
Due to inertia, my body leaned slightly backward. I steadied myself and looked forward, only to feel a chill run down my spine.
Damn it! That Eternal Redwood ahead had a trunk as thick as a city wall! Were we really going to crash into it?
Just as I was about to shout a warning, something even more bizarre happened: I saw the front of the Tractor pass right through the trunk.
Indeed, it passed through without any obstruction, without any impact, as if the Eternal Redwood was just an illusory shadow ahead.
How is this possible? I had clearly touched the Eternal Redwood before; this Trunk is definitely not an illusion!
If the Trunk is not an illusion, could it be that this Tractor is an illusion?
That is even more impossible; I am still sitting on this Tractor.
There was no time to think about that anymore. The front of the Tractor had already passed through the Eternal Redwood. In the blink of an eye, this wall-like Trunk was right in front of me. Instinctively, I reached out my hands to push it. Just as my hands touched the Trunk, the surrounding environment suddenly changed. The Eternal Redwood and the primitive forest all vanished, replaced by a sparkling starry sky filled with Starbursts. The Tractor flew rapidly through this starry expanse like a starship.
However, this starry sky was not a true starry sky; it was a space composed of countless silver-white Starbursts the size of fists. Aside from the Starbursts, there was only darkness. Occasionally, a Starburst would collide with the Tractor, bursting forth in a dazzling display like fireworks before disappearing into the endless blackness.
After finally regaining my senses, I turned to look at the girl beside me and asked in confusion, "What is happening?"
"This is the road to the Hall of Life and Death!" The girl casually rested one hand on the Tractor's handle, pulled out a cigarette and lit it, nonchalantly crossing her legs. Her long skirt slid down her smooth thigh, revealing underwear decorated with SpongeBob.
I couldn't focus on anything else and quickly pointed at her exposed skin, exclaiming, "Hey, I saw SpongeBob!"
The girl glanced at me dismissively and pouted, "So what? Do you want to shake hands with it? Besides, will showing you make me lose any flesh?"
"Uh, naturally not," I replied awkwardly.
"Then that's settled." The girl rolled her eyes and boredly looked ahead while exhaling smoke.
I didn't know what else to say and could only stare blankly at the starry sky ahead. At first, I found it refreshing, but after several minutes, I felt it was extremely dull. I casually asked, "Beautiful lady, what should I call you? I'm Zhong Zhengnan."
"Just call me A Li!" The girl flicked her cigarette butt into the starry sky and glanced back at me with a half-smile in her eyes. "Is this how you humans flirt with girls?"
I chuckled lightly, "This most ordinary greeting, flirting is not that simple! It's a skill! It involves knowledge from various fields such as behavioral science, psychology, environmental science, meteorology, and physiology."
The girl, A Li, brightened up, her face showing great interest. "Oh, it's that scholarly? Then tell me, how did you flirt with girls before?"
"Honestly, I'm not sure! Because I rarely flirt with girls," I shook my head and smiled wryly. "If there's a chance, I can introduce you to my friend; he's good at this!"
"Hmph, you don't even know the answer to a simple question. How boring!" A Li pouted and huffed.
I also felt it was somewhat dull and cleared my throat. "By the way, A Li, how long will this road take?"
"Well, how long it takes completely depends on your ability!" A Li glanced at me.
"What do you mean?" I was taken aback.
"You'll find out soon enough." A Li stretched lazily and smiled at me, her face suddenly blooming like spring flowers.
"Hey, you look great when you smile. Why does Boss have a serious face?" I asked curiously.
"I've always been alone; who do I smile for?" A Li turned to look at me, her eyes filled with confusion.
"Alone?" I repeated in surprise.
"Alright, you can pass the first test now." A Li raised an eyebrow and suddenly turned the tractor sharply. In an instant, the starry sky disappeared before my eyes, replaced by a section of a crumbling Great Wall. Moreover, the tractor stopped right next to the burial site of the Greedy Wolf Formation.
Just like before the Eternal Redwood, the tractor inexplicably parked on this slope. This slope was nearly sixty degrees steep, yet it stood firmly on it. The entire front of the tractor was embedded in the slope while the back of the trailer hung in mid-air, as if it were a nail driven into a wooden board. What was strange was that I could clearly see the front of the tractor as if the soil of the slope were transparent.
I didn't bother asking A Li what was going on with this tractor; I could guess her answer without asking—did you really activate a magic circle? Why do you look like you've never seen anything like this before...
Walking to the bushes where the Greedy Wolf Platform was buried, I immediately spotted the discarded water bottle I had thrown away. Feeling a bit embarrassed, I kicked it away and turned to A Li, asking, "What are we doing here?"
"After activating the magic circle, there's one last step: we need to take out all the Books of Life and Death and merge them into our bodies. This is necessary because we will need the Books of Life and Death when entering the Hall of Life and Death," A Li replied calmly as he walked down to stand beside me.
"Really?" I looked at A Li with suspicion.
Wait, did I remember incorrectly? Didn't Jin Manyuan say that activating all seven magic circles would allow us to enter the Hall of Life and Death directly? Why did A Li want to come back for the Books of Life and Death?
Is Jin Manyuan lying, or is A Li deceiving me?
If what Jin Manyuan said was true, once all seven magic circles were activated, the Books of Life and Death would scatter across the world again. How could they still be here?
Seeing my expression, A Li suddenly became furious and said sharply, "What do you mean? Do you think I'm lying to you? Fine, even if I am lying, let me ask you: what do you have that is worth my deception?"
My chastity! I couldn't help but want to respond loudly.
I forced a laugh and pointed at the bushes hiding the Greedy Wolf Platform. "But I've heard from others that once all seven magic circles are activated, those Books of Life and Death will scatter all over the world!"
