After the Atmospheric Environment was destroyed by the Deep Sea Alien Race, the overall temperature of Earth did not rise significantly, but humidity increased dramatically, leading to drastic changes in the ecological environment across almost all regions.
The most noticeable change occurred in the Antarctic Glacier, which melted considerably. This caused sea levels to rise, submerging many coastal areas.
The Survivors within China all fled to the Midwest region without exception.
As the Dragon Vein of the Zhonghua Empire, the Qinling Mountains, which stretch for thousands of miles, became a habitat for numerous Survivors.
The area where Chen Zao currently resides is a branch on the northern slope of the Qinling Mountain Range, with an average elevation above 15 meters.
A year ago, this area was located in a warm temperate zone with rich vegetation, characterized by mixed coniferous and broadleaf forests.
However, with rising temperatures and increased humidity, the ecological environment of this mountain area has transformed into a high-temperature, high-humidity Tropical Rainforest!
When Chen Zao stepped out of the Air Raid Shelter, it felt like entering an entirely new world.
Before him were enormous shrubs that had expanded under the influence of Toxic Vapor, reaching towards the sky!
The tallest trees could grow over 5 meters!
Yet their trunks were not straight; they were gnarled and twisted, covered in bumps and protrusions that obscured the sunlight, creating a rather unsettling sight.
The mountains were covered in foul-smelling, damp vegetation.
Occasionally, blooming flowers appeared, but they exuded an eerie coloration.
Their scent was a mix of foulness and sweetness that made it difficult to approach them.
This Rainforest was filled with various dangers: mutated plants and animals, terrifying Scaled Corpses, and remnants left behind by the Deep Sea Army that had attacked six territories like a tsunami—the Shrimp Soldiers and Crab Generals.
Though referred to as Shrimp Soldiers and Crab Generals, these Deep Sea Beasts did not resemble shrimp or crabs at all.
These Deep-Sea Creatures looked more like aliens from a science fiction movie.
They possess hard shells and limbs as sharp as knives, becoming extremely brutal and bloody when they go on the attack.
In recent years, the frequency of the Deep Sea Alien Race leading the Beast Army to sweep through the Survivor Base on land has decreased significantly.
Almost every year, there is only one bulldozer-like offensive from the Southern Hemisphere to the Northern Hemisphere.
They typically launch their attacks during the hottest times with the highest humidity.
Usually, they begin their invasion of the Southern Hemisphere at the end of December, advancing slowly from south to north, sweeping through until June, covering the entire Northern Hemisphere, and then returning to the sea to lie in wait for their next offensive.
Two months ago, in mid-June, when the Survivor Base in the Gubei Mountain Area was attacked by the Deep Sea Army, Chen Zao was so frightened that he didn't dare to venture into the apocalypse for two weeks.
When he returned, he caught the tail end of a sweep.
The cruel and bloody scene at that time left Chen Zao shocked and unforgettable!
The sky was filled with a rain of blood!
It was as if the blood of slaughtered humans and animals had evaporated into the air and then fell back down, enveloping the entire world in a sea of crimson mist.
The air was thick with a strong smell of ocean brine mixed with the stench of blood from slaughter, far more intense than usual foul odors.
The mountains were littered with corpses—those of Survivors as well as various mutated animals—along with destroyed Rainforest vegetation, creating a true hell on earth!
When the Ocean Army arrived on land, they spared no living creature, killing indiscriminately; they were as cold as demons come to harvest lives.
From above, millions of Deep Sea Beasts charged toward land in swarms, like termites passing through, leaving nothing alive in their wake.
Fortunately, the Qinling mountain range is far from the ocean and is not a primary battlefield for the Deep Sea Army's frenzied assaults.
However, the incoming auxiliary forces still pose a serious threat to the mountain Survivor Base.
Every June, the hundreds of Survivor Bases in the Qinling Mountain Range are swept through in a frenzy, resulting in heavy losses for humanity.
After being attacked, the resilient Survivors rebuild their bases, fortifying their defenses and waiting for the next wave of assaults from the Deep Sea Army.
This cycle repeats year after year, as if trapped in an endless loop with no end in sight.
Once, Gubei Town was a thriving place, but it has long been reduced to a treacherous swamp.
Chen Zao had ventured back near Gubei Town, and the stench and decay he encountered were unbearable.
The land that nurtured him has been ravaged by the Deep Sea Alien Race, filling Chen Zao with deep-seated hatred for them!
If he could become strong enough in the future, he would definitely turn the tides! He would storm the lair of the Deep Sea Alien Race and make them taste the bitterness of having their home destroyed!
However, that was merely a thought.
To think he could single-handedly overturn the Deep Sea Alien Race's stronghold was unrealistic; it was like an ant trying to shake a tree—utterly foolish.
Chen Zao's immediate priority was to bring hope for strength to those still blinded by the illusion of peace during the Golden Age. He aimed to unite people in a world that belonged to him and prepare for a good fight against the Deep Sea Alien Race in the future.
This already devastated apocalyptic world could serve as a trial ground for extracting energy.
Having not been in this apocalypse for long, Chen Zao did not yet fully understand his surroundings.
From what he knew, there was a strategically located stronghold called Panlong Stronghold on Panlong Mountain, several kilometers northwest of the Air Raid Shelter. It was the largest gathering place for Survivors in the Gubei Mountain Area, housing over 50,000 refugees.
Centered around Panlong Stronghold were five defensive bases arranged in an irregular star shape at varying distances. These bases were named Phoenix Mountain Base to the northwest, Oxhead Mountain Base to the northeast, Moonfall Bay Base to the southwest, Spirit Mountain Base to the southeast, and Luohanpo Base directly south.
These five defensive bases also existed in stronghold form and were led by powerful Survivor families, all under the dictatorial rule of Chief Lei Dongshan from Panlong Stronghold.
The five strongholds, along with Panlong Stronghold, are collectively known as the Panlong Six Strongholds.
Within a radius of one hundred kilometers, all Survivors will flock to these Panlong Six Strongholds.
With their advantageous mountainous terrain, the Panlong Six Strongholds serve as an excellent location for Survivors to defend against the Deep Sea Army's raids.
Among them, the closest to the Air Raid Shelter is the Spirit Mountain Base, which is approximately only 5 kilometers away in a straight line.
Due to the muddy and overgrown swampy mountain paths, and the various dangers present in the Rainforest, traversing this 5 kilometers is quite challenging.
Further away from the Air Raid Shelter is the larger Luohanpo Base.
Chen Zao has visited both types of mountain stronghold bases.
For bases even farther away, including Panlong Stronghold, Chen Zao has not yet been.
The stronghold features complete official trading outlets and open markets.
The gold and Beast Oil in Chen Zao's storage space were exchanged at these two strongholds.
After exchanging supplies at Spirit Mountain Base a few times, Chen Zao plans to head to Luohanpo Base for more exchanges; he never trades too much in one stronghold to avoid drawing attention.
Last time he exchanged at Spirit Mountain, this time Chen Zao needs to travel further to Luohan Slope to exchange for gold.
