Chapter Eighty-Eight Annual Major Event
"What’s going on with you all?" Zhao Guohong glared at the group, furious. "Instead of reflecting at home, who told you to come back?"
Hearing Zhao Guohong's words, Zhang Qiu suddenly laughed. It turned out that the homeroom teacher was unaware of his return, which made things easier. Zhang Qiu thought he must have made some new mistake.
Zhao Guohong, however, was oblivious to Zhang Qiu's thoughts. Seeing him laugh in such a situation only fueled her anger further. She punched Zhang Qiu on the arm and scolded, "Stop grinning! How can you laugh when something so serious has happened? Can you all give me a break? Zhang Qiu, how many troubles have you caused this time?"
Zhang Qiu looked at Zhao Guohong with guilt and said softly, "Teacher, it's my fault for causing you so much worry. I'm sorry. But..."
Zhao Guohong raised an eyebrow. "But what? Are you trying to defend yourself?"
"This time I came back because Director Zhao allowed it," Zhang Qiu quickly added.
"Director Zhao allowed you to come back?" Zhao Guohong scrutinized Zhang Qiu with suspicion, surprised internally. In all her years teaching at the school, she had never heard of students returning home for reflection and then coming back again. Of course, this wasn't due to a lack of enforcement; rather, those with connections simply wouldn't reflect.
"Teacher, it really was Director Zhao who let us come back," Gao Zhi chimed in from the side.
Zhao Guohong looked at Gao Zhi and dismissed her doubts; it must indeed be Director Zhao who permitted their return. But what reason could there be for them to come back? Zhao Guohong was puzzled.
If she couldn't figure it out, then so be it; having students return to class was a good thing, especially during this crucial period before the college entrance exams. No homeroom teacher wanted their students to perform poorly. Zhao Guohong fixed her gaze on Gao Zhi and said, "Gao Zhi, your grades have always been good. With the exams approaching, don't cause any more trouble." After that, she addressed everyone: "You all too! The college entrance exam is a significant event in your lives; pay attention and listen up!"
"We heard you," came the sparse replies. Zhao Guohong asked again, "Did you hear me?"
"We heard you!" Zhang Qiu shouted emphatically. Just then, Director Zhao pushed the door open and entered, surprised by the scene before him. He asked, "What are you all doing here?"
Zhao Guohong stepped aside from the group and said, "Director Zhao, I was talking with the students. I heard they came back because you allowed it?"
"Yes, it was me who brought them back," Director Zhao said with a smile as he walked in, taking off his dark blue suit jacket and hanging it on the coat rack before sitting back down. He added, "Teacher Zhao, you need to keep a closer eye on these students in your class. This time, they were allowed to return because of the upcoming college entrance exams, but they can't mess up again."
Seeing that Director Zhao was in a good mood, Zhao Guohong quickly patted his chest and assured him, "Don't worry, Director. These students have caused you trouble, and I will definitely manage them strictly from now on."
Director Zhao smiled and said, "Yes, strict management is necessary. The exam date is approaching, and I've been worried about it too."
"You all heard that, right? The director and the teacher are doing this for your own good. You're all grown up now; stop acting like children and doing immature things," Zhao Guohong advised earnestly.
Zhang Qiu and the others nodded in agreement.
"Alright, you can go back now," Zhao Guohong said.
Zhang Qiu and the others turned to leave. Zhang Qiu walked behind Jiang Xue and whispered, "It's fine, don't be scared."
Just as Zhang Qiu finished speaking, they heard their homeroom teacher call out from behind, "Zhang Qiu, Jiang Xue, wait a moment."
Zhang Qiu stopped in her tracks, and Jiang Xue turned around, her eyes filled with fear. Zhang Qiu winked at her, and Jiang Xue slowly smiled in response.
"You two must be hiding something from me," Zhao Guohong said as she approached Zhang Qiu. The class bell had already rung, leaving only the three of them in the empty hallway.
Zhang Qiu quickly shook her head, "No, there's nothing we're hiding from you."
Zhao Guohong didn't look at Zhang Qiu but focused on Jiang Xue instead. In a gentle tone, she asked, "Jiang Xue, why were you standing face to face with Zhang Qiu when I entered the classroom? It seemed like you were getting too close."
"Uh... no... nothing," Jiang Xue stammered, unsure of how to respond.
Zhang Qiu saw Zhao Guohong making things difficult for Jiang Xue and quickly interjected, "Teacher, we really don't have anything going on. She was just on duty that night, so she was just checking on me."
Zhao Guohong glanced at Zhang Qiu and then fixed his gaze on Jiang Xue, asking, "Really?"
"Yes, really," Jiang Xue nodded vigorously.
Zhang Qiu smiled meaningfully and said lightly, "Alright, let's go back. We're not kids anymore; what's most important is for you to weigh it in your own heart."
"Thank you, Teacher." Zhang Qiu and Jiang Xue hurried back to the classroom. At the moment they entered, Zhang Qiu discreetly took Jiang Xue's hand, only letting go reluctantly when their homeroom teacher arrived.
After experiencing the recent turmoil, Zhang Qiu couldn't help but feel emotional. Wang Guodong had stepped down, and his uncle had become Police Chief Wang Guodong. The family had signed an unreasonable demolition agreement. Although he had returned to school safely, he had also made two enemies for himself. Outside, Liu Xiaolong was already troublesome enough, and now even at school, there was Zeng Fan lurking around. A wave of sadness washed over Zhang Qiu as he sighed: those carefree days of focusing solely on studying would never return.
The class bell rang, and Zhao Guohong was still writing furiously while explaining loudly. It wasn't until five minutes after class that Zhao Guohong dropped the chalk and began packing up his textbooks to leave. As soon as the homeroom teacher left, the classroom immediately became lively; students eager to use the restroom rushed out. In the back row of the classroom, several classmates who usually hung out together gathered around Zhang Qiu, along with Gao Zhi and Yao Yu, completely surrounding him.
One student excitedly said to Zhang Qiu, "Brother Qiu, what happened that night was incredible! The whole school is talking about it; it's the Annual Major Event at Beiluan No. 1 High School. I heard you took down the guy in front of you in one go, and then a group of mysterious Masked Men came to help you..."
The student spoke animatedly, but Zhang Qiu merely smiled slightly. While he appreciated the attention being drawn to him, he knew better than to let it get to his head. He was well aware of his own capabilities; relying solely on his current strength was far from enough to establish himself at Beiluan No. 1 High School. Especially considering that it would be difficult for him and his group to contend with Zeng Fan's crew.
