Chapter 159: The Annoying Red-Faced Guard
Zhang Qiu and Jiang Xue had already let go of each other's hands. Zhang Qiu stood in front of Jiang Xue, looking at the approaching Red-Faced Guard, and said, "We're just here for school."
The Red-Faced Guard glared with his flushed face and replied, "You dare hold hands while coming to school? Don't you know that the school prohibits inappropriate relationships?"
"But this is outside the school," Zhang Qiu argued with the Red-Faced Guard. If he complied, trouble would surely follow. It's not like they were holding hands inside the school; isn't that a bit too controlling?
The Red-Faced Guard raised his voice to emphasize, "Just because you're outside doesn't mean it's allowed! As long as you're a student of No. 1 High School, inappropriate relationships are not permitted!"
"Is it just because we held hands?"
"Yes!" The Red-Faced Guard's tone was firm, and many passing students turned their attention to the couple.
Zhang Qiu scoffed at the Red-Faced Guard's words. What era is this? Such outdated thinking. Zhang Qiu said, "What’s normal or abnormal about dating? I’ve held hands with girls while in school; everyone does it. We even dance on the playground. Does that mean the whole school is engaging in inappropriate relationships?"
With that statement, Zhang Qiu put the Red-Faced Guard in his place. This Red-Faced Guard was notorious at Beiluan No. 1 High School, not because he was particularly good at his job, but because he had the worst reputation. Whenever it was his turn to supervise, the electric gate would only open halfway, no matter how crowded it was. Many students had argued with him over this, but the outcome always left the students at a disadvantage.
"Hey, you’re still trying to talk back! What are your names?" The Red-Faced Guard puffed up his cheeks, his already red face turning even redder with anger.
"Sorry about that; we won't do it again," Jiang Xue quickly apologized to the guard, fearing that things might escalate between Zhang Qiu and him.
Seeing someone back down only fueled the guard's arrogance further. "Oh, so you know how to apologize now? Why didn’t you do that earlier? Don’t look down on me just because I’m a gatekeeper; I’m also part of the Security Department! Inappropriate relationships are my responsibility to handle. You two are really pushing your luck by holding hands in front of the school!"
Zhang Qiu was speechless; who looked down on him? Was he suffering from paranoia?
"What are you all crowding around for instead of going to class?" The Red-Faced Guard angrily shouted at the students who had gathered to watch.
Normally, when the Red-Faced Guard spoke up, these students would immediately disperse. However, today’s situation surprised him; instead of leaving, more students gathered around.
Zhang Qiu was now one of the most well-known figures at Beiluan No. 1 High School. Many students who passed by were members of the Hall Society and came over when they saw their leader in trouble.
Zhang Qiu smiled as he watched the Red-Faced Guard struggle with his authority. The red-faced guard took two steps back and shouted loudly, "What do you all want?"
The other guards on duty in the security room also came out at this moment, looking at the large group of students in front of them. Jiang Xue tugged at Zhang Qiu's arm and whispered, "Just back at school, don't cause trouble. Get them to disperse quickly."
"Okay, I’ll listen to you." Zhang Qiu understood that he couldn't confront the school directly, but if the Red-Faced Guard noted down his and Jiang Xue's names, he would probably have to reflect on it and face his parents.
"Everyone go to class first," Zhang Qiu ordered the dozen or so people. Some were reluctant to leave and loudly asked, "Brother Qiu, what about you?"
"Don't worry, I'll be fine."
After Zhang Qiu reassured them, the club members left with a few glances back. The gathered students dispersed, and the guards let out a sigh of relief. The Red-Faced Guard became arrogant again, throwing a notebook at Zhang Qiu and shouting, "Write down both your names."
With a thud! The notebook fell to the ground, and Zhang Qiu didn't even bother to pick it up.
Feeling humiliated, the Red-Faced Guard was about to step forward and harshly criticize Zhang Qiu when suddenly Zhang Qiu shouted, "Run!" and pulled Jiang Xue as they dashed toward the teaching building. Jiang Xue was caught off guard and was dragged along until they reached the bottom of the teaching building.
"That was thrilling," Jiang Xue said, patting her rising chest in amazement.
The guards exchanged glances, none of them expecting these two students to have such boldness to run away under their watchful eyes. By the time they reacted, the two had already disappeared.
Inside the teaching building, Zhang Qiu and Jiang Xue were panting heavily as they looked at each other before bursting into laughter. Jiang Xue said, "I thought you would have some clever plan; turns out it was just running."
Zhang Qiu laughed too: "In times of trouble, fleeing is the best strategy; it's the best solution."
As they entered the classroom just as the bell rang for class, Jiang Xue's sudden appearance caused many in the class to cheer despite the teacher being present. The Geography Teacher frowned slightly but relaxed when he saw Jiang Xue standing at the door. He said lightly, "Come in and start class."
Jiang Xue smiled faintly at the Geography Teacher and she and Zhang Qiu returned to their seats. The Geography Teacher tapped on the blackboard a few times and said, "Settle down now; we will begin class. This lesson will review Germany. As you all know, Germany's Ruhr Area is world-famous for..."
"Boss, did your sister-in-law come out?" Wang Zhengxiang asked eagerly as he sat next to Zhang Qiu.
Zhang Qiu smiled and replied, "She did."
"How did she get out?"
"Uh..." Zhang Qiu was momentarily speechless. The story behind Jiang Xue being able to come out safely could fill an entire book by itself. In the end, he simply answered, "High-level maneuvering, plus Meng the Boss helped."
“Meng Tuanjie!?” Wang Zhengxiang covered his mouth, almost shouting out loud.
Zhang Qiu said, “That’s him.”
Wang Zhengxiang was shocked, staring wide-eyed at Zhang Qiu: “Boss, you’re amazing! You just joined and Meng the Boss is already helping you.” He knew how difficult it was for Jiang Xue to come out; even County Police Chief Wang Guodong found it hard to manage, yet Meng the Boss had accomplished it.
As soon as Jiang Xue came out, everything looked good to Zhang Qiu, and he felt happy doing anything. He smiled and said, “After class, I have another piece of good news to announce.”
“Good news, Boss? What else could be good?”
“Don’t rush; I’ll announce it after class.”
“We’re sitting so close; just tell me first.” Wang Zhengxiang pressed Zhang Qiu for an answer. After being desk mates with Zhang Qiu for half a year, he only recently discovered how incredible Zhang Qiu was, and he often surprised people.
Zhang Qiu smiled mysteriously: “This good news is…”
“Brother Qiu, what’s wrong?” Wang Zhengxiang asked. He was listening intently when suddenly Zhang Qiu closed his mouth and suddenly leaned over the desk.
