Since rare items are valuable, and with so many colorful stones available by the river, Chen Haoxuan wouldn't pay high prices. He offered different amounts based on size: a few cents for small ones, one dollar for fist-sized stones, and one hundred dollars for basketball-sized ones. Additionally, he would pay more for stones with good color and quality.
To purchase these Water Stones, Chen Haoxuan needed a lot of change because everyone in the village was involved—children and elders were picking stones by the shore while adults searched in the water. Some clever individuals used shovels to remove layers of sand on top of the stones, revealing Water Stones that had never seen sunlight; these buried stones had even better colors.
Chen Haoxuan's home became bustling with activity as long lines formed at his door. Unable to manage alone, he called Lin Hao and Miao Yuxiang for assistance. His requirements for collecting Water Stones weren't too strict; Lin Hao and the others should be able to handle it.
Chen Haoxuan instructed Lin Hao and the others that if they found particularly beautiful or large Water Stones, they should bring them to him for evaluation. He also wanted any lesser-quality stones at a few cents each since he needed them for a cement path in his garden. Instead of paving it with cement, he preferred using stones for aesthetics and enjoyment; walking barefoot on stone paths was also beneficial for health!
Today, every villager in Chen Family Village was smiling happily as they all made quite a bit of money—children earned at least ten dollars while some made several hundred dollars. Earning so much in just one day was far better than farming. Some villagers took advantage of the daylight and went back to the riverbank to collect more Water Stones. Chen Haoxuan informed them that he would only be buying Water Stones for a few days; after that, he might stop purchasing them altogether. This prompted some villagers to think that if they didn't seize this opportunity to earn money now, it would be difficult later.
Another day passed, and today Chen Haoxuan continued collecting Water Stones. In the morning, twelve-year-old Chen Xiumin suddenly ran up beside him and sweetly said, "Brother Xuan, I know of a really big Water Stone; do you want it?" Chen Xiumin liked Chen Haoxuan very much; she felt he was kind-hearted. Whenever he was home, she often ran over to play with him or share delicious food whenever she found something tasty.
With a smile on his face, Chen Haoxuan asked Chen Xiumin, "Is its color nice?"
"Well, I can only see a little bit above, I can't see below," Chen Xiumin said in a delicate voice.
The bigger the carving, the better; it's easier to carve and sells for a higher price. "Do you have time to take me there now?"
"Of course! If I didn't have time, how could I come to find you? But that place is quite far," Chen Xiumin replied sweetly. She had discovered that large Water Stone while working with her mother; it was buried underground and covered with weeds, making it hard to notice unless you got close.
"No problem, I'll drive there. Wait for me a moment while I grab a shovel," Chen Haoxuan said. He went inside to get a shovel and then took Chen Xiumin to his car.
Many villagers envied Chen Xiumin; Chen Haoxuan drove a luxury BMW worth millions! Riding in such a car was an exciting experience for anyone!
Chen Xiumin was also thrilled. Sitting in the passenger seat, she couldn't stop admiring Chen Haoxuan's car; it was her first time riding in such a small vehicle!
Chen Haoxuan helped Chen Xiumin fasten her seatbelt and smiled, saying, "You guide me, and I'll drive."
"Okay, Brother Xuan, just head towards Sister Mountain. The stone is at the foot of Sister Mountain," Chen Xiumin instructed sweetly.
"Got it," Chen Haoxuan replied as he started driving toward the location Chen Xiumin mentioned.
"Brother Xuan, why don't you live with your family?" Chen Xiumin suddenly asked him. Being still a child, she was unaware of the complicated situation in Chen Haoxuan's family.
"Because they don't like me, so they don't want me around," Chen Haoxuan said with a faint smile.
"Ah—your parents don't want you? You're so nice; we all like you! Why don't they like you?" Chen Xiumin asked curiously.
"You are just a child and don't understand. When you grow up, you'll know why." Chen Haoxuan gently patted Chen Xiumin's little head with one hand. In truth, Chen Haoxuan also longed for a family, but with relatives like Li Xin, he would rather not have one; they were truly too heartless towards him.
Chen Haoxuan brought Chen Xiumin to the place she mentioned. Chen Xiumin bounced over to a small mound and waved at Chen Haoxuan, saying, "Brother Xuan, it's right here! Come over and take a look!"
Chen Haoxuan jogged over to her side. Chen Xiumin squatted down and cleared away the weeds on the ground, revealing a huge Water Stone in Chen Haoxuan's line of sight. "Not bad, the color is great, but I wonder how big it really is," Chen Haoxuan remarked.
"Brother Xuan, didn't you bring a shovel? Why don't you try digging?" Chen Xiumin urged him sweetly.
"Okay, I'll give it a try," Chen Haoxuan said as he picked up the shovel and began to dig around the Water Stone.
Chen Xiumin cheered him on from the side: "Brother Xuan, go for it! Brother Xuan, you can do it!"
