Chapter 119: A Rage for the Fair Lady
A gust of wind blew from east to west down the street, carrying yellow sand that drove pedestrians away. In an instant, the sand filled the air, and the billboards by the roadside rattled loudly, looking as if they might topple over.
Zhang Qiu walked through the storm, with the wind and sand hitting him without altering his pace. He did not try to dodge; expressionless, he moved forward steadily, step by step.
After reaching an intersection, Zhang Qiu stopped and stood there in a daze. Tears still lingered in the corners of his eyes; his beloved girl had gone into custody to save him, yet he couldn't even see her once. Zhang Qiu loathed his own helplessness and could only imagine how helpless Jiang Xue must feel at that moment.
Several names flashed through Zhang Qiu's mind: Wang Guodong, Liu Xiaolong, Liu Xiaofei, Zeng Fan. All of this was thanks to them. He could not let them off easily. Zhang Qiu punched a nearby utility pole, the flames of revenge burning fiercely within him; anger had consumed everything.
Zhang Qiu quickly made his way to the roadside and hailed a taxi. Once inside, he told the driver, "Beilan County Hospital." He had already decided that Liu Xiaofei must pay the price.
"Got it," replied the taxi driver as he slammed on the gas and sped off. The pop music playing in the car only heightened Zhang Qiu's irritation. When he got out, he left without a word of thanks.
Standing in front of Beilan County Hospital, Zhang Qiu instinctively looked up at the sign atop the building that read 'Beilan County Emergency Command Center.' His heart sank as he walked toward the lobby.
Upon entering the lobby, Zhang Qiu saw Wang Jinghan at the reception desk. She hurriedly tried to avoid him by turning into a side hallway, but unfortunately for her, Zhang Qiu spotted her anyway.
"Zhang Qiu!" Wang Jinghan called out as she ran toward him.
Zhang Qiu stopped and turned to face Wang Jinghan as she approached.
"Why are you avoiding me?" she asked.
"I'm not," Zhang Qiu replied somewhat defensively.
"Not at all? You really can't lie. What's wrong? You look terrible; why are you at the hospital? Are you sick?" Wang Jinghan reached out to touch Zhang Qiu's forehead.
After checking, she muttered to herself, "Not hot; your voice doesn't sound like you have a cold either. What’s going on with you?"
Since he had already been seen, it would be better to directly ask Wang Jinghan about Liu Xiaofei. With a decision made in his heart, Zhang Qiu asked, "Do you know if Liu Xiaofei is admitted to your hospital?"
"I know! You’re quite well-informed," Wang Jinghan said with a smile as she looked at Zhang Qiu. She still hadn’t noticed the fierce fire burning in his eyes.
"I just heard about it too. Which ward is he in?"
Wang Jinghan looked at Zhang Qiu's hollow eyes and suddenly had a bad thought. She grabbed Zhang Qiu's arm, anxiously looking at him, and asked, "You didn't hurt Liu Xiaofei, did you?"
Zhang Qiu continued to ask, "Han, tell me, which hospital room is he in?"
Wang Jinghan pressed on, "You tell me, is Liu Xiaofei's injury related to you?"
"Yes," Zhang Qiu nodded, still expressionless.
Wang Jinghan widened her eyes at Zhang Qiu. It was true; she couldn't believe it. She held onto Zhang Qiu's arm tightly and said, "How can you still dare to come here? You need to run! His injuries are so severe; the police will definitely catch you."
Zhang Qiu forced a smile, "I have already turned myself in and am out on bail."
"…"
"Tell me which ward he is in."
"What do you want to do?" Wang Jinghan looked at Zhang Qiu; his gaze seemed terrifying.
"Just tell me," Zhang Qiu kept avoiding Wang Jinghan's question.
Wang Jinghan shook her head firmly, "No, I can't tell you."
Zhang Qiu broke free from Wang Jinghan's grip and tightly held her shoulders, his sharp features almost touching her face. With a face full of sorrow, Zhang Qiu pleaded, "Han, please tell me. I'm begging you. I really need to know."
Wang Jinghan felt dizzy for a moment and after a while said, "Zhang Qiu, look at yourself now. What happened to you? Are you still the Zhang Qiu I know?"
"Jiang Xue was locked up in the detention center for trying to save me. All of this is because of Liu Xiaofei." Mentioning Jiang Xue made tears well up in Zhang Qiu's eyes again, but he held back from letting them fall.
Wang Jinghan felt as if she had been struck by lightning; she never expected such serious events to unfold in such a short time. She looked at Zhang Qiu with pain in her heart and pulled him into an embrace, softly comforting him, "If you want to cry, just let it out. Don't hold it in."
Zhang Qiu broke free from Wang Jinghan's embrace and looked into her eyes. "I'm begging you; please tell me which room he is in."
Wang Jinghan struggled internally. Seeing Zhang Qiu like this made her want to tell him where Liu Xiaolong was. However, if she did tell him, wouldn't that be putting him in danger? Wang Jinghan steeled herself and said, "I can't tell you. Don't do anything foolish; Jiang Xue wouldn't want to see you like this."
Zhang Qiu smiled faintly and silently turned to walk down the hallway. Wang Jinghan shouted from behind, "What are you going to do?"
"I'm going to find out myself," Zhang Qiu coldly replied.
Wang Jinghan watched as Zhang Qiu walked further away and shouted, "Zhang Qiu! I really misjudged you, so childish!"
Zhang Qiu's heart sank, but he continued walking forward. Upon seeing someone in a white coat, Zhang Qiu asked where the person who was hospitalized due to a knife wound was located.
Wang Jinghan worried about Zhang Qiu getting into trouble and followed him from a distance. With each person Zhang Qiu asked, Wang Jinghan silently prayed that he wouldn't get a response.
However, Zhang Qiu still managed to find out Liu Xiaofei's hospital room. He felt like a cheetah that hadn't eaten for a long time discovering its prey, his eyes gleaming with intensity as he quickly walked toward the elevator. Wang Jinghan sensed something was wrong and hurried after him, shouting, "Zhang Qiu, don't go, Zhang Qiu..."
Liu Xiaolong, I will never let you go today. You wanted to stab someone, and now you're out there carefree. Even if you're lying in a hospital bed, it's still a hundred times better than being in prison! Zhang Qiu thought angrily as he stood in the elevator, the doors slowly closing.
"Don't!" Wang Jinghan shouted desperately, bursting into tears. Jiang Xue crouched down in pain, holding her head. When she opened her eyes again, she was pleasantly surprised to find that Zhang Qiu was still on the first floor.
Just as the elevator doors were about to close, a powerful force pulled Zhang Qiu out of the elevator. He watched helplessly as the doors closed behind him.
