"I think I really have fallen for him," Zhou Kexin said with a happy smile on her face. Saying those words made her feel sweet inside; she wondered if this was what love felt like.
"Oh no, oh no..." Hua Lingwei muttered expressionlessly.
"Vivi, what's wrong?" Zhou Kexin asked curiously.
"Don't you know? You said you didn't like Chen Haoxuan, so my dad told me to pursue him. But now you're saying you like him! Oh my gosh! We've become rivals in love," Hua Lingwei said with a mix of laughter and frustration.
Hearing Hua Lingwei's words made Zhou Kexin anxious. Hua Lingwei was just as pretty as she was, and she genuinely worried that Chen Haoxuan might be taken by her. "Vivi, you haven't really fallen for Chen Haoxuan too, have you?" Zhou Kexin asked nervously.
"I wouldn't say I'm in love, but I really like him. He's handsome, charming, popular with girls, makes money, and... I think any girl would like someone like him." Hua Lingwei raised her head, reminiscing about the time spent with Chen Haoxuan, and said softly.
After speaking, Hua Lingwei looked at Zhou Kexin and noticed her furrowed brows and worried expression. Hua Lingwei knew that Zhou Kexin was afraid she might steal Chen Haoxuan away from her. "Zhou Kexin, don't worry! If he likes you too, I absolutely won't compete with you. But if he doesn't like you, then I'm sorry, heh heh..." Hua Lingwei said with a mischievous grin.
"He will like me. If he didn't like me, why would he risk his safety to save me?" Zhou Kexin explained nervously, her anxious expression suggesting she feared Hua Lingwei wouldn't believe her.
"Alright, alright! I won't compete with you, okay? I was just joking! Look at how nervous you are; it seems like you won't marry anyone but Chen Haoxuan," Hua Lingwei laughed. Although she said this, deep down she was reluctant to give up pursuing Chen Haoxuan. However, seeing her good friend Zhou Kexin so fond of him made her not want to lose the friend she had grown up with.
Zhou Kexin hugged Hua Lingwei tightly and said happily, "Vivi, you're so good to me. Thank you, Vivi."
On the small road leading to Dongshan Village, a girl carrying a small bag was walking briskly with a tense expression. This girl was Chen Yina. She had taken the bus and got off at an intersection before starting to walk on foot since there were no direct buses to Dongshan Village; she could only get off near it and walk the rest of the way.
After walking quickly for twenty minutes, Chen Yina finally arrived at Dongshan Village. At the village entrance, she took out a phone that she had bought for this trip specifically so she could find Chen Haoxuan as soon as she arrived in Dongshan Village. She dialed the phone number of Zhang the Old Man's house, and upon receiving the call, Zhang the Old Man immediately came to pick up Chen Yina at the village entrance.
Zhang the Old Man brought Chen Yina to his home. When Chen Yina saw Chen Haoxuan lying on the bed, she couldn't hold back any longer and burst into tears. All her worries, fears, and anxieties were finally released in that moment through her cries.
Chen Haoxuan gently stroked Chen Yina's head as she leaned on him and smiled. "Alright! Stop crying; if you keep crying you'll turn into a little raccoon."
Chen Yina sat up and tightly grasped Chen Haoxuan's hand, asking with concern, "Brother Xuan, how are you feeling now?"
"I'm fine; I just caught a cold from being out in the chill. Grandpa Zhang has already called a doctor to check on me; I've taken some cold medicine and got an injection. I'll be better in a few days; don't worry!" Chen Haoxuan reassured Chen Yina.
"Mm-hmm, I'm not worried as long as Brother Xuan is okay," Chen Yina said with tears mixed with a smile.
Chen Yina and Chen Haoxuan gradually started chatting. To cheer Chen Yina up, Chen Haoxuan told her many jokes about Future Century, making her laugh continuously. During lunchtime, Chen Yina took the initiative to help Zhang the Old Man cook.
With nothing to do, Zhang the Old Man came to Chen Haoxuan's room, moved a stool, and sat by Chen Haoxuan's bed, engaging in casual conversation. "Xuan! Is this girl your girlfriend? She seems really diligent; you are lucky to have such a girlfriend," Zhang the Old Man said with a kind smile.
Chen Haoxuan awkwardly explained, "Grandpa Zhang, she is not my girlfriend; she is my sister."
"Sister? You two don’t look alike," Zhang the Old Man said curiously.
"She is the child of my neighbor. We grew up together, and I have always regarded her as my own sister," Chen Haoxuan clarified.
"Oh, I see! What a pity; I can tell just by looking at her that she is a kind-hearted girl and so hardworking. She will definitely be a super supportive partner in the future," Zhang the Old Man joked.
"Grandpa Zhang, what about your children? Why haven't I seen them?" Chen Haoxuan asked.
"They? They all went out to work, just working in New City. My son works as a security guard at New City University. It's a pity he’s in his thirties and still hasn’t found a girlfriend; I really don’t know what he’s doing," Zhang the Old Man said with a frown when talking about his son, seeming somewhat dissatisfied.
"Ah—what a coincidence! I study at New City University. Your son works as a security guard there and is in his thirties. If I'm not mistaken, is his name Zhang Qing?" Chen Haoxuan asked.
