At first, the old man had his doubts about her gender, but upon witnessing her eating habits, he was convinced that she was just a boy, and a child at that.
Her appetite was astonishing; she devoured three bowls of rice, two bowls of porridge, and several plates of dishes until everything was clean. The old man and the middle-aged woman stared in disbelief.
"Alright, you’ve finished eating, now leave. Don’t waste our food here."
After finishing her meal, she felt a surge of energy. The hot food had made her sweat profusely, leaving her feeling sticky and uncomfortable. Just as she put on her shoes and intended to take a bath, the old man yanked her arm sharply, causing her bundle to drop. With a loud bang, the door slammed shut behind her.
Xia Muxin touched her nose in confusion. This old man was truly strange; he had saved her and fed her, only to kick her out in the end. What an odd person. However, this place was indeed peculiar, and it would be better to leave sooner rather than later. With a lingering glance around, she picked up her bundle and walked away.
"Mother, you know who she is. Why didn’t you keep her? And why didn’t you let her die?"
As soon as Xia Muxin left, the middle-aged woman sighed deeply and wiped her damp eyes before speaking up.
The old man gazed at the Spirit Tablet in the Main Hall for a long time before sighing again.
"Perhaps this is fate..."
Xia Muxin followed a path directly to the cemetery. To her surprise, she arrived correctly. She placed a grass mat over the grave and bowed several times before standing with her bundle for a moment before leaving.
Along the way, she picked up a few bottles that contained a faint Herbal Fragrance, likely left behind by someone who had been injured. She found a stream with water and washed the bottles clean, drying them with the corner of her clothing. Only then did she open her bundle to examine what the old man had called treasures.
After scrutinizing them for a while, she discovered various seeds she had never seen before—one type resembled sesame but was slightly smaller. She speculated it might be Dragon Fruit seeds; it was hard to believe such things existed in this era. Some looked like Apple Seeds, while others resembled peach pits. The only seed she recognized was the Pecan Seed because she had seen it before. This discovery filled her with joy as she set aside all doubts and carefully packed away dozens of different seeds into her pockets.
Just as she entered the city, however, she was captured by people sent by Rong Li.
Upon returning to Rong Li's residence, she disregarded everything else and took a comfortable bath. The important bottles were safely tucked into her pockets. Being small in stature meant that even though her clothes were oversized, it wasn’t obvious that she had stuffed several bottles inside them. Moreover, since she mixed all the seeds together in those four bottles without worrying about flavors mixing due to their dryness, no one would notice.
After bathing, she was promptly invited to the Cafeteria where the Fat Cook was already seated at the table with his bulging eyes fixed on her.
"Miss Muxin, where have you been these past few days? We were so worried about you," Ouyang Xuan asked with concern as soon as she sat down, though a strange glimmer flickered in his eyes.
Xia Muxin hurriedly picked up some food and took a few bites of rice, eating in a rush. When Ouyang Xuan asked her something, tears streamed down her face, and she dropped her chopsticks, bursting into loud sobs.
"Wah... you all said I almost met the King of Hell, thinking I would never see you again, boohoo..."
Now, she was increasingly suspicious of Ouyang Xuan's motives. What connection could there be between the Jiang Clan and the Ouyang Family?
For some reason, the shadow of a killer from her dream seemed to overlap with Ouyang Xuan, but that figure had a fierce expression, unlike Ouyang Xuan's gentle demeanor.
Shen Muhan and the others had mentioned that in Tianli Kingdom, there was only one family with the surname Ouyang, and that was the richest merchant in the world.
And what about Qi Nation?
Of course, she wouldn't ask such questions in this setting or to these people; instead, she needed to find another opportunity to inquire further.
Rong Li's dark eyes were unsettling as he looked at Xia Muxin with an enigmatic expression. Her heart raced as she cried even harder.
"You insisted on going out despite my warnings. How come you weren't sold off to become a human pig?"
Rong Li suddenly slammed his chopsticks down on the table, speaking coldly.
Human pig...
Xia Muxin shivered. What kind of place was Qi Nation? The thought of being sold off like that made her realize how fortunate she was not to have been captured.
"Wah... I want to go home, go home..."
Fear filled her eyes as tears flowed like pearls from a broken string, unstoppable. This time, she truly cried, recalling every moment of her journey; her panic intensified in this strange and unfamiliar environment—she was genuinely terrified.
