With Lan Feng watching from the side, Liu Susu and the Shangyang Princess could no longer discuss those topics. Liu Susu shifted slightly in her seat before taking her leave.
"That's enough. I don't need you here. Go back and attend to Mother Empress," the Shangyang Princess said, her mind preoccupied with matters of her own, eager to send Liu Susu away for her own convenience.
Lan Feng took his leave and returned to the Queen's palace.
"Well? That girl from the Liu Family isn't plotting anything she shouldn't be, is she?" the Queen asked, seated with an expression that seemed ordinary at first glance, but a keen observer would notice a glimmer in her eyes.
Lan Feng replied, "As per your instructions, I kept a close watch on Madam Gu while delivering some pastries. There were no suspicious activities observed."
"Hmph!" The Queen scoffed. "That girl from the Liu Family is not someone our foolish princess can compare to; she has many schemes! If she had no ulterior motives, why would she specifically seek out Shangyang?"
The notion of sisterly affection would surely make the Queen laugh. Only her own foolish daughter remained oblivious to people's true natures, treating the other as a sister while the latter had no such deep feelings and would only use others as pawns.
"Be more vigilant about this matter. If Liu Susu approaches Shangyang again, keep a close eye on her and ensure she doesn't do anything harmful to the princess!"
The Queen could see through Liu Susu's character; this woman definitely harbored ill intentions.
Unfortunately for the Queen, despite all her calculations, she had overlooked one crucial detail: the Shangyang Princess had already been influenced by Liu Susu and was secretly preparing to leave the palace.
Following Liu Susu's plan, the Shangyang Princess did not alert anyone in the palace. Instead, after leaving, she followed Liu Susu's introductions to find a group of idle ruffians.
Then, at the location indicated by Liu Susu, they lay in wait and effortlessly captured Ye Xiaohan.
To uncover Ye Xiaohan's weaknesses, Liu Susu had been dispatching people to monitor her every move. Everyone has moments of vulnerability, and Liu Susu seized this opportunity firmly.
When Ye Xiaohan awoke, she felt as if her body weighed three times more than usual.
She only remembered returning from settling accounts with a merchant when someone had thrown a sack over her head and knocked her unconscious on the way back.
They moved swiftly, clearly not a random group but rather individuals who had been waiting specifically for her.
Even though Ye Xiaohan couldn't see their clothing due to the speed of their approach, their coordinated movements made it evident that they were trained.
Before opening her eyes, Ye Xiaohan listened carefully. The surroundings were eerily quiet, with only her own breathing breaking the silence; there were no other presences.
Slowly, she opened her eyes and realized she was in a dimly lit room. Around her were some haystacks and various tools, suggesting it was a warehouse.
However, the tools appeared rusty, and she wondered if they were even usable.
An abandoned warehouse.
Ye Xiaohan let out a cold laugh. The only person she could think of who would deliberately come to kidnap her was Liu Susu.
This woman had failed once and was now trying again!
With her hands and feet bound, Ye Xiaohan struggled slightly but quickly realized she couldn't break free. There was no point in wasting energy. She wondered what new tricks Liu Susu had up her sleeve this time and decided to conserve her strength for whatever might come next.
A faint sound came from outside the door, followed by the creaking of the warehouse door as it swung open.
“It’s you!”
Upon seeing the visitor, Ye Xiaohan's eyes widened in surprise. She never expected that this time it would not be Liu Susu who kidnapped her; standing before her was the Shangyang Princess, someone who shouldn't be outside the palace at this hour.
The Shangyang Princess noticed Ye Xiaohan's astonished expression and felt an inexplicable sense of guilt. However, recalling the terrible things Ye Xiaohan had done as told by Liu Susu, her feelings of disgust quickly overshadowed any guilt.
“What’s wrong? You look quite surprised. Did you not expect that it would be me administering justice?” the Shangyang Princess mocked. “Or perhaps you’ve done so many bad deeds that you’ve lost count of how many enemies you have?”
Ye Xiaohan didn’t understand the Shangyang Princess’s words and assumed she was just here to provoke her. “First, let me go. We can sit down and discuss whatever it is later.”
