Ye Xiaohan suppressed the intense shock and sorrow in her heart; she didn't even have time to stop and mourn. If she hesitated for a moment, the men in black would catch up to her.
No, she couldn't be caught!
This belief echoed repeatedly in Ye Xiaohan's mind. The origins of those men in black were unknown, and being captured would undoubtedly lead to dire consequences. Moreover, someone had already sacrificed their life to save her, so she couldn't afford to be easily captured.
The men in black moved swiftly, almost closing the distance behind Ye Xiaohan in an instant. Before they could act, she took the initiative.
She quickly opened the vial of Sedative in her hand and threw it into the air. The powder dispersed widely, causing the men in black to pause momentarily.
"Everyone, watch out!"
One of the men shouted a warning to his companions. They dodged quickly, their masks preventing them from inhaling much of the powder. However, they were filled with extreme anger at Ye Xiaohan's resistance.
"You filthy woman, how dare you fight back!" After confirming that it was just ordinary Sedative without any serious harm, the men resumed their pursuit.
This time, their movements were even faster than before.
Ye Xiaohan was no match for their speed; she could only throw various powders unexpectedly to try to slow them down. In her panic, she even tossed out some Healing Ointment meant for treating injuries.
Yet despite her desperate efforts, it had little effect.
As the men in black drew closer, a faint sense of despair rose within Ye Xiaohan.
She hadn't even seen Gu Bei's face yet; she hadn't even set foot into the town. Was she really going to be taken down here in the outskirts?
It was truly unacceptable.
The sense of unwillingness drove her to run even harder amidst despair. She was unfamiliar with the terrain, only pushing forward relentlessly.
As long as she moved forward, there had to be a way to escape.
Ye Xiaohan was running blindly, gradually losing track of where she was. The men in black were still relentlessly pursuing her; she couldn't afford to stop.
She was grateful for the effort she had put into her fitness and health for weight loss. If her stamina had been even slightly weaker, she wouldn't have been able to endure for this long.
Just as the pursuers were closing in, Ye Xiaohan spotted a burly man coming toward her from ahead.
Ye Xiaohan didn't know the origins of those men in black, but judging by their ruthlessness when they killed, they would definitely not spare anyone who witnessed their crime.
"Run!" Ye Xiaohan shouted frantically at the man ahead. "Those people will kill!"
The man paused, seemingly having heard her shout. Ye Xiaohan felt a sense of relief and was about to ask him where it was safe so they could escape together when she saw him take a step forward after a brief moment of hesitation.
He was not moving in the direction Ye Xiaohan had hoped for—retreating—but rather continuing onward.
"Are you crazy? Don't go forward, run away!" Ye Xiaohan urged as she got closer to him. "Those people are assassins; they’ve already killed my companions!"
To her surprise, instead of retreating as expected, the man let out a laugh at her words. "Assassins? I want to see who kills whom!"
In Ye Xiaohan's astonished gaze, the man charged toward the men in black, gathering his strength before throwing a punch that sent the foremost assassin flying back three yards.
"!"
Not only was Ye Xiaohan stunned, but even the men in black were momentarily shocked. They exchanged glances, seemingly unable to believe what they had just witnessed.
Ye Xiaohan understood their astonishment. The martial skills of these men in black were undoubtedly top-tier; it was rare for them to encounter someone who could knock them down with a single punch in their careers.
One of the men in black glanced at his comrade on the ground, writhing in pain and moaning, but did not rush to help him. Instead, he focused directly on the seemingly powerful man before him.
"Who are you?" the man in black asked cautiously, sizing up the figure before him. Anyone capable of easily taking down one of their members should not be underestimated.
The man let out a hearty laugh and shouted, "I’m your grandfather!"
Before the man in black could react, the stranger made his move.
He was tall and robust, yet his movements were incredibly swift. In an instant, he lunged toward the man in black. Moreover, his strength was immense; any strike he delivered could inflict serious, potentially fatal injuries on his opponent.
The once ferocious men in black who had been relentlessly pursuing Ye Xiaohan were all knocked to the ground within a very short time.
The man stepped on one of the barely conscious men in black and laughed heartily, "Just a few hits and you’re lying on the ground like a dead dog. With such pathetic skills, how dare you come out here to kill? You should be ashamed!"
The man in black struggled to breathe beneath his foot. From the difficulty he exhibited while gasping for air, Ye Xiaohan could preliminarily assess that his lungs had likely been damaged.
This man seemed somewhat brutal.
Such an understanding formed in Ye Xiaohan's mind.
However, this perception was soon shattered and replaced by an even more intense realization.
The man didn't seem to genuinely want an answer from the figure in black. After asking his question, he quickly moved on to his next action.
He forcefully crushed the figure in black beneath him, laughing maniacally as he beat the life out of him with his fists and feet.
Then, he repeated the same method, killing several other figures in black in the same brutal manner.
Ye Xiaohan clearly saw that this man had a short knife strapped to his waist.
Even with a weapon at hand, he chose to kill with his bare hands, maintaining a joyful laughter throughout the gruesome process.
A psychopath!
Faced with the bloody scene before her, Ye Xiaohan felt her heart nearly stop for a moment. Her rational mind told her that she needed to escape quickly while the man was distracted and hadn’t noticed her presence.
However, her body felt as if it were weighed down by lead, rendering her unable to move.
The only comfort she found was that she was accustomed to various bloody scenes, such as patients brought in from car accidents. At that moment, she was not overwhelmed enough by the sight to vomit.
It wasn't until the man had killed all the figures in black that Ye Xiaohan silently shifted her gaze away; she absolutely did not want to witness the murder firsthand.
For someone raised in a peaceful environment, this was utterly unacceptable.
The man kicked one of the corpses on the ground and grumbled in dissatisfaction, "Damn it, too useless! I haven't even broken a sweat yet!"
"Hey, you! Woman! Who are you? What are you doing here? What's your connection to these people?"
At that moment, as Ye Xiaohan was stunned by the bloody scene, she had already missed her chance to escape.
Ye Xiaohan held her breath for a moment. This man was not much different from the black-clad pursuers; in fact, he seemed even more brutal than them.
She dared not make any sudden movements, fearing that she might provoke him and bring about even greater disaster.
"I... I came with my brother to visit relatives. We were passing through Feng City to buy some provisions and take a break when those black-clad men suddenly appeared and tried to kill us!"
Ye Xiaohan half-truthfully recounted the events to the man. "We don't know these people at all. We're newcomers and haven't offended anyone. I don't understand why they want to kill us. My poor brother..."
Her heart ached for Gu Bei, her loyal subordinate, who had fought valiantly against the black-clad men, buying her precious time and giving her a slim chance of survival.
The grief surged within her; friends she had grown familiar with had died before her eyes in an instant. Ye Xiaohan felt a sting in her nose.
Perhaps it was this genuine emotion that made the man believe her words. He scoffed and said, "In this world, who doesn't carry their head on their waist? Killing and being killed are just part of life. If you want to blame someone, blame your own weakness. Don't go crying like a baby!"
Ye Xiaohan quickly wiped away her tears, suppressing the urge to cry. This was not the time to relax; she needed to escape quickly and distance herself from this brutal killer.
"Thank you for saving me, big brother. Once I find my relatives, I will definitely repay you handsomely."
Of course, this was just a convenient lie. Unless she found herself in a jail cell at Yamen, Ye Xiaohan had no intention of ever seeing this man again in any other place.
