At six o'clock in the evening, Shen Ruyan returned to New City University, where Ye Hongfei came to invite her to an aristocratic gathering. Shen Ruyan attended the event, which featured many performances, and she had a great time.
After the gathering ended, Shen Ruyan returned to New City University. She lay on her bed, increasingly puzzled about when Wang Fuyou and the others had become so adept at making girls happy. "Could it be that someone is guiding them? It must be," Shen Ruyan thought to herself.
Determined not to sleep that night, Shen Ruyan decided to hide on the rooftop of the Girls' Dormitory Building to see if Wang Fuyou was indeed being guided by someone. Wang Fuyou had confessed his feelings for her twice in the same spot, and she guessed he would do so again in front of the Girls' Dormitory Building. So she waited on the rooftop, certain she would witness Wang Fuyou and whoever was advising him.
As she sat on the rooftop, hugging her knees and gazing at the sky, she looked quite lonely.
At four in the morning, Shen Ruyan began to doze off when suddenly she heard footsteps coming up the stairs: "You fat idiot, hurry up! I'm so tired right now; if we finish this quickly, I can go back and rest."
"Isn't that Chen Haoxuan's voice? Could he be guiding Wang Fuyou and the others?" Shen Ruyan thought to herself.
Soon enough, Chen Haoxuan and Wang Fuyou emerged from the stairwell. As soon as Chen Haoxuan stepped out, he said to Wang Fuyou, "Fix that cannon you're holding onto the railing and remember to aim at the spot where you stood this morning."
There was no doubt now; Chen Haoxuan was teaching Wang Fuyou how to win her over. She stood up with her hands on her hips and shouted angrily at Chen Haoxuan, "Chen Haoxuan, how dare you teach them how to pursue me? Are you tired of living?"
Hearing Shen Ruyan's voice, Chen Haoxuan turned around abruptly and saw her standing majestically on the rooftop, making him look up at her. "You... how did you get here?" Chen Haoxuan asked in surprise.
"I should be asking you that. You better confess honestly—did you come up with these elaborate ideas for them to win me over?" Shen Ruyan asked sternly.
Wang Fuyou stood nearby, thinking to himself, "Oh no, I've been discovered."
"I didn't! I'm here with Wang Fuyou because he offered me one hundred thousand Renminbi to help him out. If it were you, you probably wouldn't refuse either!" Chen Haoxuan replied.
"Yes, yes! Chen Haoxuan is right; I paid him to help!" Wang Fuyou explained.
"Who would believe that? I've known you both for so many years; how could I not know what kind of people you are? If you really knew how to make girls happy, you would have done it long ago. Why wait until now and all three of you together? It's suspicious!" Shen Ruyan said angrily.
"Really, it has nothing to do with me. I'm just helping them make tools; I don't know anything else," Chen Haoxuan awkwardly explained.
"Hmph, you still think you can fool me? I've been tracking you for a long time," Shen Ruyan said. She was trying to trick Chen Haoxuan into revealing more information.
To be honest, Chen Haoxuan really believed her, after all, Shen Ruyan was from the Dragon Group, and it was normal for someone to track others without being discovered.
Chen Haoxuan said, "If you give me money, I can teach you how to pursue them!"
Hearing Chen Haoxuan's words, Shen Ruyan couldn't help but laugh out loud. She smiled and scolded him, "I'm not that cheap! I won't pursue someone I don't like. No, no, you've led me astray; I won't chase after someone I don't like—it's chasing, not pursuing."
"The meaning is the same," Chen Haoxuan replied.
"You... Hmph, so uncouth," Shen Ruyan pouted.
Wang Fuyou was holding a thick iron pipe. He saw Chen Haoxuan and Shen Ruyan chatting away while he stood right next to them as if he were invisible. He felt like he was transparent.
"I say, can you two stop ignoring me? I'm a living person too! You should at least say a few words to me," Wang Fuyou awkwardly interjected.
Chen Haoxuan said, "Oh! I just realized I have something very important to handle. I'll be leaving now."
"You're not allowed to leave," Shen Ruyan gracefully flipped over and blocked the staircase.
"This is your fault," Chen Haoxuan said pitifully to Shen Ruyan. Suddenly, he turned and ran toward the railing, pushing off with his feet and jumping off the rooftop.
"Chen Haoxuan, no!" Shen Ruyan screamed. Her voice was filled with reluctance and fear. She seemed to forget that Chen Haoxuan had jumped from the sixteenth floor during his fight with Number Two and had been fine; this was only the sixth floor.
Chen Haoxuan clung to the edge of the balcony outside the dormitory, descending steadily until he safely reached the ground.
Shen Ruyan saw Chen Haoxuan land safely from the rooftop, and her tense heart relaxed. "You scared me! I thought he might have fallen to his death!" Shen Ruyan's voice carried a slight tremor of tears.
Wang Fuyou shone his flashlight on Shen Ruyan, surprised to see that she was actually crying. "Ruyan, why are you crying?"
"Ah..." Hearing Wang Fuyou's words, Shen Ruyan quickly wiped her face with her hand and realized there were indeed tears. She was worried about Chen Haoxuan and had cried? She couldn't quite believe it herself.
Just moments ago, Shen Ruyan's heart-wrenching scream had awakened most of the girls in the Girls' Dormitory. Many students thought something had happened to Chen Haoxuan, as they heard her cry: "Chen Haoxuan, don't!" They rushed to the balcony to see what was happening. The darkness below revealed nothing, but when they looked up at the rooftop and saw a light, they suspected that Chen Haoxuan was up there, prompting them to head to the rooftop.
Shen Ruyan, leaving Wang Fuyou behind, ran off. She needed to catch up with Chen Haoxuan and warn him not to teach Wang Fuyou how to pursue her. As she descended, she encountered curious female students eager to see what was happening on the rooftop.
"Ruyan, was that you screaming just now? What happened to Chen Haoxuan?" a girl in pajamas asked nervously. Given her anxious demeanor, she must have been a devoted fan of Chen Haoxuan.
"It was me, but Chen Haoxuan is fine; he has already gone back," Shen Ruyan replied awkwardly.
"Back? You two were on top of the Girls' Dormitory Building in the middle of the night... you weren't having an affair, were you?" a bold girl asked.
