In the following months, Ye Chuanze did not see Hongjun again until he was summoned by him today.
Ye Chuanze walked into the Refining Room, where Hongjun was sitting at a desk inside. Upon seeing him arrive, he looked up and called out, "Come here and sit beside me."
Hearing this, Ye Chuanze walked over and sat down opposite him.
On the desk was a pot of clear tea and two teacups. The jade green teacup in front of Hongjun held a shallow cup of green tea, emitting a faint white steam. Hongjun reached for the teapot and poured a cup of tea for Ye Chuanze, then set the teapot aside and said to him, "Taste this tea and tell me how you feel about it."
The ancient Primordial Celestial Clan may not have had the luxurious lifestyle of later human beings, but they were refined and elegant in every aspect. For instance, this tea was discovered by some immortal long ago, though it is unclear who that might have been. The immortals relied on tradition and instinct to brew water from various plant leaves, stems, and petals; tea leaves were just one type among many. The resulting brew was fragrant and rich in spiritual energy. Immortals who drank it felt invigorated and refreshed, nourishing their spirits while replenishing their celestial power.
Having seen and experienced much in the Primordial Ancient Celestial Clan, Ye Chuanze couldn't help but reflect on how humans considered themselves the main characters of the world. Humans viewed themselves as the only intelligent race in existence, unaware that there once existed a race favored by heaven that surpassed them in talent and beauty. Long before humans came into being, the Ancient Celestial Clan had already traversed a significant part of civilization's development.
Ye Chuanze picked up the teacup and took a light sip. As the tea entered his mouth, a wave of fragrance filled his senses, awakening his spirit. A strong surge of spiritual energy flowed through his body. "This tea has such rich spiritual energy!" Ye Chuanze exclaimed; its potency rivaled that of rare celestial herbs.
Upon hearing this, Hongjun smiled with satisfaction and took out a blue-gold gourd. He said to Ye Chuanze, "Extend your hand."
Ye Chuanze complied and placed his hand in front of Hongjun.
Hongjun opened the gourd's stopper and tilted it toward Ye Chuanze's hand, pouring out a stream of Clear Water. The clear, icy water flowed into Ye Chuanze's palm, bringing an immediate cool sensation that reached deep within him. Along with it came an intense surge of spiritual power entering his body.
He looked up in astonishment at Hongjun.
"This is Three Light Divine Water," Hongjun explained.
Ye Chuanze's expression turned to shock as he blurted out, "Three Light Divine Water!? Master, you are wasting something precious; this is reckless!" He watched as the Three Light Divine Water spilled onto the ground, feeling not only heartache but also pain in his stomach. This was Three Light Divine Water! According to legend, it was the purest primordial water born from the essence of sunlight, moonlight, and starlight at the beginning of creation—a miraculous water capable of reviving the dead, strengthening one's foundation, breaking through bottlenecks; it was truly an extraordinary elixir. Even if one's Primordial Spirit suffered severe injuries and faced annihilation, as long as it had not completely dissipated, a single drop of Three Light Divine Water could save a life on the brink of death.
Seeing Ye Chuanze's pained expression filled with regret, Hongjun couldn't help but chuckle softly. The smile on his lips deepened as he sighed and said, "You..."
This call carried an unmistakable tone of helpless indulgence, seemingly filled with boundless affection.
At this moment, Ye Chuanze was completely immersed in regret for his reckless behavior, completely oblivious to Hongjun's tone and expression. His gaze was fixed on the wet ground marked with water stains, his face filled with pain and remorse, almost as if he were about to pound his chest and weep uncontrollably.
"You really lose your mind whenever you encounter a treasure. The Three Light Divine Water, I don't even have that much myself," Hongjun reprimanded him nonchalantly.
"Eh!" Upon hearing this, Ye Chuanze immediately looked up, still wearing a hint of confusion on his face, clearly not having regained his senses.
Seeing this, Hongjun chose not to engage further, pretending not to notice Ye Chuanze's bewildered expression seeking answers. Without receiving any clarification, Ye Chuanze continued to gaze at him with an expression that was somewhat pitiful. Seeing him like this, Hongjun couldn't help but soften a little and advised, "Think carefully about the preciousness of the Three Light Divine Water."
The Three Light Divine Water is the purest primordial water that absorbed the essence of the sun, moon, and stars at the dawn of creation. It can only condense a few drops at a time and quickly drips to the ground or evaporates after sunrise.
The rarity of the Three Light Divine Water lies in its difficulty to condense and rapid disappearance, as well as its elusive nature. Many immortals may go their entire lives without encountering it even once; they can only hear its name but never see it.
Ye Chuanze understood the significance of this and realized why Hongjun mocked him. The Three Light Divine Water is extremely rare and measured by drops; just one drop is enough to bring someone back to life. Later on during the Journey to the West, the Ginseng Fruit Tree destroyed by Sun Wukong was revived by Avalokiteshvara using just one drop of Three Light Divine Water from her jade bottle. Avalokiteshvara's jade bottle contained only three drops of Three Light Divine Water in total, highlighting its preciousness.
