When he saw Liu Qingxi and the others who had just been driven out, along with Yellow Cattle following behind, his expression was a mix of emotions.
The muscles in his cheeks trembled violently, and his teeth clattered.
Suppressing the anger that was about to burst forth, he forced a smile and approached, "What are you all doing? Selling off cattle?"
Ji Zhong maintained a humble demeanor and slightly bowed, "Indeed, thanks to you, I wouldn't have so much business otherwise."
Sure enough, the Boss's muscles trembled even more violently at that moment. Liu Qingxi wanted to laugh but held it back. Ji Zhong was quite the schemer; his words were better left unsaid.
It was likely that the Boss was so furious upon hearing this that he felt like spitting blood. This was nothing short of a blatant slap in the face, and it stung. Regret filled him as he realized he had pushed away the business he had worked hard to secure.
"Ah, today's business will keep me busy for over half a month. Thank you! By the way, I can't chat any longer; I need to hurry and take the girl to buy a cart. You can't have cattle without a cart, right?"
Then the group strode away, leaving the Boss standing there in a daze, unable to curse or refrain from feeling frustrated.
His flushed face made Ji Zhong burst into laughter, and Liu Qingxi and the others couldn't help but chuckle as well.
"Uncle Ji, you really got him riled up!"
"Hahaha, Miss Liu, you have no idea how long I've been holding this in. Finally, I can let out a good breath. I owe you one."
"But aren't you afraid he'll cause trouble later?" Liu Qingxi couldn't help but doubt that the Boss had much tolerance; it was highly likely he'd scheme behind their backs.
"Don't worry about it; I'm not afraid of him. People like him bully the weak and fear the strong. I usually don't want to deal with him," Ji Zhong waved his hand dismissively.
Rivals are eternal foes; that's an unchanging truth—these two could never be friends.
Liu Qingxi silently acknowledged this but liked Ji Zhong's personality. If she were in his shoes, she would do the same.
When you lack ability, yielding is necessary because constant resistance can lead to greater harm. However, when your abilities are on par with others, it's time to show some iron-fisted resolve.
Could she have intentionally let that person see her? After all, who told him to look down on others?
While they chatted and laughed, they arrived at a carpenter's shop. From outside, they could hear the continuous sound of wood being sawed inside, and even from afar, they could smell the unique fragrance of wood. The ground outside was piled high with scraps.
"Let's go, it's right in front of us. We're old acquaintances; the wood he uses is all top-notch material. The carts he makes are sturdy, and I guarantee you'll come back after your first visit."
Sure enough, after meeting the carpenter shop owner, Liu Qingxi believed it.
The owner was a typical farmer, with beads of sweat on his face and sawdust in his hair. "Ji Zhong, you're here! What do these folks need?"
"Big brother, let me introduce you. This is Miss Liu; she just bought six cows from me and needs a cart, so I brought them directly to you."
Ji Zhong's acquaintance wiped the sweat from his face and took a big gulp of cold water. "Since Ji Zhong recommended you, don't worry. I'll give you the best price. We happen to have some carts ready in the back; why not take a look?"
As he walked, he explained, "With harvest time approaching, carts are in high demand this time of year. I'm afraid we won't have enough if we wait too long. We usually prepare a few in advance, so you're just in time. If you find one you like, you can take it right away."
It was only a short distance to what he called the backyard, which was actually a large enclosed area surrounded by walls. To prevent rain, they had set up simple thatched shelters around.
Inside, things were organized by category: there were cabinets and chairs, intricately carved beds, sedan chairs, and carts. Different types of items were piled in various spots, with several workers busily sawing wood in the center, sawdust scattered everywhere.
"Well, we've been quite busy lately and haven't had time to tidy up," the carpenter shop owner said as he energetically patted one of the finished carts. "But I assure you, these carts are made from high-quality locust wood; they're very sturdy."
Liu Qingxi turned to signal Zhang Wuliang; she really didn't know much about this and needed the village chief's expertise.
Being farmers themselves, they could easily distinguish quality. Zhang Wuliang nodded. "Not bad at all. Just the other day I bought a cart from you here; this time I need more, so please give us a better price."
It turned out that while Zhang Wuliang didn't buy his cows from Ji Zhong, he chose this shop for the carts based on Ji Zhong's recommendation.
The man was indeed pleased to hear this. "Don't worry! Since Ji Zhong recommended you and you're regular customers, I won't overcharge you. It's two hundred wen each; how does that sound? For six carts that's twelve hundred wen total, and I'll throw in two stools for free."
This was already his lowest selling price; there wasn't much room for negotiation since he needed to buy wood and pay several workers as well.
Zhang Wuliang could tell he was an honest man and didn't press further. He nodded to indicate to Liu Qingxi that this was already quite reasonable; last time he bought a cart for two hundred thirty wen.
"Alright then, we'll take six. Can you help us load them onto the cows?"
"Of course! Miss Liu is our valued customer! Come on, everyone! Let's get some help." He called over some workers while settling the payment with Liu Qingxi.
"Ah, if it weren't for my brother bringing you here, this cart would cost at least two hundred and thirty coins. If you need anything in the future, feel free to come back."
Fortunately, we brought the saddle for the Ox Cart; otherwise, it would have been a hassle.
At the entrance, a few Young Men who came along were excited all the way. After buying the cattle, they were even more thrilled, and now as they harnessed the cart, their hearts raced uncontrollably.
They could hardly resist the urge to hug the plump and strong Yellow Cattle and give it a kiss.
After a couple of moments, the Ox Cart was ready, and the task of buying cattle was considered complete.
"Qingxi, thank you! You have done a great favor for us at Ten Li Pu." Zhang Wuliang puffed on one bag of tobacco after another, enjoying himself to the point of losing track of everything.
"You guys remember, Qingxi is doing this for the good of Kid. We must be grateful and not forget our roots."
"Don't worry, Uncle Zhang. We will definitely work hard alongside Miss Liu." The Young Men stood straight and proud, their dark skin making their teeth appear even whiter.
In their youthful eyes, filled with hope, there was a glimmer of determination.
"Qingxi, how about we head home? Do you have anything else to do?" Zhang Wuliang wished he could fly back to Ten Li Pu right now.
"Wait a moment; let's stop by the school first. Today Qingyan has a day off, so we can pick him up before heading back."
