Chapter Twelve: Of Course, Let's Sleep Together
When Zhang Qiu proposed it, Jiang Xue was the first to respond, "I'll go!"
Zhang Qiu smiled and patted Jiang Xue's head, saying, "Of course you should go."
"Brother Qiu, I'm going too." Wang Zhengxiang, who was worried about having nothing to do during the holiday, welcomed the idea of going hiking with open arms. Despite his chubby appearance, he didn't mind any exhaustion from playing.
"Great, what about the others?" Zhang Qiu was surprised that his suggestion received such a sparse response. Could it be that everyone was busy preparing for their college entrance exams?
"Brother Qiu, I won't go. It's the holiday, and I'm going back to my grandmother's house to see her."
Gao Zhi was the first to decline. Zhang Qiu nodded and added, "It's fine if you don't want to go; this isn't a mandatory group outing. It's just for those who have free time to hang out together, so don't feel pressured."
"Brother Qiu, I won't go either. I'll stay at White Day Fire to keep an eye on things." Yang Yu was the second to decline. While he did need to watch over the place, there was a deeper reason—he didn't want to be a third wheel.
Wang Zhengxiang suddenly said, "Brother Qiu, I still won't go..."
"Why not?"
"Just because I'm not going; there's no reason."
No matter how Zhang Qiu tried to persuade him, Wang Zhengxiang remained firm in his decision. Among the others, Gao Zhi wasn't going, Yang Yu wasn't going, and Yao Yu also had to go home to study. The only ones going were Zhang Qiu, Jiang Xue, and Zhao Pingchuan. Zhao Pingchuan was definitely going since he was the host; their first stop would be his grandfather's house.
"Can I go?" Rui Rui suddenly asked. She seemed quite interested in going hiking. Of course, she was also very interested in Zhang Qiu.
Zhang Qiu was momentarily at a loss for words. He didn't want Rui Rui to come along; if she did, it would complicate things for him. The scenario of being surrounded by two beautiful girls as soon as they stepped out was something only seen in fantasies—such situations rarely happen in reality. The chances of two people liking the same person and being okay with sharing them were as rare as winning a lottery jackpot. In any case, Zhang Qiu, Jiang Xue, and Rui Rui were not in that situation. However, refusing Rui Rui wasn't easy since they all belonged to the same club and frequented the same bar; it would be awkward to turn her down.
Zhao Pingchuan, being perceptive, noticed Zhang Qiu's dilemma and his unspoken thoughts. He stepped in and said, "Sister Rui, maybe you shouldn't go."
Rui Rui widened her eyes and asked, "Why?"
Zhao Pingchuan explained with a frown, "In the countryside, there are those big tile-roofed houses with three rooms in a row, and the middle room is the passageway. Brother Qiu went and slept with his sister-in-law, while I slept with my grandfather. If another guy goes, it would be fine; he could sleep with me and my grandfather since the bed is big enough. But if you go, where will you sleep, right?"
"Then I'll just sleep with Jiang Xue and the others. We can just hang up a curtain," Rui Rui said, unfazed by Zhao Pingchuan's awkwardness and even proposed a solution so quickly that Zhao Pingchuan couldn't find a way to refuse.
Zhang Qiu thought about it and decided to directly reject Rui Rui. For Jiang Xue, if it hurt someone, then so be it.
"Rui Rui..."
"Let's go together."
As soon as Zhang Qiu opened his mouth, Jiang Xue interrupted him. To Zhang Qiu's surprise, Jiang Xue actually agreed.
Jiang Xue smiled generously at Rui Rui and said, "It's just right to take a break; there's Yan Mountain in Nanlan County worth visiting."
Jiang Xue's invitation for Rui Rui to join was well thought out. No matter what, Rui Rui was an elder in the bar scene. Zhang Qiu had just arrived at the bar and was still on shaky ground; if he had an unpleasant encounter with an elder, it wouldn't be good for his future. Compared to Zhang Qiu's future, her own feelings seemed trivial. After all the reasoning, she loved Zhang Qiu; that was all that mattered.
Rui Rui never expected that the one who agreed to her going would be Jiang Xue. She instinctively asked, "So how are we going to sleep?"
"Of course we'll sleep together."
Together! At almost the same moment, everyone’s ears echoed Jiang Xue's words. Zhang Qiu looked at Jiang Xue in confusion, wondering what she was trying to do.
"We'll share a room, and let Zhang Qiu sleep in Zhao Pingchuan's room; that solves the problem," Jiang Xue said sweetly while sticking out her tongue at Zhang Qiu as if to say, see? Jiang Xue's words made Yang Yu, Gao Zhi, Wang Zhengxiang, and others smirk at Zhang Qiu. Zhang Qiu helplessly pouted and shot them a glare.
And so it was happily decided, except for Zhang Qiu who felt a bit regretful. For lunch, they ordered takeout and had a simple meal at the bar. It was too hot outside for them to feel like going out to eat. As for revenge plans, Zhang Qiu still waited for an opportunity to discuss it; the reason they stayed at the bar was precisely for this chance.
Rui Rui was responsible for the front desk, so she couldn't always be mingling with them. Once Rui Rui left, Zhang Qiu had Wang Zhengxiang lock the office door. A few people gathered around the sofa, and Zhang Qiu spoke first: "The ones who came to cause trouble last night were undoubtedly Mao Tong. My idea is to take revenge, and to do it in kind. They smashed our White Day Fire, so we should go smash their Azure Blue Rose. This place belongs to Chen Hu, a fierce subordinate of Lin Tao, so let's give them a taste of their own medicine."
