Liu Chaowu stared intently at Jiang Chen, somewhat astonished. Jiang Chen's strength surprised him; being able to remain impervious to the rain indicated that he was at least at the Transcendence level. Only a Transcendence master could project Inner Energy outward to form a protective shield against the rain.
However, Jiang Chen was too young. It was hard to believe that someone so young could be a Master of Transformation.
"I never expected there to be such a young Master of Transformation in this world. Young man, what is your name? Which sect do you belong to?" Liu Chaowu asked, his voice clear despite the patter of the rain.
"I have no sect," Jiang Chen replied calmly.
"How can that be? Is your cultivation merely a product of thin air?" Liu Chaowu said, somewhat displeased. Jiang Chen's lie seemed too obvious.
"How I attained my cultivation seems to have nothing to do with you," Jiang Chen retorted.
With that one sentence, Liu Chaowu found himself at a loss for words. Given his current status, even the Mayor of Hangzhou would treat him with respect. Yet here was Jiang Chen, a young man speaking to him so disrespectfully, which greatly annoyed Liu Chaowu.
"You may choose not to speak, but why insult my sect?" Liu Chaowu asked in a deep voice.
"Who told you I insulted your sect? I don't even know what sect you belong to, so how could I have insulted it?" Jiang Chen laughed lightly.
Liu Chaowu frowned. It seemed Jiang Chen was not lying after all; it must have been his junior brother who had lied. Liu Chaowu glanced at Zhu Kaijun, who appeared guilty and dared not meet Liu Chaowu's gaze. The grudge between him and Jiang Chen was initially personal; it was Zhu Kaijun who insisted on involving their sect. Otherwise, Liu Chaowu might not have come to help him seek revenge.
Liu Chaowu snorted but did not say more.
He looked back at Jiang Chen and said coolly, "You struck my junior brother, which shows you do not take my Bagua Sect seriously. And yet you dare say you did not insult my sect?"
"Bagua Sect? Never heard of it. Do you really think you can avenge your junior brother?" Jiang Chen chuckled, appearing nonchalant, which darkened Liu Chaowu's expression even further.
If Jiang Chen were not a Martial Artist and had never heard of Bagua Sect, it would be understandable. However, as a Martial Artist, how could he not know about Bagua Sect? It was not a minor sect in Huaxia Martial Arts; it was quite renowned, especially since Baguazhang was one of the three major internal martial arts in Huaxia, alongside Xingyiquan and Taijiquan. Everyone in the martial arts community knew about it. For Jiang Chen to claim ignorance was clearly intentional—an outright slight against them—which further irritated Liu Chaowu.
"You are too arrogant! How dare you look down on my Bagua Sect? Who doesn't know about us in Huaxia Martial Arts? You claim ignorance; I want to see what abilities you possess that allow you to say such things!" Liu Chaowu shouted angrily.
Jiang Chen felt speechless; he genuinely did not know what Bagua Sect was. Speaking the truth had somehow made him appear arrogant in Liu Chaowu's eyes.
However, if Liu Chaowu wanted to fight, Jiang Chen had no objections; for him, matters that could be resolved with action did not require words.
"Old Liu, there seems to be a misunderstanding here. Just now, Dong Mingshui acted disrespectfully towards me; Mr. Jiang only intervened to teach him a lesson. You mustn't engage Mr. Jiang!" Yue Hui hurriedly advised.
"Who disrespected you? I pursued you openly and honestly; what does this kid have to do with it? He struck first!" Dong Mingshui exclaimed.
"Miss Yue, you don't need to speak for this kid. This is between me and him. Since we are both Martial Artists, let’s have a friendly match. Don't worry; I will only teach him a lesson and won’t kill him," Liu Chaowu said indifferently.
"Um, Old Liu, you seem to misunderstand me? What I mean is that you are not Mr. Jiang's match; if you fight him, you'll definitely come out worse for wear," Yue Hui said awkwardly.
Upon hearing this, Liu Chaowu froze in disbelief, thinking he must have misheard her.
"What did you say? I'm not this kid's opponent?" Liu Chaowu exclaimed like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, nearly jumping up in shock.
“Old Liu, I’m not joking. You really are no match for Mr. Jiang. You should leave quickly.” Although Yue Hui knew that this truth would be hard for Liu Chaowu to accept, she still spoke up.
“Miss Yue, stop talking. You’re not a martial artist; there are things you don’t understand, and you have no idea of my strength,” Liu Chaowu said in a deep voice.
“Old Liu, I may not fully understand your strength, but no matter what it is, you cannot defeat Mr. Jiang. Please believe me,” Yue Hui said earnestly once more.
Seeing Yue Hui’s serious demeanor, Liu Chaowu didn’t take her words to heart; instead, he felt even more displeased. How could she look down on him so much? There was no way he would leave. If he did, how could he face the world as the President of the Hangzhou Martial Arts Association? He would become a laughingstock.
“You can shut up now,” Liu Chaowu said coldly, his goodwill towards Yue Hui completely gone.
Yue Hui felt helpless; she had said what needed to be said, but Old Liu wouldn’t listen, and there was nothing more she could do.
“Kid, come fight me. I want to see just how capable this young master really is,” Liu Chaowu declared as he leaped into the air and landed on the surface of the lake, charging toward Jiang Chen.
“Your strength is too weak; you don’t qualify to fight me. However, since you want to see my abilities, I can oblige,” Jiang Chen replied with a smile. He formed his fingers into a blade and struck down toward Liu Chaowu, a dazzling white light flashing through the rain.
Liu Chaowu’s pupils widened as he hurriedly dodged. Luckily, he managed to evade just in time; the white light struck the lake beside him like the tail of a divine dragon, violently slashing across the surface and splitting it apart. Two towering waves surged outward on either side.
Caught off guard, Liu Chaowu was knocked over by the massive wave and fell into the lake, his inner energy dissipating as the water drenched him completely.
At this sight, everyone except Yue Hui was left dumbfounded.
Jiang Chen did not relent.
He extended his hand and pointed into the air; his finger touched a raindrop. At that moment, it seemed as if time itself had stopped when Jiang Chen made contact with that drop of rain.
Everyone could see that all the raindrops in the sky suddenly froze in place. Standing beside Jiang Chen, Yue Hui observed even more clearly; she realized that it wasn’t time that had stopped but rather that Jiang Chen had unleashed some kind of divine power to halt the heavy rain.
Although she had witnessed Jiang Chen's prowess before, this time it left her utterly speechless once again.
This rain was a natural phenomenon; if Jiang Chen could freeze it in place, didn’t that mean he could control natural changes? It was simply unfathomable.
Once the rain was frozen, Jiang Chen clenched his palm. The raindrops were drawn together by an invisible force, forming a massive water column that resembled a dragon. Holding one end of it, Jiang Chen gave it a gentle wave, splitting Dong Mingshui’s boat in half with ease.