The water that Hongjun poured from the gourd was clearly not the Three Light Divine Water; it flowed out in a small stream.
Understanding this, Ye Chuanze couldn't help but complain to Hongjun in dissatisfaction, "Master, why did you deceive me? That clearly isn't the Three Light Divine Water."
"Yes and no."
Ye Chuanze was truly confused by Hongjun's words and impatiently said, "Master, just tell me directly without being cryptic."
Hongjun shook his head at him and said, "Don't rush; calm your mind."
Ye Chuanze felt like he could spit blood in frustration; he hated Hongjun's slow and unhurried demeanor. He always acted decisively and never procrastinated. In contrast, Hongjun appeared calm and collected in everything he did, which made Ye Chuanze feel anxious and irritated, wanting nothing more than to whip him into action.
"I dripped one drop of Three Light Divine Water into a spiritual spring and then collected it into this Four Spirit Gourd. By nourishing the spring with the primordial energy from the gourd, I created that Three Light Spirit Water you just saw. While it cannot be compared to the Three Light Divine Water, it is still one of the rare spiritual waters in this world," Hongjun explained. After a pause, he added, "The tea you drank earlier was brewed with this spiritual water."
Hearing this, Ye Chuanze's mind raced with thoughts as he asked, "Four Spirit Gourd?"
"It is a treasure crafted from your Primordial Gourd. The gourd contains all elements—fire, wind, and water—guarded by the four spirits from the four cardinal directions; hence it is named Four Spirit Gourd," Hongjun said as he handed him the blue-gold gourd in his hand.
Ye Chuanze took the gourd and examined it. The once Azure Gourd now shimmered with a light golden hue, likely a result of changes during the refining process. It felt slightly lighter in his hand, and when he shook it, there was no sound, as if it were empty inside. Though small, the gourd contained a vast space within, creating a small world of its own.
"Keep this gourd well; it will be of great use in the future," Hongjun advised him.
Hearing this, Ye Chuanze looked up at him, a bright smile spreading across his face as he said warmly, "Disciple thanks Master for your great kindness! You are truly wonderful, and my gratitude cannot be expressed in words."
Hongjun remained impassive, not even lifting his eyelids, unaffected by Ye Chuanze's flattery. He replied coolly, "Just say what you want."
"Hehe..." Ye Chuanze's little scheme was exposed, but he felt no shame. Instead, he boldly continued, "Master, please give me some Three Light Divine Water! Just one or two bottles will do."
Hongjun lifted his eyelids to look at him. "Do you think this is the water from the lotus pond outside my palace? One or two bottles? How can you even say that?"
"Master, there is no lotus pond outside your palace," Ye Chuanze said seriously. "There is only a pavilion."
Hongjun glanced at him and fell silent, unwilling to engage.
"Master, why did you change that perfectly good lotus pond into a pavilion?" Ye Chuanze couldn't help but ask; he was puzzled by Hongjun's reasoning.
"If I wanted to do it this way, then I did," Hongjun replied coldly.
"...Master, are you brushing me off?" Ye Chuanze retorted after being momentarily stumped.
Hongjun's lips moved slightly as he calmly stated, "Don't you want the Three Light Divine Water?"
Upon hearing this, Ye Chuanze immediately changed his tone and praised him enthusiastically, "What a good reason! Truly worthy of being Master! Actions are driven by one's heart; there's no need to explain to the world." His behavior was exceedingly sycophantic.
Hongjun raised his eyelids and looked at him with an unreadable expression. After a moment, he took out a white jade long bottle and handed it to him. "There are three drops of Three Light Divine Water inside; take it."
Ye Chuanze accepted it with a grin and said to Hongjun, "Master, you are so kind! I won't forget your great kindness; I will repay you in the future."
Hongjun assessed him with a gaze that seemed to weigh his worth before finally retracting his gaze and saying lightly, "No need for that. As long as you remain obedient and do not cause trouble, that will be the best repayment for me."
“……” Is he being rejected?
“You have the Primordial Gourd Vine and Nine Heavens Soil in your hands,” Hongjun asked.
Ye Chuanze nodded in response, “That is indeed the case.”
The soil that Ye Chuanze collected under Buzhou Mountain that nurtured the Primordial Gourd Vine is the Nine Heavens Soil. The Nine Heavens Soil contains supreme spiritual energy; just a little bit can transform into endless soil.
Upon hearing this, Hongjun's expression became contemplative as he said, “Take good care of the Primordial Gourd Vine and Nine Heavens Soil. In the future, this will present another opportunity.”
“I understand, Master.” After a moment of reflection, Ye Chuanze replied.
Three Light Spirit Water, Primordial Gourd Vine, Nine Heavens Soil… there is still one more thing missing.
Hongjun continued, “In a hundred years, you may come to me; I have something to give you.”
Ye Chuanze's eyes flickered with respect and gratitude as he said, “Yes, I will obey your command.”
