Chapter 116: Disturbance at the Public Security Bureau
Zhang Qiu and Jiang Xue held hands as they followed He Jun downstairs. Upon reaching the first floor, they heard a commotion coming from the reception area. In addition to the on-duty police officers, there were dozens of men and women, making the already small reception area feel even more crowded. From a distance, Zhang Qiu spotted Liu Xiaolong among them.
Who is Liu Xiaolong? Everyone in the police station knows him. Although Wang Guodong had been transferred from the Public Security Bureau, his influence still lingered. Standing there without losing his authority, He Jun spoke in a deep voice: "I am He Jun, the trusted director of the Beilan County Public Security Bureau. What is going on here? Why are you shouting instead of following proper procedures?"
Liu Xiaolong fixed his gaze on Zhang Qiu and Jiang Xue standing beside He Jun and sighed inwardly; his brother-in-law's plan had failed. However, it didn't matter; he believed He Jun wouldn't dare protect Zhang Qiu. Liu Xiaolong smirked and said, "Director, I am here to report a case."
"Report cases through normal procedures; what are you shouting about?" He Jun didn't even glance at Liu Xiaolong, showing no respect for him.
Liu Xiaolong felt slighted but continued: "This matter is too serious; I'm afraid they can't make decisions." His confidence stemmed from a late-night conversation with his brother-in-law Wang Guodong, who had taught him many things.
He Jun raised an eyebrow and replied sternly: "What do you mean they can't make decisions? Everything is backed by law; we are a country governed by law. No one can manipulate it. The corrupt and self-serving Police Chief Wang Guodong has been removed; from now on, the highest authority in the Beilan County Public Security Bureau is the Constitution and the law."
He Jun's words stirred up excitement among the intern officers, but some veteran comrades remained expressionless and silent.
Liu Xiaolong's expression darkened slightly but he held his head high with a sneer, secretly admiring his brother-in-law. He Jun's performance had already been anticipated by Wang Guodong. Liu Xiaolong calmly stated each word clearly: "But this time, the culprit is your own nephew, Zhang Qiu!"
As soon as Liu Xiaolong finished speaking, the atmosphere in the room became heavy; everyone held their breath as their gazes shifted between He Jun, Zhang Qiu, and Liu Xiaolong.
Wang Hailong stepped forward and pointed at Liu Xiaolong angrily: "I warn you, this is the Public Security Bureau; everything said here must be backed by evidence!"
"Evidence, my brother is lying in the hospital, and the murderer is standing right next to your chief. You want me to provide evidence?" Liu Xiaolong almost roared this statement.
Zhang Qiu coldly watched Liu Xiaolong's performance, while He Jun cleared his throat and said coldly, "Hailong, take them through the proper procedures."
"Yes," Wang Hailong stood at attention and walked over to Liu Xiaolong, saying, "Please come with us."
Before Liu Xiaolong could move, a woman standing beside him suddenly collapsed to the ground, pounding her thighs and wailing loudly, "You can't protect the murderer... you can't do this... is there no justice? The criminals must be severely punished..."

Zhang Qiu noticed Liu Xiaolong's gaze and returned it with equal intensity. Liu Xiaolong was not only the one who injured his father but also repeatedly opposed him. If it weren't for his interference, none of these chaotic events would have occurred. Liu Xiaolong showed no remorse and came here aggressively again. This was intolerable; Zhang Qiu suddenly stepped forward and shouted angrily, "Shut your mouths; it's all because of you!"
Zhang Qiu pointed at Liu Xiaolong: "It's all because of you and your brother lying in the hospital. You brought a group of thugs to provoke us. You brought this upon yourselves and are still here spouting nonsense; how shameless!"
Zhang Qiu's furious shout and the momentum he exuded stunned the kneeling women into silence. They looked at him with panic and fear. Suddenly, the woman who had been crying on the ground sprang up and lunged at Zhang Qiu and Jiang Xue with clawing hands.
Zhang Qiu quickly stepped forward, shielding Jiang Xue behind him while keeping a close watch on the woman's movements, ready for anything. Wang Hailong, standing next to He Jun, also stepped forward to protect He Jun.
With a swift maneuver, Wang Hailong pinned the woman against the wall with practiced ease.
Everyone present—including Liu Xiaolong—was caught off guard by this scene; it hadn't been part of their plan. Liu Xiaolong looked at the woman pinned against the wall with mixed feelings; after all, she was his aunt. He shouted, "Let her go! He Jun observed that the commotion had calmed down and signaled Wang Hailong to release the woman before speaking, "When you encounter an incident, you should report it to the police and follow the proper procedures. You have come to the right place. If you had gone to the police station, you would still need to come to the public security bureau. Why is that?" He Jun paused, his wise demeanor resembling that of an elder. "As you mentioned, the victim was indeed stabbed. These two individuals standing beside me informed me of this matter immediately and turned themselves in."
"Turned themselves in!" The simple phrase elicited different reactions from everyone present.
Everyone was drawn in by He Jun's words. Some older comrades looked at him incredulously, thinking, "This director really dares to act, even against his own nephew."
More comrades praised the fact that they had finally encountered a good director. Reflecting on Wang Guodong's tenure, where protecting relatives was commonplace, it was clear that things had finally changed.
Liu Xiaofei's mother fixed her gaze on Zhang Qiu. He Jun's words confirmed her suspicions; the two individuals standing next to the director were indeed the culprits who harmed her son. However, she no longer had the courage to lunge at Zhang Qiu again.
