Zhong Kui's Diary
The Jade Bees seemed to be quite afraid of the torches. When they saw us waving the torches, they retreated several meters, but they did not give up. Once we passed by, they surged forward, maintaining a distance of three to four meters, buzzing behind us.
As a result, Fatty, who was responsible for covering our rear, started yelling frantically, urging us to hurry up.
We ran quickly and soon passed through the long corridor of the Training Room, arriving at a hall with three wooden doors. I initially thought that once we reached here and closed the door, we could isolate the Jade Bees. However, upon seeing the door, I couldn't help but curse; damn it, the door had already been smashed by Yang Guo.
However, I quickly devised a plan. After Fatty and the others came out, I instructed them to head upstairs first. Then I threw the iron pickaxe along with some burning clothes into the corridor and pulled out two bottles of Erguotou, smashing them near the pickaxe. Flames immediately shot up, and in the glow of the fire, I could see those Jade Bees retreating.
Damn, go die!
I took out a grenade from my Mustard Seed Pendant, pulled out the pin, and tossed it into the fire before turning to run.
I swear that even when chased by three wild dogs before, I had never run this fast. I dashed through the hall and sprinted down the five-meter-long slanted corridor until I reached the cellar filled with sweet potatoes. Only then did I hear a loud explosion behind me; after all, this type of grenade has a delay of only four seconds.
"Damn!" I cursed as I looked up to see Fatty and the others watching me from above the cellar. Upon seeing me emerge, their eyes flashed with joy.
I leaped forcefully; as my momentum began to fade, I pushed off against the side wall with my left foot and propelled myself upward to the right. As I descended again, I kicked off against the opposite wall with my right foot and soared up again, twisting in mid-air before landing beside the cellar. I looked at Wen Zhan and asked, "How is Qianqian?"
Wen Zhan glanced at Wen Qianqian in his arms and nodded with a wry smile. "Her breathing is much more stable than before; it seems that antidote has some effect."
Just as he finished speaking, Wen Qianqian suddenly stirred awake with a soft sound. Wen Zhan was overjoyed: "Qianqian, you've woken up!"
Qianqian looked around with a somewhat confused expression as if she couldn't remember what had happened. After scanning us one by one, she snapped back to reality and let out a loud "Ah!"
Wen Zhan immediately asked anxiously, "Qianqian, what's wrong?"
"Is my face very ugly?" Wen Qianqian reached out to touch her face.
I quickly blocked her hand and smiled. "You just got stung a few times; you've already taken the antidote and will be fine soon. But you can't touch your face right now; otherwise..."
"What will happen otherwise?" Wen Qianqian and Wen Zhan asked in unison.
"Otherwise, it will hurt a lot," I said, touching my nose and smiling.
"Pfft!" Wen Qianqian laughed at me, "Ghost Brother, you're not doing much better yourself."
I was surprised, "What's wrong with me?"
"Your hair!" Wen Qianqian giggled.
Only then did I feel a chill on my head and realized something was off. I reached up to touch my hair. Sure enough, my hair looked like scorched straw, all uneven and patchy. I couldn't help but laugh and scratch my scalp, "I've wanted to shave my head for a long time; now I finally have the resolve to do it."
Looking back at the passage below the cellar, smoke began to waft out. After a moment of contemplation, I called everyone to move further away and took out a grenade, tossing it into the cellar entrance. With a loud bang, the entrance collapsed, completely burying the passage below. I then turned and said, "I'll call Lou Wei to bring over some gear."
Fatty asked in surprise, "What kind of gear do you need?"
"Something like a spacesuit for chemical protection, and a flamethrower. With that gear, I can dig open the passage and charge in to take out all the Jade Bees inside," I said through gritted teeth.
"Haha, by the time you dig open the passage, those Jade Bees will probably have starved to death," Wen Zhan said cheerfully as he saw that Wen Qianqian seemed fine.
"Then I'll ask him to bring an excavator over," I chuckled.
"But if Lou Wei comes, all that gold inside will belong to the state," Fatty said with reluctance.
"We'll take some first; the rest can go to the state. I don't think Lou Wei would oppose that," I replied with a smile. "For us, one hundred million is not much different from ten billion, but for the country, it's different. Right, Wen Zhan? What about you?"
Wen Zhan looked affectionately at Wen Qianqian in his arms: "We’re not short on money; we came here originally to gain life experience. After this incident, all I want is to hurry back and marry Qianqian; everything else is unimportant."
"Haha, that's fine, but we can't work for nothing. How about this: we'll each take ten gold bricks, and the rest will go to the state." I smiled at Early Summer: "Early Summer, you don't mind, do you?"
