Zhong Kui's Diary
Strangely, the giant beast not only seemed unscathed but appeared to be provoked, letting out a roar and quickening its pace, soon closing the distance to just fifteen or sixteen meters from us.
“Fatty, get down.”
I raised the Rocket Launcher and pulled the trigger. With a whoosh, the rocket shot towards the monster's head. At the same time, I tossed the Rocket Launcher aside and leaped diagonally backward, landing on the ground and curling up to protect my head.
I had no idea how powerful the shockwave from this Rocket Launcher would be, but I was certain it would be stronger than a Grenade. Given the current distance of only fifteen or sixteen meters, it seemed safer to stay low.
However, I never expected the power of this Rocket Launcher to be so immense. With a tremendous explosion, a fierce shockwave swept over me. Even though I was lying flat on the ground, it felt as if I had been hit hard by a dump truck. Fortunately, there were no obstacles in front of me, and I was pushed forward by the shockwave, which somewhat mitigated its force. Even so, I was thrown three meters away and coughed up a mouthful of blood, my entire body in excruciating pain and unable to move.
Struggling to look towards Fatty's direction, I found him lying motionless by the side of the street. Panic surged in my heart as I shouted hoarsely, “Fatty! Are you dead?”
Hearing my call, Fatty finally moved his head slightly after a while and struggled to lift it. “Not dead!”
Immediately, both of us found this exchange somewhat amusing and let out silly laughs. Fatty seemed to be injured more severely than I was; he lay on the ground almost unable to move while I exerted great effort to sit up. Looking around, I saw that the mountain-like monster had been struck directly by the Rocket Launcher and was blown into large pieces. The road had been blasted into a spherical pit about two meters deep and seven or eight meters wide. From this pit as the center, buildings on both sides of the street had collapsed in a fan shape.
In the distance among the ruins, a tattered figure staggered to its feet. Though covered in blood and with torn clothes and headscarf, it was still recognizable as that Skinny Man from earlier.
It was incredible that he had survived sitting on top of the monster without being killed by the blast. It seemed that sitting on the beast's back had provided some cushioning from its thick hide.
I took deep breaths for a moment to regain my strength before shouting loudly, “Hey! How does it feel? Pretty good, right?”
“Han People, don't get too cocky,” Skinny Man replied with a cold laugh before reciting something under his breath.
I didn't take it seriously and focused on adjusting my breathing to recover my strength. It wasn't arrogance; the giant beast controlled by the Skinny Man had been blown to bits, so what threat could he pose to us? As for the things he kept mumbling about, let him be. I certainly didn't believe he was one of the Dark Overlords, and aside from the Dark Overlords, there were no other beings with magical powers in this world.
Suddenly, the Skinny Man shouted, and the pieces of flesh shattered by the Rocket Launcher began to rapidly gather in front of him, as if he were a large magnet attracting iron filings. Soon, to my astonishment, those pieces of flesh surrounded him and formed a rather bloated Meat Man. As more flesh continued to assemble, the features and limbs of the Meat Man gradually became visible.
"Damn!" I gritted my teeth, suppressing the intense pain as I struggled to pull out my Shotgun. I aimed at the Meat Man and fired. However, since I was sitting down, I couldn't brace myself properly. The recoil from the Shotgun knocked me over, leaving me sprawled on the ground, feeling as if my body had fallen apart. I wanted to get back up, but pain coursed through me, and my limbs trembled uncontrollably, making it impossible to control my body.
Looking over at the Skinny Man, although the Meat Man had a palm-sized hole blown into it by my Shotgun bullet, that hole quickly filled up with more pieces of flesh flying in. As the mass of flesh increased, the Meat Man gradually took shape until it transformed into a powerful giant standing about three meters tall.
The giant slowly approached us, raising its fist which was about as large as a basin. Even though we were severely injured, just being struck by such a massive fist would likely be worse than facing death itself—ten times worse.
The heavy footsteps thudded like a drumbeat against my heart.
Five meters...
Four meters...
Three meters...
Two meters...
One meter...
Before long, the giant stood right beside me and let out a sinister laugh. The voice of the Skinny Man echoed from the giant's mouth: "Han People! Die!"
I was done for as the giant's massive fist came crashing down towards my head.
Instinctively, I closed my eyes, and a thought flashed through my mind, "Damn, it looks like I'm finished today."
Whoosh!