"Sounds good, let's go for a big one!" Yang Yu rubbed his fists together, eager to try. Last night, a group of about fifty people suddenly burst in with clubs. They smashed everything in sight, even the wine glasses, leaving them shattered on the floor. The regular crew at the bar, along with the twenty people Yang Yu brought, could only hold the second-floor staircase and prevent them from going up even a step. Unfortunately, the facilities in the first-floor hall were completely destroyed.
Yang Yu could tell these people were there just to smash things; when they couldn't get up to the second floor, they decisively gave up and wreaked havoc on the first floor instead. Yang Yu stood his ground with his Brothers against them; they didn't aim for vital spots but relied on their numbers to overwhelm him, striking at weaker areas of his body. In terms of numbers, Yang Yu was at a disadvantage; although everyone was only slightly injured, they felt deeply humiliated. Yang Yu had been thinking about revenge since then. Now that Zhang Qiu had arrived, the opportunity for revenge was here.
No one present opposed this plan. Zhang Qiu curiously looked at Zhao Pingchuan and asked, "Zhao Pingchuan, don't you have anything to say?"
"Nothing much—let's fight!"
"I thought you would advise me to calm down."
"Brother Qiu, if I advised you, would you listen? Besides, they attacked our brothers; it's only right that we retaliate!"
"Haha, you're speaking my mind." Zhang Qiu felt even more confident in his judgment of people and said with a smile: "We won't fight without certainty; since everyone agrees, let's discuss how we're going to handle this fight."
"Brother Qiu, let me share my thoughts first."
"Alright, Zhao Pingchuan, go ahead."
"The current situation is that they are strong and we are weak. This isn't about boosting their morale at our expense; it's an objective fact. But one thing is clear: we far exceed them in one aspect—our unity..."
Zhao Pingchuan's words stirred everyone's spirits; Yang Yu, Gao Zhi, and Wang Zhengxiang all began sharing their opinions. Finally, Zhang Qiu smiled and said: "Actually, we have another obvious advantage."
Yang Yu, Zhao Pingchuan, Gao Zhi, and Wang Zhengxiang almost simultaneously turned to look at Zhang Qiu and asked: "What is it?"
"We know more than they do." Zhang Qiu simply stated those four words. Zhao Pingchuan immediately understood what Zhang Qiu meant and praised him: "Brother Qiu, you're right; this is indeed a significant advantage for us."
"Hey, wait a minute, why is it you two again?" Gao Zhi shouted, looking at Zhang Qiu and Zhao Pingchuan with disdain.
Zhang Qiu and Zhao Pingchuan exchanged smiles, and Zhang Qiu said, "No wonder you're studying liberal arts; where did your logical thinking go? What I mean is, they definitely wouldn't expect us to hit Azure Blue Rose. Mao Tong brought people to mess with us, claiming it was Lu Bin's doing. To see through this smokescreen, we need to investigate a bit, that's the first point."
"The second point is that our place has just been attacked, and we are clearly at a disadvantage. We should be recuperating instead of seeking revenge. Even if we want revenge, we shouldn't act so quickly. Just like Brother Leopard said, times have changed; now people are out for money. We're different; we want money too, but we also value honor. They attacked us, and we should hit back immediately—that's what feels satisfying. Mao Tong won't see that coming. Even if he does, he wouldn't think we'd directly target Azure Blue Rose since that's Chen Hu's territory."
"Brother Qiu, you're brilliant." After listening to Zhang Qiu's analysis, Gao Zhi couldn't help but give a thumbs up and sighed, "Brother Qiu, how did you end up studying liberal arts? With your logical skills, you'd be a top student in the sciences."
After Gao Zhi finished speaking, they all burst into laughter. Zhang Qiu replied, "You wouldn't understand; I have a dream of becoming a writer."
Regardless of their discussions, the Hall Society's Brothers quickly realized a serious problem. Azure Blue Rose was Chen Hu's territory, and Chen Hu was a fierce general under Lin Tao—deeply entrenched. His territory had at least a hundred people stationed there regularly. On their side, Biao Ge wouldn't allow any rash actions, and they certainly couldn't rely on the Stone Dagger Gang's strength. The only power Zhang Qiu could leverage was that of the Hall Society.
Did they really have to gather the Brothers still in school? The college entrance exams were just around the corner. Zhang Qiu couldn't help but recall Principal Wu Wu Deyu's words when he returned to school: "Your club must not cause any trouble in this month leading up to the exams. Can you manage that?" "Yes!" Zhang Qiu had answered decisively.
Zhang Qiu shook his head; he couldn't use the school Brothers—not because he feared taking responsibility for severe penalties from the school but because this matter carried heavier responsibilities that he simply couldn't bear.
Taking a group of students to attack Azure Blue Rose would lead to predictable outcomes. Regardless of success or failure, someone would get hurt. In the best-case scenario, there would still be injuries. And these Brothers would be facing their college entrance exams in a month—the most important test of their lives. This responsibility was something Zhang Qiu truly could not shoulder.
Was there no other way? For a moment, everyone fell into deep thought.
