As soon as the Shangyang Princess sat down, her journey of troublemaking began.
"Why is this table broken? How dare you let me eat on a broken table?" The Shangyang Princess pointed at the circular gap in the middle of the table and questioned loudly.
Many of the surrounding guests were regulars who were familiar with the tavern, and upon hearing the Shangyang Princess's words, they all burst into laughter.
"What are you laughing at?" Although she didn't understand the situation, her instincts told her that she was being mocked. The Shangyang Princess was displeased; she was used to being the one who laughed at others, not the other way around.
The attendant quickly stepped forward to explain, "Dear guest, you might be visiting our tavern for the first time, so you're not familiar with it." She fiddled with the table, and the circular opening revealed a neat space inside.
"Please take a look here; this is made from high-quality iron sheets. You can add charcoal inside, place a pot on top, and enjoy a steaming hot pot meal!"
The attendant demonstrated for the Shangyang Princess, who watched with great curiosity.
"I've had hot pot before, but I've never seen a pot like this," the Shangyang Princess said as she leaned over the table, almost ready to pounce on the attendant's movements.
The attendant proudly pointed at Ye Xiaohan and said, "This was personally designed by our boss; it's unique in the capital. No other place has it!"
Ye Xiaohan listened helplessly to the attendant's praise. While he appreciated it, he wished they could change the subject. Wasn't this just drawing the Shangyang Princess's attention toward him?
Sure enough, upon hearing Ye Xiaohan's name, the Shangyang Princess's expression darkened immediately as she glared at him in the direction indicated by the attendant.
Ye Xiaohan could only smile awkwardly and step forward to greet her. After all, she was a princess. Such a significant status was something he couldn't resist.
"Dear guest, do you have any further instructions? Feel free to let us know; our tavern prioritizes people and provides absolutely top-notch service!" Ye Xiaohan asked while signaling for the attendant to step back.
The Shangyang Princess was not in a grateful mood; seeing Ye Xiaohan only made her angrier.
"A mere hot pot—what's there to be proud of?" she scoffed. "I've eaten and played with things far beyond what any tavern can offer. If what you bring out doesn't suit my taste later, I'll spill it all on the floor and smash your shabby tavern!"
Such a brazen attitude clearly indicated that the person was not here to enjoy a meal, but rather to stir up trouble.
Li Yang felt a surge of anger. Running a restaurant inevitably meant encountering rude customers, but usually, such situations arose from some conflict.
But this person before him was clearly here to pick a fight.
"You can eat if you want, but if you don't like it, you can go somewhere else! There are plenty of restaurants in the capital; do you think I can't find someone to feed you?" Li Yang didn't want to initiate trouble, but he wouldn't let anyone bully him either.
Ye Xiaohan quickly stepped in to divert Li Yang's attention: "Leave this to me, okay?"
"Hmph!" Li Yang shot a glare at the Shangyang Princess but ultimately heeded Ye Xiaohan's advice and refrained from approaching further.
Since his sister-in-law had taken charge, she must have a way to handle it.
However, the Shangyang Princess was not pleased: "Look at him! What kind of attitude is that? Is this what you call quality service centered around people?"
Ye Xiaohan quickly smiled apologetically. Just then, the dishes ordered by the Two Generals and the Shangyang Princess were served. Ye Xiaohan helped arrange them and said, "Young Master, please enjoy."
The Shangyang Princess had intended to argue further, but as soon as she laid eyes on the spread of delicious food before her, she couldn't help but take the chopsticks offered by Ye Xiaohan and take a bite.
"Delicious!"
Her eyes widened in surprise: "Isn't this just shrimp? How can it be so springy? It feels like it’s still jumping in my mouth! And there's a hint of tea fragrance!"
Indeed, her foodie sister was also a foodie. Ye Xiaohan watched in disbelief as the Shangyang Princess became completely absorbed in the food, forgetting about their argument entirely. It was as if she saw the shadow of the Third Prince in her.
Truly siblings by blood; now she was curious whether they resembled the Emperor or the Queen more in this regard.