A sharp sound faintly reached my ears, as if a missile had been fired from afar, followed by a loud bang. It seemed that the missile had struck the giant in front of me. Before I could open my eyes, my face was instantly covered in various bits of flesh.
I shook my head vigorously to clear some of the meat off my face and finally opened my eyes, only to find that the giant had vanished. The Skinny Man was staring at something behind me with a look of horror.
"Ghost Brother, Ghost Brother, are you dead?" came the panicked shout from Fatty.
"I'm not dead yet!" I managed to squeeze out those three words with all my strength.
I really wanted to see who was behind me and what had happened, but I simply didn't have the energy to turn around. However, judging by the expression on the Skinny Man's face, someone must have intervened and taken out Meat Man, saving my life in a critical moment.
Damn, it must be that scoundrel Lou Wei. Isn't he supposed to show up only at crucial moments? And now is definitely a crucial moment; he jumps out to show off right away.
But soon I realized I was mistaken because the Skinny Man started babbling a long string of Guk Tribe language towards my back, looking extremely excited. I thought I heard something like "pumpkin" among the syllables. It seemed that pumpkins were two dollars a pound at someone else's place; why were they three dollars a pound when sold to me? Anyway, I couldn't understand it, so let's assume that's what it meant.
After a while, a woman's voice came from behind me, also in Guk Tribe language. I still couldn't understand it; it seemed to be about the price of pumpkins—take it or leave it.
After rambling for a while, the Skinny Man finally turned away in frustration. Once he had walked far enough away, I heard very faint footsteps behind me, and then a woman dressed in black appeared before me.
The woman was the same one we encountered on the road earlier, the one from the Black Guk Tribe mentioned by Driver Old Wang.
She still carried that large backpack, her eyes as clear as before, looking down at me and calmly asking, "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine! Thank you for saving me," I managed to say gratefully.
The woman raised her head noncommittally, glanced into the distance, frowned slightly, and turned to me, saying, "This is all because of the destruction you caused earlier."
I initially wanted to explain, but then I realized that the ruins around us were indeed caused by my Rocket Launcher. So I didn't deny it: "Yes."
The woman looked at me with a strange expression, took out a Porcelain Bottle from her pocket, poured out two golden pills, and handed one to me. "This will help you recover your strength quickly."
I took the pill with difficulty and without thinking tossed it into my mouth. A wave of Fragrance slid down my throat and into my stomach. The woman looked slightly surprised and said, "Aren't you afraid that this pill might be poisonous? You must know that I'm from the Black Guk Tribe."
"If you wanted to kill me, you could just kick me and I'd be dead. Why go through all this trouble?" I replied honestly with a smile.
The woman nodded and walked over to Fatty, feeding him the golden pill. Then she turned slightly and stared blankly at the Great Black Mountain Range in the distance.
I had no idea what this golden pill was, but it was definitely more effective than any energy drink like Red Bull. Less than five minutes after taking it, I was able to stand up shakily.
I walked over to Fatty and helped him up. The woman noticed and a hint of surprise flashed across her face. "Oh, you're recovering quite quickly; your constitution is not bad."
"It's all thanks to your pill," I said with a smile.
"My elixir is merely a pretext; true strength depends on one's constitution," the woman in black said with a slight smile. In that moment, I felt as if a hundred flowers were blooming before my eyes, and even the world that had been reduced to ruins by cannon fire seemed to burst into vibrant colors.
I found it impossible to describe the beauty of this woman. Before this, Aijia Yu was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen, but this woman in black, when she smiled, was even more stunning than Ai. If I had to use the simplest term to describe her, it would be breathtakingly beautiful.
After a while, I regained my senses and turned to Fatty, only to find he was just as dazed as I was. I quickly nudged him awake, and we both scratched our heads and smiled awkwardly.
The woman in black did not seem offended and calmly asked, "Why have you destroyed the town like this?"
I immediately recounted the entire story to her, of course omitting any mention of the Dark Ten Demon Kings, as that was far too sensitive a matter.
"I see. I never expected Flower Gukren to be so brazen," the woman in black frowned slightly.
"Flower Guk?" I exclaimed. "Are you saying that bald man is one of the Flower Guk People?"
"Not just him; everyone in this town is a Flower Gukren. I've heard they have been impersonating other Guk Tribes here for some time, engaging in theft and deception. Previously, they only took money, but now it seems they have escalated to robbing and killing." Pausing for a moment, her clear eyes turned to me. "But let's set that aside for now. What brings you here?"
