Yang Yichen got out of the car and followed the servant's directions into the room. He saw a figure standing with his back to him, dressed in black, with long hair cascading down like a waterfall.
Sensing someone had entered, the man slowly turned around, revealing a sharply defined, cold, and imposing face. Without wasting any words, he got straight to the point: "You have arrived in the capital!"
"Yes, I have seen the prince!"
The man was none other than Dugu Hao, who had been granted the title of prince.
At over twenty years old, he held a position in court comparable to that of the crown prince. Both were strong contenders for the throne, and two years ago, no one would have imagined that this man could achieve such status.
Moreover, no one would have thought that this newly appointed emperor's favored person was under Dugu Hao's command.
"Good, you have done well. From now on, just focus on your duties and ensure that the emperor continues to trust you." The best pieces on the chessboard should be used at the most critical moments.
Dugu Hao had indeed played a good game; while others were unaware, he had gained the emperor's trust. While everyone else was trying to win over Yang Yichen, he had already become Dugu Hao's subordinate.
Yang Yichen nodded. "I will do my utmost." More importantly, it was about himself; who ascended to power in the future and whether he stood on the right side would greatly affect his own future.
Over the past two years, he had done much for Dugu Hao, secretly delivering continuous supplies from Lingjiang Province.
This was also one of the main reasons Dugu Hao trusted Yang Yichen.
After leaving Dugu Hao's place, Yang Yichen deliberately wandered around the bustling streets for a few rounds to shake off any tails. At this point, one of his subordinates informed him that his family was dining at one of the most famous restaurants in the capital, Hundred Flavors Inn.
As its name suggests, Hundred Flavors Inn offers a variety of delicacies for patrons to enjoy continuously. The dishes here are quite distinctive, and more importantly, there is a mysterious figure backing it up, allowing it to thrive steadily on this bustling street.
Yang Yichen quickened his pace and arrived here.
This is a three-story restaurant, a very traditional ancient building. The first floor has a large hall, while the upper floors have private rooms.
On Liu Qingxi's side, there were more people, including several women. Since they were newcomers, for safety reasons, they were all in the elegant room on the second floor.
Yang Yichen pushed the door open and saw that today’s guests filled several tables. The Wen Family and Liu Qingxi's siblings were laughing together.
“Qingxi, Qingyan, come, eat more,” Wen Family gently served dishes to the two children, radiating maternal warmth.
Liu Qingxi and Liu Qingyan sat obediently beside her, resembling a real family, with a warm atmosphere lingering in their hearts.
On the other side, the servants from both families sat at two tables—women at one table and men at a large table, with dishes already laid out.
While Wen Family attended to Liu Qingxi and her brother, she also called out to them: “Feel free to eat; don’t hold back.”
At that moment, the door creaked open, and Yang Yichen entered wearing official robes, adding an aura of righteousness and authority unique to his position.
“Yichan is back! Quickly come sit down and eat!” Wen Family was clearly very happy. After spending more than half a month on the road, eating dry rations and occasionally hunting if lucky, it was uncomfortable to just make do.
Now that he had finally stepped down from the carriage, he felt grounded and secure.
As for Yang Yichen's reputation as a sage, she didn’t understand much about it and wouldn’t ask too many questions; as long as she knew there was nothing wrong, that was enough.
This was why it felt more comfortable to be around Wen Family.
"Mother, Qingxi, Yan, I'm hungry too." Yang Yichen sat down and picked up his chopsticks to join them.
The table was filled with exquisite dishes that looked and smelled wonderful. Compared to the restaurants in Biqi Town, this place was even more refined. One had to admit that the nobility here was abundant, and the quality of food was different.
"Yang Yichen, we need to make our restaurant in Biqi Town just like this when we get back." It's always good to strive for improvement.
"Sure, I'll write a letter home later." Yang Yichen nodded calmly as he picked up a piece of food; these things were not a problem.
Meanwhile, the Six-Story Restaurant in Biqi Town was becoming increasingly popular. The staff chosen were all creative young people, managed meticulously by the Shopkeeper. Usually, Yang Yichen was busy with court affairs while Liu Qingxi dealt with household matters, so they had not been very involved lately.
"Oh my, seeing the capital for the first time is truly different." The Wen Family put down her chopsticks after eating about seventy percent full and gazed out the window.
Outside, buildings towered over one another, and passersby wore luxurious clothing. The streets were lined with opulent restaurants and shops, where one could see elegantly dressed young masters or groups of maids and guards.
Even though Wen Family had seen much more than ordinary women, it was clear that this place was indeed bustling; it was the most vibrant place she had ever encountered in her life.
"I just wonder if we'll feel like we did back in the Village," she thought anxiously, as it was a strange city filled with such splendor.
After dinner, everyone felt tired from their long journey and decided to head home to rest without much ado.
On their first night in the capital, everything felt unfamiliar—the strange place, the strange house, the strange bed—outside the window was a different view. Gone was the gentle breeze from the mountains; only silence remained after the noise.
Liu Qingxi suddenly found it hard to sleep. Tossing and turning with an empty mind, she unexpectedly recalled her past life—living alone in an empty house and remembering the time when she had just arrived in this world.
To make ends meet, she and Liu Qingyan would catch Cicada Monkeys, go up the mountain to dig for wild vegetables, and search for Wild Fruits.
In the blink of an eye, she had changed her location again. Although it wasn't a complete rebirth, it was still a new beginning.
Just as she turned over and looked out the window, a figure suddenly appeared, startling Liu Qingxi, who then smiled lightly.
The dark figure didn't linger for long, skillfully opening the window and jumping in with ease.
Liu Qingxi was at a loss for words.
"Can you not climb in through the wall every time?" Honestly, this person seemed to be addicted to it.
"How else am I supposed to get in? Are you not welcoming me?" Refreshing's voice came with a hint of laughter. Before Liu Qingxi could respond, he stepped up to the bed and casually took off his shoes before getting on.
It was clear that he had done this many times before, and Liu Qingxi thought this person was simply unbelievable.
The young man didn't give her a chance to refuse: "Even if you don't welcome me, it doesn't matter. I'm happy to come!"
With seemingly slender arms that were actually muscular and strong, he reached out and pulled Liu Qingxi into his embrace.
"How can you be so shameless?" Was this person really from ancient times? His wall-climbing skills were far superior to those of the more open era of her past life.
"I have nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to my own wife." The young man didn't even blush.