"Don't think I'm so easy to fool. If I let you go, won't you just take the chance to run away?" The Shangyang Princess squatted in front of Ye Xiaohan, extending a finger and saying, "I'm not like you, always doing despicable things. As long as you promise me one thing, I'll let you go back."
Ye Xiaohan looked directly at the Shangyang Princess and asked, "What is it?"
The Shangyang Princess stared seriously at Ye Xiaohan and said, "You must swear here that you will never entangle yourself with General Gu again! It has to be the most binding oath; otherwise, I won't believe you!"
This princess is insane! Ye Xiaohan was almost roaring in her heart. She had clearly told her so many times to mind her own business and not interfere in others' private matters, yet she still wouldn't listen.
"What if I refuse to agree? What are you going to do?" Ye Xiaohan was somewhat annoyed. Could someone really be imprisoned over a girl's romantic feelings?
The Shangyang Princess sneered as she stood up and pointed to the warehouse door. "This is the outskirts; this warehouse has been abandoned for years. If I leave, no one will find out you're locked inside. If you don't agree, I'll just walk away. It'll get dark soon, and you'll have to spend the night in this pitch-black warehouse!"
"Oh?" Ye Xiaohan raised her head, her eyes filled with unmasked sarcasm. "You came up with such a brilliant idea? I'm truly terrified!"
The Shangyang Princess looked down at Ye Xiaohan and said, "At this critical moment, do you still want to put on an act? I won't be fooled. You have one incense stick's worth of time to consider; after that, it's too late!"
She couldn't believe that Ye Xiaohan would dare to stay alone in the outskirts at night.
As soon as the Shangyang Princess finished speaking, Ye Xiaohan immediately gave her answer.
"I won't agree to your demands. Gu Bei and I are mutually in love; no one can tear us apart!" Ye Xiaohan stated plainly this time, "Even if you're a princess, does that mean you can use your status to separate lovers?"
Since the Shangyang Princess didn't understand gentle explanations, Ye Xiaohan didn't mind using a language that the princess could comprehend.
"Why do you insist on breaking me and Gu Bei apart? Is it really just because you think I'm not worthy of him?" Ye Xiaohan fixed her piercing gaze on the Shangyang Princess. "Or are you just pretending to care about Gu Bei while secretly wanting me out of the picture, thinking that way he would notice you?"
The series of questions left the Shangyang Princess unable to refute her. Even if the princess genuinely cared for Gu Bei, she couldn't deny Ye Xiaohan's words because while she could deceive others, she couldn't deceive herself; she indeed thought that way.
Once Ye Xiaohan was gone, Gu Bei would surely come back around. Who else would be more suitable by his side than her?
Shangyang Princess was filled with a mix of emotions—anger and frustration—yet she couldn't retort with confidence. Her face flushed red as she pointed at Ye Xiaohan, speechless for a moment.
"Fine! You're impressive! You can talk your way out of anything, but I won't be outdone!" Shangyang Princess exclaimed, tossing her sleeve in annoyance. "Since you're so clever, why don't you find a way to escape yourself?"
With that, she stormed out, slamming the door behind her.
The door shook violently before it finally closed again.
The warehouse had long been abandoned, its condition dilapidated. Directly across from her was a large hole in the roof, through which the outside sky could be seen.
As Ye Xiaohan searched for a way to escape, he occasionally glanced toward the hole, noticing that the light was gradually dimming.
Not long after Shangyang Princess left, the warehouse door swung open once more.
"Well, well, look who it is!" Liu Susu strutted in from outside, wearing an expression of smugness and disdain. She approached Ye Xiaohan and said, "Isn't this the beloved Boss Ye? What brings you to this desolate place today? Enjoying the scenery?"
Ye Xiaohan felt no surprise upon seeing Liu Susu enter; he had known that any misfortune would inevitably involve her.
"Did you instigate Shangyang Princess to kidnap me?" Ye Xiaohan asked, bound and half-sitting on the ground, yet his demeanor remained composed.
This calmness ignited a fire within Liu Susu. She raised her hand and slapped Ye Xiaohan hard across the face.