Early Summer didn't hesitate either and laughed, "Damn it, with such a pleasant deal, of course I don't mind."
After discussing the situation with Lou Wei, he was overjoyed and said he would head over immediately. After hanging up the phone, I noticed that the sun had already set and darkness was about to fall. I joked, "Even if Lou Wei leaves right away, it will still take him until the next afternoon to arrive. We'll be camping here tonight."
Wen Zhan glanced at Wen Qianqian's face and noticed that the antidote was already taking effect; the swelling on Wen Qianqian's face was gradually subsiding. He smiled and nodded, saying, "We have no objections."
Early Summer also chimed in with a smile, "I have no objections either."
I turned to look at the wooden cabin frame behind me and felt a bit regretful. If we hadn't dismantled the cabin earlier, at least we would have had some shelter from the wind and rain. Now, we could only hope it wouldn't rain tonight; otherwise, it would be troublesome.
After gathering a large pile of wooden planks and chopping down two thick Sea Bowl trees, we lit a big fire. By this time, it was already dark. We took out some food to share and chatted for a while.
Checking my phone, I saw it was already eight o'clock in the evening. We discussed the duty schedule: Wen Zhan would take the first shift, followed by Wen Qianqian, Fatty, myself, and finally Early Summer would take the last shift. Each shift would last two hours, covering us until six in the morning.
Fortunately, with five of us rotating shifts, there was plenty of time to rest.
Fatty rummaged through the ruins of the cabin and brought over several blankets, saying with a laugh, "Although there's a lot of dust, it's better than nothing. You can decide what you want; I'm going to sleep first." With that, he spread out a blanket for himself and quickly fell asleep.
After chatting with Wen Zhan and the others for a while, I also drifted off to sleep. The events of this day had been more than what I usually experienced in a week; I felt utterly exhausted both physically and mentally.
When I suddenly woke up in the middle of the night, I found that the fire was nearly extinguished. I hurriedly added some wood to it and checked the time—it was one-thirty in the morning. According to the duty schedule, Fatty was supposed to be on duty from midnight until two. I couldn't help but mutter under my breath about Fatty: "Damn it, is this how you handle your shift?"
Fatty was curled up like a shrimp in deep sleep. I didn't bother waking him up; instead, I took out a cigarette and lit it by the fire.
After taking just a couple of puffs, I sensed something was off because Fatty's breathing sounded very strange—sometimes long and sometimes short. Listening closely, I realized his breathing had a peculiar rhythm: he would take a deep breath in and hold it for about ten seconds before exhaling in just one second. Then came short inhalations followed by long exhalations... this odd pattern continued in cycles.
Was Fatty practicing some kind of Sunflower Manual Divine Skill? Why was his breathing so bizarre? Having gone through life-and-death situations with him many times before, I had never noticed his breathing being this strange.
Just as I was about to wake Fatty up, I noticed in the flickering firelight that there was a faint green hue on his face. Thinking my eyes were playing tricks on me, I rubbed them and looked again; that faint green still lingered there. To my shock, this green color seemed to be slowly moving across Fatty's face.
Turning to look at the others, I saw they too had a faint green hue slowly shifting across their faces. Moreover, their breathing mirrored Fatty's—sometimes long and sometimes short.
What on earth is happening? Are they all poisoned? Or am I seeing things? I quickly pulled out my phone and switched to selfie mode; looking into the camera revealed that there was no such green hue on my face.
A wave of doubt washed over me. If I was poisoned, why was I unaffected? Surely, I couldn't be immune to all toxins.
I pushed Fatty hard, but aside from a mumble that sounded like a dreamlike murmur, Fatty showed no response. This surprised me even more. After all, Fatty was also a martial artist. If he lacked this level of awareness, then his training could only have led to two outcomes: either he was expelled from his master’s teachings or he was beaten to death by his master.
Feeling both alarmed and angry, I stood up and pulled out my Shotgun, flicked away the cigarette butt, and shouted sternly, "Who is messing around? Who?"
Aside from the faint echo coming from the Gorge in front of me, there was no response.
In a moment of desperation, I kicked Fatty in the rear twice. Only then did Fatty rub his eyes and wake up, showing no signs of pain but instead looking at me with a confused expression. "Brother Ghost, what happened?"
"You've been poisoned!" I said sharply.
"I’ve been poisoned?" Fatty exclaimed in shock, quickly checking himself. "Oh, really? My... it's already hard! This must be some kind of strange aphrodisiac! What should I do? Do I need to... you know... with other women hundreds of times to detoxify? Looks like I'll have to ask Early Summer for help."
As he spoke, he angrily walked towards Early Summer. "Damn it, I've guarded my chastity for so long, and now it’s going to be so easily given away!"