Ye Xiaohan had never met the Emperor, but she had seen the Queen. The thought of that noblewoman with sparkling eyes devouring food made her shudder and quickly dispel that terrifying imagination.
"To respond to the guest's inquiry," Ye Xiaohan introduced, "this dish is called Longjing Shrimp. It features the finest live shrimp paired with tender buds of Longjing tea, creating a delightful culinary experience. This is a southern dish, refreshing and appetizing, leaving a lasting impression!"
The Shangyang Princess picked up another piece and tasted it. After a moment, she nodded in agreement, "Indeed, it is unforgettable! The shrimp is tender, and the fragrance of the tea is unique!"
"I'm glad you like it!" Ye Xiaohan thought to herself, hoping these dishes would keep them occupied and quiet.
The Shangyang Princess was fully engrossed in savoring the food, while Ye Xiaohan happily described the names and characteristics of the dishes. Their interaction created a harmonious atmosphere.
When Murong Jing entered, he was taken aback by the scene before him for a brief moment.
"Boss Ye, what's going on here? Have you tamed this dog?" Murong Jing said bluntly as he sat down on the other side, casually signaling for another set of chopsticks to be brought over.
Ye Xiaohan felt overwhelmed; after finally managing to deal with the difficult Your Highness, now another troublemaking Prince had arrived. Did she have some kind of grudge against the royal family?
"What are you doing here?" The Shangyang Princess glared at Murong Jing, her anger flaring. This troublesome royal brother of hers not only refused to help her but also sided with others against her. She had no intention of speaking to him!
Since the last time Murong Jing had upset her, she had ignored him for several days. Initially, she thought she would forgive him if he apologized, but he never came to do so, which only fueled her anger further.
"Wait a minute, who are you calling a dog?" The Shangyang Princess finally processed Murong Jing's words and turned her attention back to him.
Murong Jing quickly ate while responding between bites, "Whoever admits it is."
"I didn't admit anything!" The Shangyang Princess wanted nothing more than to throw the plate in front of her at Murong Jing's face. However, seeing that there were still plenty of dishes left, she hesitated at the thought of wasting food.
Ye Xiaohan found their bickering amusing and felt a sense of relief watching the Shangyang Princess get flustered. If it were any other situation, she would have stayed out of it entirely; however, since they were in her restaurant, any chaos would ultimately be her loss.
"Please don't be angry; being upset won't let you enjoy the food," Ye Xiaohan quickly interjected to calm the Shangyang Princess. "Young Master, would you like to try this dessert? Taro Balls are one of our most popular sweets."
Shangyang Princess hesitated for a moment, but ultimately succumbed to the allure of the round dumpling and picked up a spoon to take a taste.
Murong Jing chimed in, "This dish is a new dessert personally crafted by Boss Ye. Even General Gu praises it highly and admires Boss Ye's culinary skills."
He raised an eyebrow, "You should really savor it. After all, with your cooking skills that can't even cut fruits evenly, you'll never be able to create a dish that would earn General Gu's endless compliments."
"You!" Shangyang Princess felt her heart sink at the thought of being rejected by Gu Bei.
Now, with Murong Jing bringing it up to mock her, especially in front of Ye Xiaohan, she felt utterly embarrassed and thought it best to leave.
"You’re insufferable! I’m going to tell Mother that you’re bullying me again!" Shangyang Princess declared with a threat that lacked any real menace, storming out of the restaurant with her maid in tow.
Ye Xiaohan watched the sibling squabble in disbelief; they were both adults yet acted more immature than students.
Previously, Murong Jing had intentionally poked at Shangyang Princess's sore spots to prevent her from harboring any false hopes and continuing to cling to Gu Bei, which would only lead to more heartache.
However, given their recent exchanges and considering Murong Jing's usual demeanor, Ye Xiaohan began to suspect that he actually enjoyed this.
It seemed he simply had a nasty streak and took pleasure in watching others get flustered.
Ye Xiaohan grumbled quietly before suddenly remembering something important: "Wait? She hasn’t paid the bill yet!"
