Liu Chancellor was deeply concerned for his daughter. Normally, he would not act so rashly, jumping to conclusions without fully understanding the situation.
This time, however, the injuries on Liu Susu had profoundly affected this father, who had always doted on her. He lost his usual composure and rigor, easily believing Liu Susu's embellished cries of distress.

Once Liu Chancellor was let in, the atmosphere became extremely tense. It felt as if the air itself had taken on a tangible weight, pressing down heavily on everyone present.
6 Yang was the first to break the oppressive silence, stating his position: “Liu Chancellor, I believe I can guess your intentions for coming here. However, before you express your anger, I hope you will listen to my explanation.”
Before leaving, Ye Xiaohan had entrusted this family to him, and he had to ensure their safety.
“You.” Liu Chancellor discreetly surveyed his surroundings while maintaining a calm expression and a relatively gentle tone.
Yet beneath this deliberate calmness lay an undeniable authority, the kind that comes from years of holding power.
Under such pressure, 6 Yang instinctively deepened his breathing: “Liu Chancellor, I do not know how Madam Gu has slandered us before the Liu Family, but I can swear here that everything she said is untrue. My family consists of ordinary citizens who never seek trouble; why would we disrespect a noblewoman? That would only invite trouble upon ourselves!”
In normal circumstances, they would avoid confrontation; who would foolishly walk into trouble?
Liu Chancellor understood his daughter's temperament better than anyone else and believed that it was usually Liu Susu who instigated conflicts. However, this time felt different.
“Then let me ask you this: where did her injuries come from? Did she injure herself just to slander you?”
The weight of Liu Chancellor's gaze fell upon 6 Yang, adding an undeniable gravity to the moment.
6 Yang stood tall and replied: “We cannot deny that we caused Madam Gu's injuries. But that was because she attempted to abduct my sister and me; we acted in self-defense! Prime Minister, which law states that those with power can invade private homes and coerce people under the sun without consequence?”
As he spoke of Liu Susu, 6 Yang found it hard to remain calm. Even though he had only lived a portion of his life so far, he could confidently say that this woman would soon rank among his top three most disliked individuals.
“…” Liu Chancellor fell silent for a moment. He couldn't help but feel that 6 Yang's composed demeanor began to cool his own anger. Moreover, seizing two children in order to vent frustration certainly seemed like something Liu Susu would do.
Upon realizing that the Liu Family had produced such a willful and reckless daughter, Liu Chancellor felt a strong sense of guilt towards his ancestors.
However, even for the sake of the Liu Family's reputation, he could not simply retreat in defeat.
"These are just your words," Liu Chancellor said. "I will not draw conclusions based solely on my daughter's claims. But I also cannot easily trust you just because you deny it."
The implication was clear: if Liu Yang wanted to clear his name, he needed to provide substantial evidence.
But where would such evidence come from? The only witnesses to the incident were either involved or were Liu Susu's subordinates, who would never come forward to testify against their own.
Seeing that Liu Yang had no response, Liu Chancellor continued, "If a member of the Liu Family has done wrong, I will not show indulgence. However, if you have harmed someone without cause, you cannot escape punishment either. I am here today to uncover the truth."
"The truth is exactly as I stated!" Liu Yang said impatiently. "I have no evidence or witnesses. The only ones present besides us were Madam Gu's servants; why would they testify for a stranger and risk offending the Liu Family and Madam Gu?"
When witnessing injustice, one must also weigh their own strength. Recklessly stepping forward would not be helping; it would be courting disaster—no one would be foolish enough to do that.
Liu Chancellor understood this reasoning all too well. However, Liu Susu was his beloved daughter. Even if she had done wrong, seeing her in tears and covered in injuries stirred his heart.
Just as the conversation seemed to reach an impasse and Liu Yang was prepared to offend the Liu Family by trying to force Liu Chancellor out, an unexpected figure appeared at the door.
"White Maiden! What brings you here?" Liu Yang exclaimed upon seeing Bai Rong'er approach gracefully, his heart racing.
Ever since Bai Rong'er had intervened to teach Liu Susu a lesson and revealed her true identity, Liu Yang had been hesitant to interact with her. He feared that any misstep might provoke her into leaving quietly without a word.
Bai Rong'er's presence at this moment was truly unexpected for Liu Yang. He began to feel anxious; if she was indeed responsible for the incident, the Liu Family would surely not let her go unpunished!
"This is none of your business; you should return to your room," Liu Yang hurriedly stepped forward to block Bai Rong'er’s path and whispered urgently, "Wait until I see off my guests before I come find you."
He stole a glance back and saw that Liu Chancellor's expression shifted to one of shock upon seeing Bai Rong'er. Although it was fleeting, Liu Yang noticed it clearly—there was no mistaking it.
Yet Bai Rong'er paid no mind to those present and walked straight in, taking a seat on a stool as if she belonged there.
After revealing her identity, her demeanor had not changed much at all. If he hadn’t witnessed her actions firsthand, Liu Yang might have doubted that she was truly capable of such feats.
Liu Yang tried to remain calm and unobtrusively positioned himself in front of Bai Rong'er to block Liu Chancellor's line of sight. "My lord, this young lady is merely staying at my home temporarily; she has nothing to do with these matters. I will take her away now; please forgive me!"
As the sun began to set, Liu Yang prepared to persuade Bai Rong'er. However, to his surprise, Liu Chancellor spoke up.
"There is no need for that; this time, it is I who has disturbed you all," Liu Chancellor said. "I have already heard the entire story and all misunderstandings have been resolved. My daughter has acted willfully and caused you much trouble. I will return and discipline her properly, ensuring she understands her faults."
Liu Yang was taken aback, not expecting Liu Chancellor to suddenly change his attitude. He had thought that no matter what happened, even if Liu Susu was in the wrong, the Liu Family would still seek some compensation.
Liu Chancellor cupped his hands in a gesture of respect and continued, "My daughter has troubled you all. I will send an apology gift in the coming days, and I hope you will accept it without holding any grudges."
"There is no need for gifts!" Liu Yang quickly declined. "Your Excellency's ability to discern right from wrong and to prioritize justice over family ties is something I am deeply grateful for!"
Liu Chancellor did not respond directly but merely nodded towards them. "In that case, I shall take my leave today and visit again another day."
With that, Liu Chancellor departed without mentioning the incident involving Liu Susu again.
Liu Yang relayed every detail of the encounter to Ye Xiaohan without missing a single expression.
Furrowing his brow, Liu Yang asked, "Sister-in-law, do you think Liu Chancellor changed his attitude because of White Maiden?"
"Isn't that obvious?" Ye Xiaohan rolled her eyes. "What else could it be? Should we consider it because of some random brat popping out from nowhere?"
Liu Yang's frown deepened. "So my suspicions are not unfounded after all. Sister-in-law, what exactly is White Maiden's identity that even Liu Chancellor treats her with such deference?"
