Seeing Xu Muqing's shocked expression, Chen Haoxuan smiled at her and asked, "Is there anything you want to say?"
Xu Muqing, with her head held high, gazed at the Buddha statues on the stone wall. Her subconscious answered Chen Haoxuan's question: "Yes, four words: magnificent and grand." She swore she had never seen such magnificent Buddha statues before. Inside the temple, the stone wall was covered with statues, each carved vividly. She silently counted them and lost track of where she started, indicating just how many statues were on that wall.
"You don't need to count anymore; there are nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine Buddha statues in this temple, none of which are duplicates, all famous Buddhas," Chen Haoxuan said.
After a while, Xu Muqing finally emerged from her shock. She pointed to the top and asked Chen Haoxuan, "Why is there no light at the top?"
Chen Haoxuan explained, "That's because I wanted you to feel that this temple is very high, so high that you can't see the top. I had candles placed in front of each Buddha statue; the lights on the bottom level are the brightest, and they get dimmer as you go higher. By the time you reach the top, there are no candles at all, so when you look up, it appears pitch black and you can't see anything. You should also feel that the top is very high, right?"
"You really are a genius; I can't believe you thought of this," Xu Muqing said admiringly.
"Thank you for the compliment." Being praised is something everyone enjoys, regardless of their status, and Chen Haoxuan was no exception.
Chen Haoxuan acted like a tour guide; every time he took Xu Muqing to a new place, he would explain in detail how that place was built. If there was a story behind it, he would share one or two. For example, by the riverside, he had set up two human-shaped statues for visitors to pay their respects. He did this to add some legends to Chen Family Village. The locations of these two statues were significant because they marked where a couple similar to Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai had jumped into the river together in ancient times. Even Chen Haoxuan was moved by this story.
Xu Muqing felt even more frustrated with Chen Haoxuan for deliberately making her cry.
Chen Family Village wasn't very large, but Chen Haoxuan needed to explain every place in detail to Xu Muqing. As a result, she spent three days in Chen Family Village before completing her task. When she left, she felt reluctant because her time spent with Chen Haoxuan had been truly enjoyable. Additionally, staying at Chen Haoxuan's villa allowed her to experience what life was like for wealthy people; the cost of one meal was equivalent to several years of her salary—this highlighted the disparity between people.
After returning to the Travel Agency, Xu Muqing wrote a detailed report for her boss and then brought her colleagues to familiarize them with Chen Family Village. Otherwise, if they got lost while bringing tourists over, it would be quite embarrassing.
Not long after, more tourists began to visit Chen Family Village. With an increase in visitors, Chen Haoxuan suggested that the villagers set up street stalls.
The villagers of Chen Family Village have not yet started earning income, but they can all see that it won't be long before they become wealthy. Wherever the people from Chen Family Village go, others envy them and say how great it would be if Chen Haoxuan were from their village.
Chen Haoxuan is a significant figure in China and can be considered one of the most famous wealthy individuals in the country. His every move easily makes the news. He has led the villagers in transforming the entire Chen Family Village, and such a large project would surely attract attention; otherwise, the Chinese people would criticize those reporters for being unprofessional.
Fang Zhiyu, Chen Haoxuan's sister-in-law, was moved after seeing the news about Chen Family Village. She wanted to persuade her husband to return to Chen Family Village, believing that as long as they did not trouble someone as important as Chen Haoxuan, he would not cause them any trouble either.
Fang Zhiyu shared her thoughts with her husband, who agreed. In fact, even without Fang Zhiyu's encouragement, Chen Haorong wanted to go back because he did not want to work for others anymore. Working was exhausting, and he often faced criticism from his boss. Now that everyone in Chen Family Village had a chance to get rich, such opportunities were rare! If he didn't return soon, he might miss out entirely. He hadn't forgotten that he was from Chen Family Village; his household registration was still there! Seeing others from his village becoming wealthy while he remained empty-handed would make him feel very uncomfortable.
After discussing it with his wife, Chen Haorong quickly packed their things and took a long-distance bus back to New City. They didn't even collect their wages from working at the factory. Although they were currently poor, they had once been big bosses; a few thousand yuan paled in comparison to the opportunity for wealth. It was obvious which choice to make, so they readily gave up their factory wages.
When Chen Haorong returned to Chen Family Village with his wife and saw the bustling scene, they smiled. The villagers of Chen Family Village had indeed become prosperous; everyone was dressed well and looked healthy, clearly living good lives. The stark contrast between how Chen Haorong used to dress and how he looked now made many villagers fail to recognize him because he used to wear branded clothes and adorned himself with gold necklaces and rings. But now, he wore ordinary casual clothes and carried two luggage bags, looking somewhat shabby.
Chen Haorong remembered his home. As he pushed open the door, he saw his mother Li Xin feeding chickens in the yard. His mother looked very poor, even more so than a typical farmer.
"Mom, I'm back," Chen Haorong called out.
Hearing someone call her "Mom," Li Xin looked up and when she recognized her son Chen Haorong, she dropped the basin she was holding with a loud crash. "Haorong, you need to leave quickly! When your father comes back, you're finished!" Li Xin said anxiously to her son. She had suffered greatly because of him in the past and had come to terms with life as it was; however, her husband Chen Zhenghao still harbored deep resentment towards Chen Haorong and had said that if Chen Haorong returned, he would personally deal with him.
Chen Haorong was unhappy. No matter what, he was part of this family; he was their son. How could they want him gone as soon as he returned? Angrily, he said, "Mom, I just got back! Can't you at least show some concern for me instead of trying to chase me away? Do you really want to disown me as your son?"
Fang Zhiyu spoke up for Li Xin: "Mom, how can you say that? Do you really want to cut off the lineage of the Chen family?" Rural people place great importance on continuing their family lineages. Fang Zhiyu hoped this would make Li Xin treat them better since Chen Haoxuan had already distanced himself from them; only her husband could still be considered part of the Chen family. If they chased him away, then naturally the lineage would end.
Chen Zhenghao returned home carrying a hoe and upon seeing Chen Haorong and his wife together, he immediately flew into a rage: "Unfilial son! How dare you come back? Just wait until I deal with you!"
