Chapter 123: A Crisis Lurking Everywhere
Zhang Qiu, Yang Yu, Gao Zhi, Wang Zhengxiang, and Yao Yu all looked at Zhao Pingchuan.
"The key issue is the reaction from society. Whether it's officials, businessmen, or those big-time thugs, will they agree to the growth of our Hall Society? The cake is only so big; if we take a piece, it means others get less. I'm worried that we will face pressure from multiple sides."
"Damn, then we're really in a crisis," Yang Yu sighed from the side.
Zhang Qiu nodded after hearing this; Zhao Pingchuan's concerns were not without merit. The purpose of establishing the organization was to protect the students, but leading them into fights seemed contrary to that goal. However, this time it was truly unavoidable. As for the societal reaction, Zhang Qiu had spent an entire night thinking about it.
"Relax, things aren't that bad. I've thought about what Zhao Pingchuan said too. This time we are forced to have the students fight; there's no other way to protect them without a confrontation. After the Ancient City Battle, regardless of how others react, there won't be any major movements right away. We will have a period of adjustment during which we can focus on development. In the future, for larger events, we should try not to bring along some students."
"Brother Qiu, won't that leave us with no one?" Gao Zhi raised a question. If they didn't bring students along, who else would they rely on? They couldn't just depend on their small group for fights; Brother Qiu was dealing with significant matters.
Seeing the confusion on everyone's faces, Zhang Qiu realized they misunderstood his point. He smiled slightly and said, "What I mean is that we must ensure the students who are focused on their studies are protected. Those who are less inclined to study and want to join us can certainly come along. Defeating Zeng Fan is still something that can be handled by people within the school."
Zhang Qiu paused for a moment before continuing, "Regardless of what happens, we cannot let the banner we hold up fall. In the future, when others mention our Hall Society, they should first think of us as a group that protects student interests—at least in our school."
"Brother Qiu, you sound a bit like a righteous hero from Water Margin," Yao Yu praised from the side.
Zhang Qiu smiled and nodded, "That's exactly my point. From now on, whatever we do must have justification behind it. A good reputation is like a golden signboard, especially in this day and age."
Gao Zhi gave Zhang Qiu a thumbs up, and Zhao Pingchuan silently admired Zhang Qiu's long-term vision.
Zhang Qiu continued, "But this alone is far from enough. Starting today, Yang Yu will take on the heavy responsibility of recruiting for Hall Society. We need to recruit members from vocational schools and Second High School—places that are slightly more chaotic. These students are stronger than those in our current school and will be our main force against Liu Xiaolong."
Yang Yu said seriously, "Brother Qiu, you can rest assured, this part is up to me."
Wang Zhengxiang sighed, "Brother Qiu, are you planning to take this to the next level?"
"That's right." Zhang Qiu's gaze was resolute, revealing a hint of defiance. "At first, I thought I could just avenge my dad and deal with Liu Xiaolong. After everything that has happened, I've realized that things are far more complicated than I imagined. Society is too dark; if I don't have enough light, I'll only end up being consumed. Once you step in, there's no turning back. I can only keep working hard so that no one dares to bully those I care about." By the end, Zhang Qiu's expression was somewhat forlorn and sad. He felt he was drifting further away and couldn't turn back, which was different from what he had initially thought.
"By the way, Brother Qiu, I still have the video we recorded back then." Wang Zhengxiang recalled the Ancient City Battle when he was responsible for protecting Jiang Xue and recorded with his phone. Although he later joined the fray, the camera remained on, focused on the battlefield.
"Show it to me quickly." For some reason, Zhang Qiu sensed that this video might be very important.
Seeing Zhang Qiu so excited, Wang Zhengxiang hurriedly pulled up the recorded video on his phone for Zhang Qiu to watch. Zhang Qiu took the phone; the video was about twenty minutes long, and he fast-forwarded while watching.
The Hall Society and Zeng Fan's Both Parties were at a standoff in the ancient city. First, Liu Xiaolong and Liu Xiaofei joined Zeng Fan's side, then Song Weidong joined their side. Zeng Fan stood in front of him; although he couldn't hear the words, Zhang Qiu remembered every single one spoken by Zeng Fan. For the sake of the brothers in their society, Zhang Qiu was startled and knelt down but was helped up by Yang Yu and others. Brothers who had been ambushed beforehand rushed up from both sides; bricks and stones flew everywhere as Both Parties clashed together. Liu Xiaofei lunged at him with a gleaming knife from behind!
Zhang Qiu stared intently at his image on the screen. Just as Liu Xiaofei pulled out the knife to stab him, a white figure burst out from the crowd. With a slender hand gripping a small fruit knife, it stabbed into Liu Xiaofei's body again and again. Turning around, Liu Xiaofei's eyes widened as his body gradually gave way and fell into a pool of blood.
The scene fell into dead silence; everyone's gaze turned to Liu Xiaofei lying on the ground. Jiang Xue stood frozen in place, blood still dripping from the fruit knife in her hand. Zhang Qiu rushed forward and snatched the fruit knife from Jiang Xue's grip, pulling her tightly into his embrace as people began to panic and flee from the brawl.
This was Zhang Qiu's first time seeing that scene; if he had been shocked then, now he was deeply shaken. Zhang Qiu remained silent, not daring to speak; no one dared to interrupt him. After a long while, he finally said, "Send me the video later."
"Okay." Wang Zhengxiang nodded in agreement.
"Skewers are here." The Boss personally called out, holding a tray high above his head as he walked through several tables to reach Zhang Qiu and his group. He placed the tray down and neatly arranged beers on the table with his right hand. The Boss smiled broadly and said, "You all eat first; I'm still grilling more. Once they're ready, I'll bring them over."
"Thank you," Zhang Qiu said to Boss.
"There's no need to be polite; you always take care of my business," Boss replied with a cheerful smile. That's how business is done, welcoming customers from all directions.
Another beer was placed on the table. Yao Yu picked up the bottle, bit off the cap, and filled everyone's glasses one by one. Finally, he poured himself a glass and said, "I’m late today, so I’ll take a penalty shot first." He tilted his head back and drank.
Zhang Qiu quickly stopped him, "Why the rush? It's not your fault for being late; we all live nearby. This first drink should be a toast together."
"Brother Qiu is right; we should all drink together. You can't drink alone," Yang Yu said with a smile, raising his glass.
"Yes, yes, let’s all drink together."
"Clink!" The glasses collided, splashing some liquid onto the table and scattering in all directions. The six men tilted their heads back and drank it all in one go. After putting down their glasses, everyone laughed. Zhang Qiu looked at his brothers in front of him and felt an unprecedented sense of joy.
Zhang Qiu raised his glass again and walked over to the neighboring table to toast with Yang Yu's group. Yang Yu's people respectfully raised their glasses with both hands and drank it all in response to the calls of "Boss."