"Want to go home? It's simple. Just produce what I want, and I'll let you go home."
Rong Li's gaze darkened slightly, a hint of regret passing through his mind as he half-tempted and half-threatened Xia Muxin.
Instantly, Xia Muxin stopped crying. Instead, she lowered her head and quickly devoured the rice in her bowl. In just a few moments, she finished an entire bowl and swiftly set down her chopsticks before standing up.
"I am full."
Her mind was now a tangled mess. Whether it was Rong Li or Ouyang Xuan, she found it increasingly difficult to understand them. They spoke so eloquently, creating what they desired and then letting her go. How could someone as ambitious as him be satisfied? Once he tasted the power of the explosives and drugs, he might very well want to swallow the Azure Sky Six Kingdoms whole. He had once mentioned that within the Azure Sky Six Kingdoms, there were Five Nations wanting to kill Shen Muhan's brother, and he was no exception...
She had considered making a few things for them to test their power. However, once they tried it, the older men would surely discover her whereabouts and rush to save her. But this journey had already taken nearly a month; with his abilities, he still couldn't find her. Either something had gone wrong, or Rong Li was more formidable than she had imagined, deliberately preventing them from tracking her down. Thus, she dismissed that thought. After all, she had plenty of time to waste; it was just a matter of whether they could afford to wait.
Night!
The world was shrouded in chaos, with fierce winds howling and thunder cracking, as if a storm were approaching.
Shen Muhan had searched for several days and even infiltrated Rong Li's residence but still couldn't find Xia Muxin. At that moment, in an upscale guest room, he drank alone from a cup of strong liquor, each sip burning his heart.
He couldn't recall how long it had been since he last drank like this; yet now, with each drink, his memories became clearer. Before him was Xia Muxin's charming little face, her brows like willow leaves and her eyes like crescent moons, playfully sticking out her tongue:
"Uncle, come on! Come catch me... Hehehe..."
In a daze, Shen Muhan reached out but grasped only air, murmuring mockingly to himself:
"Muxin, Uncle is truly useless. It's been over a month and I still haven't found you..."
With that said, he tilted his head back and downed another cup of liquor.
"Hey, it's truly bizarre. That day I clearly saw a short man with curious and strange eyes. But now he seems to have vanished into thin air. Could it be that someone took him away to make him into a human puppet?"
Shen Muhan sat by the window drinking when he overheard voices from the adjacent room where the window was also open. The wind howled eerily outside, sounding like vengeful spirits crying out in the night, sending chills down his spine. Being a martial artist, his hearing was exceptionally sharp, and he caught every word spoken from next door. Instantly, his brow furrowed as an ominous aura began to seep from him.
"I heard that the Third Prince has returned with two men—one extraordinarily handsome and the other rather plain-looking. This plain-looking fellow is also quite short and thin; could that unfamiliar face you mentioned be him?"
Another voice chimed in.
"Ah... it's someone from the Third Prince's entourage! Then we can't touch him. I wonder if that kid has good luck or if he's been captured by another tribe."
The Qi Nation was quite peculiar; they referred to themselves as one nation but were divided into many tribes. Some tribes specialized in capturing outsiders to use as human puppets for their amusement—a well-known fact throughout the Qi Nation. However, if someone protected this person, it would be an entirely different matter—even if that protector was just an ordinary citizen of Qi Nation.
However, the people of their country were born cold-blooded, and such individuals were rarely seen.
This was something that Xia Muxin likely understood deeply through the incident with the old man and woman.
Suddenly, a shadow flashed across the window, and a figure flew in through the side window.
"Ah... you..."
The two had been chatting happily, but the sudden intrusion of a stranger startled them. Just as they were about to scream, their pressure points were struck.
Shen Muhan, his face concealed, looked at the two with eyes as deep as black whirlpools, coldly stating:
"I ask, you answer. If there is even a hint of concealment, then..."
As he spoke, a chopstick flew from the table, shooting straight toward a nearby chair. In an instant, the chair shattered with a loud crack, and the chopstick had turned to wood ash.
"This will be your fate—shattered to pieces."
With a wave of his palm, Shen Muhan released the pressure points of both individuals and continued with his earlier statement.
