"Should have shut up long ago!" Qing Luan mocked, then turned to walk into the room. "Sister Linglong, are you feeling any better?"
"I just had the ginger porridge you made, and it warmed my heart. I'm feeling much better," Hu Linglong said gently as she sat up against the headboard. She was fully aware of everything happening outside and truly didn't know how to express her gratitude to Qing Luan.
"In that case, you should eat more," Qing Luan said with a smile, completely ignoring the two people standing there.
"How did you make it?" Like Qing Luan, Hu Linglong also ignored her man and the maid, as if only she and Qing Luan existed in that moment, her expression much more relaxed.
"Well...," Qing Luan thought for a moment before explaining, "You were feeling down and had postpartum issues, so I washed fresh ginger and sliced it. Then I strung it together with some twine, washed and dried the rice, and roasted it in a big pot. This way, the ginger's flavor and moisture infuse into the rice, making it yellow and fragrant."
"What are the benefits of that?" Although she felt comfortable, she found it puzzling to eat, so she was a bit curious.
"Ginger helps with digestion and stops vomiting, among other benefits. Brown sugar replenishes blood. You haven't received proper care since giving birth, so combining these two is best for you," Qing Luan explained in terms Hu Linglong could understand. She didn't mention anti-inflammatory or antibacterial properties; as long as Hu Linglong got better, any effects were good.
"You know about these things?" Hu Linglong was surprised.
"I only know a little," Qing Luan replied modestly with a light smile.
"What do you think you are?" Xiu'er couldn't hold back any longer and waved her hand as if to strike. "A mere girl here boasting! Sister, don't let someone like this deceive you."
"If you dare to hit her, I'll have your hand chopped off immediately," Hu Linglong said sharply, her piercing gaze fixed on Xiu'er as each word dripped from her lips.
Xiu'er and Wei Scholar exchanged glances after hearing her words; their expressions changed. Xiu'er spoke up first, "Sister, it's not that I want to stand out; it's just that this girl is too rude. Once you leave, Rui'er will be my responsibility. I can't allow someone like this to act recklessly!" There was an implicit threat in her words.
Hearing such words, the old Hu Linglong would have felt heartbroken and tormented. However, after experiencing death, she seemed like a different person. The past weakness and tears had long disappeared, replaced by a strong and brave mother.
"This is the Hu Family," Hu Linglong said, lying down yet unable to hide her innate nobility. Every smile and frown was filled with charm. "Whoever I allow to be reckless can be reckless!"
"Linglong Sister," Qing Luan feigned ignorance and asked, "Hu Ye said that only you siblings are in the Hu Family. How could she call you sister? Am I mistaken?" Such a person wouldn’t even know how to die.
As soon as Qing Luan's words fell, Wei Scholar and Xiu'er changed their expressions, while Hu Linglong merely smiled coldly, her thoughts inscrutable.
"Linglong," Wei Scholar finally spoke after being pinched painfully by Xiu'er. He gazed deeply at Hu Linglong and said, "We were once husband and wife. You are gravely ill now; once you are gone, Rui'er will be pitiful. A child without a mother is already heartbreaking. With Xiu'er around, you should feel at ease. And since she calls you sister, you've acknowledged her identity, haven't you?"
"Haha..." Qing Luan couldn't contain her laughter upon hearing his words, laughing so hard that tears streamed down her face.
Everyone looked on in confusion, but Wei Scholar's expression changed from red to pale, his eyes flashing with murderous intent.
"Young Master Wei, what do you think you are?" Qing Luan tilted her head mockingly and asked.
"I am a Scholar," Wei Scholar replied, immediately feeling pricked like a needle all over his body as he answered with pride, "It is through my hard work that I achieved this!"
"Scholar?" Qing Luan murmured softly before lowering her head to play with her fingers and casually asked, "Heh heh, even if you are a Scholar, do you really need to crush your legally wedded wife under the weight of a maid? Is it possible that a lowly servant is worthy of you? Has the esteemed Miss of the Hu Family tarnished your Scholar status?"
